Jazakallahu khair for the talk Shaykh. I went back to check Tafsir al-Qurtubi as you advised and this is what I found regarding the ayah 2:30. “Putting” in this context means creating, as aṭ-Ṭabarī said. The earth means Makka. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The earth was smoothed out from Makka,” which is why it is called the Mother of Cities. Khalīfa (khalif) has the form of an active participle, meaning “the one who replaced the angels before him on the earth”, or other than the angels, according to what has been reported. It is possible that it is in the passive mode, in which case it means one who is sent as a representative. This āyat is sound evidence for having a leader and a khalif who is obeyed so that he will be the focus for the cohesion of society, and the rulings of the khalifate will [be] carried out. None of the Imāms of the Community disagree about the obligatory nature of having such a leader, except for what is related from al-Aṣamm [1] (lit. the Deaf), who lived up to the meaning of his name and was indeed deaf to the Sharī‘a, and those who take his position who say that the khalifate is permitted rather than mandatory if the Community undertakes all their obligations on their own without the need for a ruler to enforce them. The Companions agreed to make Abū Bakr khalif after the disagreement which took place between the Muhājirūn and the Anṣār. If it had been a definite obligation that the ruler had to be from Quraysh, there would have been no point in the argument and the debate which took place. When Abū Bakr died, he delegated the task of being khalif to ‘Umar and no one said that it was not mandatory. Its obligatory nature indicates that it is one of the pillars of the dīn which support the Muslims. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. [Tafsir al-Qurtubi: Classical Commentary of the Holy Qur’an, translated by Aisha Bewley, Dar al-Taqwa, London, 2003, p. 203] So in fact Imam Al-Qurtubi disagrees with what you have said Shaykh. Allah knows best

I am thoroughly disappointed by the level of stupidity I see in these comments. This was a thoughtful, evidenced-based, and eloquently conveyed lecture by a brilliant and sincere Scholar, mashaAllah. Yet, it appears some very dumb fools have been drawn here to comment and spam. I am interested in seeing if anyone can actually offer a cogent, and reasoned criticism that is specific in its nature, to his actual points. That, or an actual reaction that reflects comprehension of his actual words in this lecture. IF neither of these conditions can be met by commentators, then it's clear they are trolls and spammers, or simply deluded fools.

Interesting discussion but in fact there is no religious obligation in Islam to have a Khalif. Nor would it be practicable, logical or workable. In addition it would be without historical precedent to have a Khalif ruling all the Muslims in the world. The concept of a khalifate is a political construct of the past that bears no relevance in the modern world from a theological or political perspective. Even during the period of the first four Khalifs, neither they not the community used this term exclusively for the leader of the Muslim ummah. Terms like "emir" ("commander") and sometimes "imam" (leader).were used. For instance, the second khalifah, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, actually preferred the title Emir al-Mu'mineen (Commander of the Faithful). In the early community therefore we see the terms khalifah, emir, and imam being used interchangeably to refer to the same person - the leader of the Muslim community. In fact, there has never been a time where the title of Khalif has not been contested even during the time of the Rashidun after whom there was never a single Khalif who brought political stability and unity to all Muslims.Despite what the books of fiqh say in a religion which has abolished distinctions between Arabs and non-Arabs it would be unIslamic to claim that one particular tribe of Arabs should rule the Muslim world. Given this reality the only feasible option before the Muslims is to work towards the establishment of a just society free of bigotry, intolerance and violence on the lines of what the Prophet and the first four Caliphs did without the pipe dream of a khalifate.

Fadlullah Wilmot You are entitled to your own opinion. The fact is, according to our texts, their will be a legitimate Khilafah (upon the Prophetic Teachings) that will be re-established before the end of times.

Wa alaykum as salaam. It is best for you to ask a scholar who is well versed on the topic of Khilafah. But it has been recorded in various hadith about the return of Khilafah. One such hadith (translated in english) is “Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: ‘Prophethood will last among you for as long as Allah wills, then Allah will take it away. Then it will be (followed by) a Khilafah Rashida (rightly guided) on the pattern of the Prophethood. It will remain for as long as Allah wills, then Allah will take it away. Afterwards there will be a hereditary leadership which will remain for as long as Allah wills, then He will lift it if He wishes. Afterwards, there will be biting oppression, and it will last for as long as Allah wishes, then He will lift it if He wishes. Then there will be a Khilafah Rashida according to the ways of the Prophethood.’ Then he kept silent.” [Musnad Imam Ahmad]

anjem choudary offered you a debate you didnt want it and anjem choudary never claimed to be khalifah, be just !

Kelly Davies anjem choudary cant even speak Arabic, he spent his youth in the haram and spent his old age in condemning Muslims.
@kellydavies19679 жыл бұрын
so you hold his past against him ? do you have a sinless past ? do you know many sahabah were mushrikeen and did all types of sin untill they become muslim, you have very shallow understanding of the religion of islam
@theXveritat9 жыл бұрын
Kelly Davies comparing him to the shaba Lol. The shaba were generally raised by pagens they didn't know the truth but when they submitted they didn't turn their backs on it. Anjem choudary was born Muslim, raised Muslim yet turned his back on islam for most his life, so there's a big difference. For how many years has Anjem choudary been praying? 5? 7? 10? And under whom did he study? And how is it that he doesn't know Arabic yet thinks he can derive rulings from the primary sources? Anjem chowdery isn't even at the level to debate a 15 year old let alone anyone else.
@kellydavies19679 жыл бұрын
the reason i mentioned the debate is asrar rashid likes to play the lion challenging people to debate including anjem however when anjem accepted his offer he turned him down, so its quite hypocritical on asrar part. I notice you didnt answer my question are you sinless ? do you know anjem family to say of they were muslim or not, or if they understood islam to teach anjem ? so you shoudntt be so judgmental. The tribe of quresh believed they were following the tradition of ibrahim just like many people today believe they are following the religion of muhammed (sallaAllahu ayahim wa salam) but in reality are in a deep state of ignorance. If you really fear Allah you wont judge anjem by what he did 20 years ago you will judge him b what his doing today, u see him sinning openly today ?
@theXveritat9 жыл бұрын
Kelly Davies We are yet to meet a muslim who raises their children to drink alcohol, not to mention once someone reaches puberty they are accountable and hence anjem should have gone to a mosque to ask he was able and has no excuse. I have never heard of shaykh asrar asking for a debate with anjem. As for me I have never done a major sin nor do I indulge in minor sins except maybe a few when I was about 13.
