I need to relearn this and then just commit this to muscle memory once and for all. I remember hearing it for the first time my senior year of high school from y guitar teacher. It blew me away! Then in college, I asked my college professor if he knew "La Catedral". He didn't know what that was. A couple of years later, HE PLAYS IT! I said, "THAT's the piece!". He didn't know what I was talking about. Also, he knew the piece as "The Cathedral". I learned all 3 movements, Years later, I became a guitar teacher and had the opportunity to work back at the same store I took lessons from and my teacher was still teaching there. We were actually collegues! Sometimes, we had a break at the same time, I'd ask him if he could show me something. MAN! I felt like a 17 year old kid again. Even with my "BA in Music", he whooped my ass. He was still the master. I also played this for me him and he told me I was playing it wrong. I was like, WHAT?!" I played what was in the score. Well the score was wrong. Correct notes, wrong position. Another lesson. Anyway, I played it the way he showed me, (which was what you see in this video) and it flowed so much better. A few years later, my teacher passed away. All f his former students went to his memorial and then wen to his house. It became a celebration of his life with good food, stories, and we all played music for each other. I played "La Catedral" and "Differencias De Guardame Las Vacas".

I think La Catedral is the most impressive piece I've ever seen performed on this channel - Got DAYUM~ I appreciate the way Sky Guitar approaches how to play the guitar. I'm a visual learner and observing how and where you place your hands for smooth and quick chord changes that classical guitar requires helps out a lot. A lot of other channels rarely ever play the piece in its entirety before they teach you and usually talk wayyy too much every measure I don't have the patience for that lol. Great job!

Agreed. Next I’m wishing for Bach’s Chaconne for violin arranged for classical guitar.

I loved learning this no. 3 & no. 1 in the past. No. 1 was all about control & very subtle, no. 3 was very stamina demanding. Had to build it up over time. No. 2 I never had the music to learn it over the years. Will enjoy learning no. 2 & the other two pieces again. Loved learning villa lobos studies & pieces by jorge morel also. Truly beautiful music for guitar. Well executed & beautifully played as always. A true gift to us guitarists out there. Many pieces have inspired me over the years & these are among the ones I loved

@SkyGuitar Immense thanks for the tab and the video, I have after a month of consistent practice got this to a good level. Could not be happier as this was one of my lifetime pieces since I was a teenager. However, I have noticed that in all other arrangements/performances of this piece the section from 0:56-1:21 is repeated (although with a slight variation) before repeating the main melody/beginning section of the piece. Is there a particular reason for this change - or simply you felt it led better into the following sections. Many thanks Mikhail

Agustín Barrios Mangoré was a Paraguayan guitar player who didn't receive his due recognition in life. Segovia in particular a jerk to him. Like many South American folks, at some point he reconnected to his native roots, dressed in traditional attire and changed his name to Nigusta (Agustín spelled backwards sorta) and died poor, if I remember correctly. Al Dimeola has a beautiful version of this song (for two guitars and accordion) which he named "La Cathedral". It is simply epic and my favorite classical guitar piece.

On a gloomy afternoon in the small town of San Juan Bautista, Paraguay, Agustín Barrios Mangoré was preparing to embark on his first international tour as a prominent classical guitarist. The chords of his guitar echoed in the modest house where he had grown up, while his mother, her eyes blurred with tears, watched him in silence. Between broken whispers, she gave him her blessing and begged him to return one day, because she couldn't bear the idea of leaving this world without embracing him again. Years later, far from his homeland, Agustín received the devastating news that his mother had died. A deep pain took hold of his heart, and a dense fog of sadness enveloped him, plunging him into a dark depression. He spent entire nights awake, with the guitar in his hands, seeking solace in its notes. It was in the midst of that deep melancholy that inspiration visited him with overwhelming force. Augustine sat in front of the blank paper and let his emotions flow through his fingers, creating a musical masterpiece that would be his last tribute to his holy mother: 'The Cathedral'. Every chord, every melody of that unique piece resonated with the heaviness of his grief, with the weight of absence and lament. In the delicate passages you could hear the soft murmur of a beloved mother, while in the most intense moments, the guitar became serious and deep, like the sound of a cajon that accompanies the last goodbye. Thus was born 'The Cathedral', a classical guitar funeral march that transcended time and space, carrying with it the eternal love of a son for his mother. In every note, in every silence, Agustín Barrios Mangoré found comfort and redemption, paying a sincere tribute to the woman who had given him life and the gift of music. And in every performance of this moving work, his mother would live forever in every chord, in every sigh of the guitar.

I wondered if I would be able to play such a complex song some day. Since then, I have practiced many hours a day until now, that I have finally learnt it alright (hopefully). However, I'm not sure if I play it correctly, since I'm (almost) a beginner in classical guitar, so I would appreciate if some of you can give me a bit of feedback.
