For me Alif was a work of art. The story didn’t drag or disappoint. Got hooked to Pakistani drama because of Alif. I am sure Pk has loads of dramas that are truly a ‘work of art’!

Uff what a delight to watch Amna and Mahwish discussing Adab. Such an important conversation in this day and age where the world has practically become devoid of culture. Theatre, art, museums, ghazal programs, dance music and poetry recitals, ballet performances, books, books, and actual books - not digital ones!! The fragrance of the paper from old books is something else. And comics are part of the nostalgia associated with my childhood. How beautifully Mahwish recited that poem - incidentally my all time favorite from Amjad Islam Amjad. Strangely, I too was in grade 9 or 10 when I came across this nazm (actually watched Amjad saheb narrate it himself) and have written/recited it on several occasions. We even have the same taste, Mahwish - missed seeing you here in Toronto. Much love to both you beautiful ladies. 🩷🩷

Raqeeb sae was good and watching Dastaan was a surreal experience of my mom’s childhood journey coming from India at age twelve made me realize and appreciate the sacrifices that were made in coming to Pakistan. Wonderful conversation and enjoyed reminiscing the books I read growing up also. ❤

Loved the conversation. Growing up I read a lot of Robert Munch as a kid and then Ronald Dahl. My Mom introduced me to Enid Blyton and I absolutely loved those books. I also read Nancy Drew which was a lot of fun. Currently I switch between watching TV and reading books. I go through phases. Right now there isn’t too many dramas that have captured my attention, so I am turning back to reading more. The dramas I am currently enjoying are: Zard Patton Ka Bunn, Maan Jogi, Noor Jahan, Kabhi Mein Kabhi Tum and Gentleman (although Gentleman has slowed down and become repetitive these paste few episodes)

Dear Amna and Mahwish thankyou for giving us this episode. It was like I relived my childhood through your conversation. I also grew up on Enid Blyton, Nancy drew…. and the sequence that Amna narrated. Mahwish I loved the fact that u read AR Khatoon, she was my great grandmother and I know her novels by heart. Her daughter zubaida khatoon, my grandmother was also a very good writer, Uroosa and many other novels are also by her. I also know the poem “Muhabat ki aik nazam and love to recite it. Another one by Amjad Sb is “mohabbat ki tabiyat mein …. If u havent read it plz do, though I am sure that u must have read it and loved it too!!! I really loved ur conversation and am so happy that literature lovers are still around me. I think the thing I am proud of is that my daughter ia an avid reader, son is just like Mahvish’s so I can also hope that he starts to read again soon. I loved ur piece of art drama list. I love love love this conversation. I always have a book that I’m reading and know the importance of Adab. My mother would always tell us to respect our books and be respectful of different cultures. The state that Pakistan is in now is a big part of losing the actual culture of Adab. Which is so unfortunate. I used to ask for books for my birthdays and plead my friends to issue me books from library since our school didn't have it, i still remember we sister won second book of Harry potter from fm89 radio and we were over the moon, also my first Shakespeare was gifted to me by my sister in law when i was in school 😂, she was into classics, she lend me Jane Austen novels, these days, i love listening books on audible, but i still think hardcopies are the best❤

Always enjoy these sessions that you have with Mahvish so much, Amna. You two are so melodious in the way you talk and the words you choose. Such a pleasure. We had the same reading culture at our place and I have to say it helps open up one's mind for sure. I feel like my grandad, who instilled reading habits in us, was way ahead of his time. Our house was and is so tolerant towards different school of thoughts and ideas, and I think it was an extreme cultural shock for me to find how its so different in non-reading households. I wouldn't change this aspect of my upbringing for anything in the world. Also, not to put any pressure on you, but this could be a regular or frequent feature. Sending so much love your way.

I'm reading Haalim by nemrah ahmed rn, I procrastinated this one SOOOO MUCH because i was aware it didn't have the kind of fluffy romance i like to read, plus one of its main themes is politics which I wasn't very fond of either. But Nemrah Ahmed's brilliance is something I can not put in words. The way she included time travel and magic, how our main character Taliya Murad is a "con woman", her journey. Adam bin Muhammad's self discovery, such powerful lessons through these dialogues. Adam and Taliya consider Wan Fateh as their mentor I DO TOO! He is a great teacher! And I love that he is still a "siyasatdaan" does questionable things alot of times but when his POV is revealed, you're left mesmerised by how this man thinks. and I talk as if these people are real, because i feel that connection to them. At the end, it's Nemrah Ahmed's writing that draws me in so much! Allahumma Barik for her.

Aamna, your reading history from Enid Blyton to Mills and Boon to poetry to biographies matches mine exactly, except I loved Agatha Christie and spy thrillers too. Going to the library was a regular thing. Now we have moved to audio books, which is not the same but it has its own charm if the book is narrated by the author. OMG Aamna, that’s my whole childhood. Started from Enid Blyton & graduated to Mills & Boones in 9th grade. Ofcourse, Agatha Christie etc were there in between. I was smiling the whole time listening to you narrate your bachpan as that’s what my life was. My youngest & fondest memories of my childhood is our whole family going to a bookstore called “Family Bookstore “ ( not in Pakistan). I learned Urdu by reading Taaleem o Tarbiyat, Bachon ki Dunya, Naunehaal & all of our friends would exchange each other books. 😊

Loved watching this episode. It’s such a delight to listen to your cousin, Mahwish! I have also done Master’s in English literature from Lahore College and Mrs. Ijaz was my teacher too. The way Mahwish recited Amjad Islam Amjad’s kalaam, was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. I love this poem so much. Ibrar Ul Haq has sung this song in the past, which is not bad either. I live in America and listening to your conversation transported me back to my college days and my love for English literature. Now I’m motivated to start reading literature again on regular basis. I remember getting and reading every single Enid Blyton book I could get my hands on as a kid. ‘Agar kabhi meri yaad aaye’ by Amjad Islam Amjad was sung beautifully by Abrar ul Haq, I remember listening to it over and over and over. ‘Daastaan’ and ‘Zindagi gulzar hai’ should be mandatory watch for all Urdu literature students and unmarried girls respectively in my opinion:) I want to know Mahwish’s perspective about the recent deliberate wrong pronunciation trend in our dramas. Even in LSA the nominations announcer said ‘kaisi teri khud Garzi’ instead of khud gharzi 🤦‍♀️. To me it feels super odd

What a treat it was to listen to this beautiful, enriching conversation. Literature, art, and music are what add value to life and sadly we have lost the appreciation for it. The simple joy of reading is one of Life's greatest pleasures. I remember my entire childhood reading Enid Blyton, and Agatha Christie, and then as got older, I started reading fantasy, and classic literature, and then I got into History. I completely agree with Mahvish that one of the main reasons for the increasing intolerance of our times is simply because most of our people never learn to see from another's perspective and literature is what lets you develop these differing perspectives. More such sessions would be greatly appreciated. Loved it. P.S. Loved the recitation of that poem by Mahvish.

My dad always mentions the Imran series when he talks about books he read as a child.. Parents should encourage their children to read books. Read infront of little children so they know that books and reading isn’t just bound to school. I do it with my little boy who is just 3years old. He watches me reading and will always bring one of his books and sit by my side and pretend to read. P.S this whole conversation reminded me of this movie called “The dead ports society” highly recommend

Art should definitely have freedom but the drama barzakh should have not been on a platform like KZbin. It would be more suitable for Netflix… my problem with barzakh is when young minds who are not so sensible watch these types of mature content without having a mature mind. Especially when you are mixing religion within it.
