Smaller holidays could fill us with hatred. Christmas, the day of joy would fill them with horror. Attacking on armistice day? That's how you get every Terran to want to put a boot through you seven generations back.

Our holidays aren't only simple days of celebration. Each of them has an important significance to the culture that made it. Sometimes it's over something relatively mundane, and sometimes over the death of an ancient hero or an unknown number of deceased soldiers, ora religious figure. Sometimes it'll get you a frown, sometimes it'll get you punched, sometimes it'll get you a lecture...this time it got them a lesson they WILL NOT forget.

Exactly the holiday it sounds like the Dni fucked around and found out about, Armistice Day. The red poppy and the elevens give it away. The 11th day of the 11th month. Fun fact, it's also where the expression "at the eleventh hour" comes from, for the guns fell silent across Europe at 11 AM. We Americans call it "Veterans' Day"

The only days I could see as getting that level of reaction, would be June 6th(D-day), September 11th(Nine/Eleven) and finally Christmas/equivalents. Attacking us on a day meant to remember the fallen soldiers of WW1, ya that will get everybody mad. Humans may be willing to forgive, but we try to never forget.

@@labella9291 The phrase "In America, it's Veteran's Day... But still the same. " could of meant either the same day or the same type of meaning/celebration. There is where the confusion sets in. And no they are not the same in meaning. While they both occur on the same day, they don't "honor" the same sentiments. From what I understand, Remembrance day is a day to remember all those who died in WWI. Veteran's day in the US is a day to honor all those who have served, be they living or dead. That Remembrance Day is about honoring those that died is where it gets tied to Memorial Day, as it's also about honoring those that died.The US day to exclusively remember those that died is Memorial Day, but it's not limited to WWI.

We can add this poem from the same war. I have a rendezvous with Death At some disputed barricade, When Spring comes back with rustling shade And apple-blossoms fill the air- I have a rendezvous with Death When Spring brings back blue days and fair. It may be he shall take my hand And lead me into his dark land And close my eyes and quench my breath- It may be I shall pass him still. I have a rendezvous with Death On some scarred slope of battered hill, When Spring comes round again this year And the first meadow-flowers appear. God knows 'twere better to be deep Pillowed in silk and scented down, Where Love throbs out in blissful sleep, Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath, Where hushed awakenings are dear ... But I've a rendezvous with Death At midnight in some flaming town, When Spring trips north again this year, And I to my pledged word am true, I shall not fail that rendezvous.

We Terrans are not a warrior race... That does not mean that we are unfamiliar with war. To the contrary in fact, we are bathed in it. That is exactly what makes us a warrior race. It is in our very nature to seek war. Not for the sake of conquest. But to defend that which is important to us. In fact, repeatedly ignoring our own urges to do so will ruin our mental health unless we have some other form of venting.

@Skibidoop uhm, no. I'm brazilian, and though a good portion of us (at least, those who know about it, since it isn't taught on school for God knows why) respect the Pracinhas, the brazilian soldiers who fought in WWII, we don't have a remembrance day here; in fact I was only aware that this holiday existed in some countries after I started learning english. I still don't know even which day of the year it is, tbh. And, please, don't be too offended, we don't even take most our national holidays of historical significance seriously; I think the only one that people are aware, and that there's some sort of celebration is our independence day; which we have military parades in some capitals, but for most people is just a day off. So no, not all countries have a day to honour those who fought in it's wars, for their people, unfortunately. While I think it's noble of you guys to have a day to honour those who fought in battle, not all countries do the same; I can't answer you why, I don't understand it, but I know things are like that here, history is often forgotten.

Mankind and canine have been intertwined since the dawn of civilization as it is. Dogs may as well be considered our companion race. The species sharing Earth and dependent on humans for survival and stability as much as we are dependent on them for sake of loneliness, comfort and dignity of our sanity. We made them, changed them from their original appearance for mutual survival on a deathworld of prehistoric earth. We cherished animal companions so much we made and dedicated a special day just for them. Those wretches of aliens attacked us on a most blessed day of history, cooperation, and survival. No wonder you pissed off humanity so much. We humans look at canines and dogs like our own children in some respects. Humans can look at a dead person and feel not as much emotion but if we look at a dead dog we look at a dog that’s been butchered on a day that they should be celebrated, I can’t imagine the sheer hatred, blinded rage and cruelty unleashed in such a species. It's great that it's universally acknowledged but it'd be even better if instead of 'Poppy day' it was:- "Armistice Day" Or Remembrance Day. Thanks for the impeccable narration. 👍

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy? Selling poppies in town today. The poppies, child, are flowers of love. For the men who marched away. But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy? Why not a beautiful rose? Because my child, men fought and died In the fields where the poppies grow. But why are the poppies so red, Mummy? Why are the poppies so red? Red is the colour of blood, my child. The blood that our soldiers shed. The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy. Why does it have to be black? Black, my child, is the symbol of grief. For the men who never came back. But why, Mummy are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain. My tears are my fears for you my child. For the world is forgetting again.

Since most of Agro's videos are just text based, with nothing to actually watch, I frequently just listen to the vids on bluetooth audio in my car while driving back and forth to work.

As an American, we don't put the same importance on the First World War as the Second. And, while Armistice day is remembered here, it is as "Veterans Day:" a day of honor and remembrance for all veterans past and present. That said, the (US) American people have a history of responding to any attack on our home soil with fanatical zeal. I imagine that the very fact Earth was struck would be enough to get us to shift to war footing and support any outrage. We may not be the industrial giant we were, but we definitely know how to mobilize a fresh force with rapid speed.
@vicroc4
@vicroc4 Жыл бұрын
It wouldn't take much to rally the US to the cause, sure. But there's a lot of our boys and girls in uniform that would have to be actively held back until a proper plan could be made. Not to mention a lot of those who had previously served, who might or might not wait for the DoD to accept them back on active duty before doing something.
@vicroc4
@vicroc4 Жыл бұрын
November 11 may not hold the same significance to the US as it does to those countries of the Commonwealth, but you can be sure that our military would see an attack happening on our Veterans' Day as just as much of an affront. The Dni done fucked up, royally.

@@CEBph5997 Eeeh... more like all of the Anglosphere. So, a good chunk of the world's military assets (~33% at last census), but not even close to a majority of the world's population (only 6%, if the wiki article on the Anglosphere is credible). Thus, most of the world does not celebrate 'Remembrance Day', though there typically are national analogues - but usually not on that date.
@DarkVeghetta
@DarkVeghetta 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware, it's only the Anglosphere and a few European nations that celebrate Remembrance Day/Poppy Day or a similar holiday at that date. There are national analogues, but I'd wager few on the same date and, importantly, likely not with the same cultural gravitas that it holds for the US/UK/FR, for example. Thus, the Dni are probably getting their asses kicked by *only 6-ish percent of humanity* (that's the extent of the Anglosphere, as a percent of world population as per wiki data).

Remembrance Day (Poppy Day and Armistice/Veterans Day in the US) is observed by Commonwealth and other countries on November 11 to honour those lost in WW1. It is the day featured in this story. Memorial Day is a US national holiday observed on the last Monday of May to honour those who died while serving in the US armed forces. Bit like Australia and NZ's ANZAC Day.
