Salam. It’s so true about advice. A lot of marriages have fallen apart, as the party was given wrong advice. It’s a pity our community doing this.

What a wonderful teaching, if one follow this advise, & try to speak truth always is biggest quality one can develop, even if don’t follow any religious commands.

Tawriyah is an exception granted by the deen and has very specific rules so please don’t misunderstand the Sheikhs message. This is not his opinion or innovation. He is not promoting lying, he has explained how we can ethically get ourselves out of a tight corner by stating facts in a slightly technical way, if it does not hurt anyone.

Truth is the seal of God. Hence, the last letters of the first words of the Torah, "בראשית ברא אלוקים - in the Beginning God created" make the words "אמת", "emes - truth". Falsehood is a sign of lack of faith in God. One who lies is worried about their honor in the eyes of other people and he distances himself for the Creator. Truth is the trait of Yaqub, as in "Truth to Yaqub, kindness to Ibrahim, as You have sworn unto our fathers from the days of old." (Micah 7:20). In Judaism, it can sometimes be permitted though to lie for the sake of peace, such as to one's spouse. "Honey, dinner was wonderful!" :)

I don’t feel comfortable with not speaking the truth when a friend for example speaks badly about a person. Anyone who speaks badly about anyone, has an issue in their heart and needs to be avoided in the best possible way. I can’t feel comfortable with it - I feel this is the most horrible thing when everyone knows of a person backbiting about someone and keeping that knowledge from that poor person . I would never give a huge report but if they asked me I would tell them the truth

Sometimes we don’t understand or feel comfortable with the things Allah (SWT) has asked of us, but we have to remember that Allah knows what we can never know. He is al-Aleem (all-knowing), al-Adl (just), and al-Hakeem (wise). Islam is about submission to Him, so even when we do not understand, we must have faith in Allah and his religion. Particularly in cases like these where we have strong feelings about a subject, we must remember that Allah knows better than us, so-although we may not like it-it is what is best for us. May Allah make it easy for you and us all iA 🩷
