The ironic thing is that Saltspring is one of the wealthiest places in Canada. That wealth is mostly from logging and fishing the surrounding islands. Those protesters are living off the money their parents made clear cutting forests and overfishing. Look at a satellite map of the gulf islands.

@@mang0donald874 It's an expensive place to live, the lots the houses are not cheap. The hippie nature, bran muffin brigade thing is false, a majority of home owners on this island are from the Lower Mainland, Toronto and the US. Like most of the islands, including close to Vancouver Bowen are expensive. BC made its wealth from resources. Trees do grow back and selective logging on a smaller area such as these islands is the way to go, the thing is you need big machines, trucks and labor. I'd love to live on Saltspring, it's a dream but it's out of reach because everyone want the same thing. Supply and demand = higher valuations.

Maybe that's true, but clear-cut ting the Gulf Islands, especially in the South, is off the table for me.
