Not anymore Jim, not anymore. England is a fraction of what it once was, there's no reason to be patriotic. What do I have to be patriotic about? Our collapsing NHS? Our failing government? Yeldur i agree that our country has many things that must be worked on. I believe the NHS is failing due to our government purposely cutting their fundings so they can use it as a reason why privatising would be a better alternative (which will never happen) we have rich history, and currently we are a shadow of our former self, but i believe that we will better ourselves, we always have done in the past. After this pandemic, support for the NHS will be better than ever, and our politicians will help support the NHS (not because they are kind people but because they know the popularity will help them get re elected). I genuinely think that our country will drastically improve after this pandemic.
@Yeldur4 жыл бұрын
@@cianbrennan3620 Unfortunately, we've already seen the opposite happen, in the direct center of the pandemic. Unsurprisingly, it was the Conversative Party leading the charge with pretty much every single one of them voting against protecting our NHS: www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/full-list-of-mps-who-voted-against-the-nhs-being-protected-from-foreign-control-in-brexit-trade-deals/21/07/ - Things will only change when the tories who seek to destroy our country are ejected from government. Until then we'll keep driving into a brick wall at every turn. The saddest part is that we've got another 5 years of them destroying our country.

I'm an American guy and I'm from Ogden, Utah, I really love the history of the English people including the culture which is very interesting to me and as an American who has English heritage I will be proud of that, My great-grandparents immigrated to America in the Virginia colony from Lanchashire and Essex, England around the 17th century between the 1600s and most of my English great-grandfathers were from the era of American revolutionary soldiers who fought as continental army and patriot troops in the American revolution against the British, in the American Civil War when some of my great-grandfathers fought on the northern side of the Union and some on the southern side of the Confederacy, most of the troops in the American Civil War at that time were of English descent, until its peak in World War 1 where there were more American soldiers who were then sent to Europe to fight against the German, 80% of 100% were probably of English descent on average and played a major role in the French Argonne Forest in the battle against German troops and the fourth from my great-grandfather, one of whom came from an English lineage original from Texas, Arkansas, Utah and Montana.

24th of May, when I was a small child in England this was called Empire Day . We would dance around the Maypole and have a parade. Then came September 1939 , and we were fitted for our gas masks which we carried in a cardboard box. But soon people started to knit covers and embroidered them. almost a fashion statement. We went through The rationing, oh for some chocolate!! We huddled in our homes when the bombers went over, and the houses shook when the bombs were dropped, my dad always seemed to know when it was one of ours (planes) or one of theirs. So very long ago . Love the patriotic English hymns and songs, it’s a wonderful country.

On a truly dark day for Britain, the truest patriots of the nation return to hear this song. This song that promises a stout heart in the face of trial and opposition. No Matter the cost or price. Today the nation, and world, laments the passing of a devout servant of the crown. A woman who vowed to serve this nation to her dying breath. And that she did so. Queen Elizabeth II. Rest now O faithful Queen. Your reign is done. Your duty fulfilled without fault. The torch passes to the next servant of the relm. The Queen is dead. Long live the King!

@@the0nlycmac To be honest the Entente ("Allied") cause in WWI was in no way valiant or good as it was in WWII. It was simply another war about some diplomatic issue in the balkans, that swiftly escalated into a war between major powers. If anything, the war was an accident, but inevitable. The Agadir Crisis nearly sparked WWI, earlier in the 1910's. Some may argue that a Central Powers victory would be better for world history. Hitler would likely remain docile, the Soviets would never rise to power as the Germans would swiftly intervene in the east. Mao wouldn't either, because there wouldn't be any Soviets to back him up. The "Kaiserreich" scenario is unrealistic as well. So don't expect a WWII at all. Austria Hungary would likely become Hungarian dominated and would collapse in the later decades into similar countries we saw before WWII (no Yugoslavia, though). Ottomans would've collapsed no matter what. Germany, on the other hand, would end up forced to liberalize in the coming decades as Wilhelm II declines in health. In the 60's they will decolonize.

Below are the words Elizabeth spoke when she visited her troops in the field as they prepared for battle, during the nine-day onslaught by the Spanish Armada. My loving people, we have been persuaded by some, that are careful of our safety, to take heed how we commit ourselves to armed multitudes, for fear of treachery; but I assure you, I do not desire to live to distrust my faithful and loving people. Let tyrants fear; I have always so behaved myself that, under God, I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and good will of my subjects. And therefore I am come amongst you at this time, not as for my recreation or sport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live or die amongst you all; to lay down, for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honour and my blood, even the dust. I know I have but the body of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart of a king, and of a king of England, too; and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realms: to which, rather than any dishonour should grow by me, I myself will take up arms; I myself will be your general, judge, and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field. I know already, by your forwardness, that you have deserved rewards and crowns; and we do assure you, on the word of a prince, they shall be duly paid you. In the mean my lieutenant general shall be in my stead, than whom never prince commanded a more noble and worthy subject; not doubting by your obedience to my general, by your concord in the camp, and by your valour in the field, we shall shortly have a famous victory over the enemies of my God, of my kingdom, and of my people. Queen Elizabeth I - 1588 Following the defeat of the Spanish Armada, Britain became the dominant world power and remained so for centuries.

Jonathan Torres The Romans to their time were far more important and dominant than the British were to theirs. Their legacy is more important even today than the British. Yes, the British held a tenuous hold over a large territory for a brief time but they never had the military dominance the Romans did and certainly not the cultural dominance. Nor did they hold sway for a long period of time like Rome did.

Yes. Unfortunately, our pedestrian paen to the ruling monarch remains in place. The best National Anthems are those praising the nation. Having said that: Gustav Holst was furious when told that the Jupiter tone-poem from his The Planets suite, was to be used for a National Hymn. Holst's idea was that this piece of music was meant to represent world-wide goals - not narrow nationalistic ideals. But the Establishment had their way, and it became a beautiful piece of patriotic music.

She embodied this song with her vow to devote her whole life, whether it be long or short, to the service of her country. As an American, I adore this song as it’s patriotism can be felt. Our politicians could learn a thing or two from reading and believing these lyrics.

Your sentiment is heartfelt, but the song was originally written in the 1800’s then revised for a patriotic boost for the British troops in WW1, although the song was played at Churchill’s funeral. When I listen to this song it puts a lump in my throat and makes me proud to be British 🇬🇧

I am a proud American and veteran of the United States Army. While I love my country and many patriotic songs, I am so jealous that you have such a beautiful song as one of your patriotic songs. It has a beautiful melody and simple lyrics about love of God and country. I had the pleasure of meeting some British Army soldiers at my battalion commander's change-of-command ceremony in West Germany. They were members of a British Army signal unit and I'd grown to love being in their company and talking with them and I wished we had met more often than that just one time. This should be the national anthem of Britain but keep God Save the Queen for Her Majesty.

It is no empire nowadays. The kongdom becomes poorer. The star of UK is fading away. Exploration - you mentiioned.. What about hispanic, portugese explorers? Colonailism was very bad and it is shame for western countries. Examples of South Korea, Japan, Poland and others countries proves that country can develop without colonialism.
