I thought this seemed familiar. I have heard two other stories with Ethan Carlyle narrated. He is a lapsed Paladin. So far, I don't think the author has mentioned how or why he lapsed, but it must have been something extreme given the power Meg gets. She even gets the Archangel Michael's sword.

Sounds like this guy made a pact w a greater deity, as in warlock pact and that deity renounced the pact breaking it on their end. That would enpower the bejesus out of that type of fury. Cosmic breaking power as she seeks to kill a greater god. The power vacuum would destroy everything. Im willing to bet he loved a god and this goddess turned away from him and scorned as he was, the goddess broke the warlock pact. She has to be one of the top 5. If it would destroy reality with the retribution that the fury would cast upon them. Cant make power moves like that and have a normal next day. Ethan forgave and thats why he stopped the fury? His heartbreak is his and no one else’s and he bears it silently. - forbidden love like that would be something to behold and especially if it went against the natural laws of gods/mortals. Idk. Am i right? *Seems that the power for the fury to cast retribution would shatter everything as she fulfilled her purpose, and his. Thrice naming a true name kept her at bay as to not follow it? She used the powerup to kill the pan flute and he stopped the fury before it could seek the real enemy?

If I had to guess, it was the most important oath a human can ever swear. A Marriage oath. And even if it was broken some love remains. I would also guess the other was not a mortal but one of significant importance in the pantheon of Gods. And that sort of justice will cause a great deal of pain to others if enacted. Humans are a messy bunch, we are capable of feeling more than one emotion about someone or something at a time.

BACK ROUND: Ethan the protagonist investigate/solves paranormal disappearances and the like. HE had a contract with one being that made him a Paladin. This oath, whatever it was, was broken by the other party and not him. THE STORY: This episode shows him trying to get back a client's husband who was being controlled by a fury.The client's husband had a reason for revenge hence the fury. The person he wanted revenge on had a dangerous artifact and the fury wanted to use Ethan to get it back. Ethan didn't want to give the fury that much power (suggesting the broken oath was a very strong one). he agreed to help conditionally and after the artifact is retrieved, Ethan gets the client's husband back safely while flirting [?] with said fury.

@@andrewgause6971 Read the Hebrew Bible some time, it was the Jewish people who broke the covenant(nothing against Jews, thats just human nature). They couldn't even keep the covenant while God was writing the covenant down. It was kinda like someone cheating on their spouse while the spouse is saying their wedding vows.
