I recently could not complete a FII level 1 course because could not equalize upside down with the Valsava technique. I had to turn, head up and really force the air. By the time I got around 10 meters I was all stressed out and basically out of air from the massive exertion to equalize. It was terrible. I could easily do a static apnea of 3 minutes, so I knew I had the capacity to go well beyond only 10 meters. So, now I am teaching myself the Frenzel and happy to see that I am not alone in being unable to equalize upside down with the Valsava.

This is the best video and instruction I've seen on Frenzel. I want to thank you very much for this. Very very pedagogical. I will contact you through your website, I've have a few issues with my equalization and tear canals. Thank you again, and I'm looking forward to more instructional videos.
@yordanlilov3 жыл бұрын
Agree - it is a good video! And while watching I realized that air is going out of my left eye: is that what happened with your tear canals? If so, how did you solve that? Closing eye works for me, but are there any other solutions?
@Juxtapox3 жыл бұрын
@@yordanlilov Yes, air is going out from both my tear canals. I've been to many doctors and they can't do anything. Closing my eyes works somewhat, but that takes effort and I can lose focus when diving. No other solutions unfortunately.

I really enjoyed your Frenzel explanation and I think I might get the hang of it. Someone mentioned to me that you pronounce an hard "G" sound as you're performing the Frenzel maneuver. Others say a "K" sound. Whenever I do that I feel tense in my abdomen, which makes me think I'm just doing Valsalva. In any case, you've given the best explanation with a great sense of humor and I'm optimistic that I might finally learn this damn thing.

OMG, Aharon,THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I was getting mad and frustrated for another couple of weeks after watching your video. I did learned the tongue block and how to use the tongue as a piston. Looking into the mirror helped SOOOO MUCH... But for whatever reason, I just wasn't getting it. All of a sudden, OUT OF NOWHERE, I got it... I'm so stoked!!! Just absolutely unexpectedly, I got it!!! I need to practice this in the ocean now!!! I was not able to equalize head down throughout my FII level 1 course, I had to have 2 make up beach dives. And I ended up, diving head down, stop, position my body horizontally, head up, equalize valsava, then dive again until I feel pressure in the ear, then repeat the process. I was only able to reach a depth of 30'. I'm so excited and look forward to practicing this in the ocean.

Aharon, tks a lot to put this video, I had never ever seen a video about Frenzel tecnics with large explanation, rich in details. 35 years of practing scuba diving maybe avoid me to understand the right way to equalize. Since switch my desire to freediving, I've been figured out the best ways to control and higher the breath, 3,5 minutes in static and increasing. But the snages change when we are acting and you provide me a hint of some problems I had. I'm waiting restless the second video. Great Aharon

i saw and heard many people teaching frenzel, it always seemed like rocket science and couldn't wrap my head around it until i saw this video and thanks to you I can dive now because as you said valsalva just doesn't work for freediving and it didn't even work for scuba for me so frenzel was the way for me to dive at all. thanks so much Mr. Solomons I love your raw way of explaining, it's so effective :D

Thank you for this very instructive video! I think I managed to learn frenzel from your video, at least on dry land. Still have to carefully try it in water. I just did a freediver course here in Sweden, but only used the common vasalva maneuver that I alreday learned as teenager diving in lakes back in the 70's. The frenzel was not tought in the course. At the course, I had some difficulties equalizing at depth no more than about 10 meters using vasalva, diving by pulling down a rope.
