You "unfolded" the quantum dimensions of hydrogen atoms just to make them easier to work with!? *Human:* Yup. When they needed help, he came. In their darkest hour, he came. Humans have short lives, but long memories. A slight may be forgiven, but never forgotten. A kindness may go uncommented, but never unnoted. The crimes of humans gone five thousand years are yet begrudged, the insults of humans gone centuries are yet avenged. And the debts of people whose names are lost are yet honored. When they needed help, he came. Did he think such a debt would ever be forgotten and left unpaid in kind? When they needed help, he came. And when he needed help. When his darkest hour was nigh. The debts of a generation long gone, unpaid but not unremembered, called. When he needed help. When it was his darkest hour. They came.

Gavtin and Vintal joined the other guards at the lift all together there was 20 of them rifles at the ready the lifts doors opened they all fired there weapons in to the lift till they were empty and then a figure streaked out of the lift straight at them Gavtin fumbeled his chargepack dropping it looked up at the blur rushing at him and dove to his left slaming in to Vintal with enough force to send them both down a flight of steeps. Gavtin. Vin Vintal are you ok i think we my have been knocked out from the fall. Vintal. Yes i am ok the emrgency lights are still on lets see if the others stopped it or not. At the top of the stairs the hall was a sceen from a monster movie body parts and blaster holes every where and a hole that lead to the hanger bay that was missing a ship. Gavtin. First tale: I doubt a scattered species, could unite in time to be effective. Second tale : Fusion is a pipe dream. Like solar power, it is expensive as hell and inefficient. Exotic materials, precision mirrors, special lasers, billions wasted all to heat water. Commercially it is not viable, even if the damned thing works in this generation. I suspect you need to duplicate the conditions in a start to even start the reaction. We simply do not have the knowledge, to make it happen , nor to make it pay. Also, can we find something else to base our civilisation on ? Steam is getting old.
@TheAchilles262 жыл бұрын
Steam might be old, but nuclear fission power is vastly more efficient than anything else we've discovered so far. Spears were dominant military technology for literally 10s of thousands of years, steam has only been a power source for a couple centuries.
@TheMariusDarkwolf2 жыл бұрын
The part that's seriously stupid, it'll still primarily be used to make steam. We legit don't have a way to capture the radiated electrons to benefit directly. Same reason Fission is used to heat water, just like coal and gas. Hell even Geo-Electric is the same way. Use the radiated heat to convert water to steam and waste actual petawatts of other radiated power.
@TheMonkey7472 жыл бұрын
Steam is also clean and can be used in a closed loop system, useful for spaceships.

Hey! I'm the author of that first story. I did think about that, but I do not think they couldn't have united. Diaspora's often hold close contacts via many organisations. Those would work as decentralized cells from which a bigger army could be constructed. This would of course still be messy, as is illustrated in the story, but it is certainly not impossible! (I think)
