Human rights groups are sounding the alarm about Germany's deportation of refugees back to places they say are 'unsafe'. Unlike several other western nations, Germany regards Pakistan as a safe country-of-origin. DW's Luisa von Richthofen met one family from the Ahmadiya religious minority. They say they face persecution in Pakistan.

Asylum is not for when people in your area simply don't like you or want you to act a certain way. Asylum is for when your life is in danger. Signs in some shop windows saying they don't serve people who believe what you do, is not grounds for asylum. What is this story?

A very short example for you. They grew up learning "say Aslaam o Alikum when you meet someone. (just like, hello/hallo/guten Tag.... etc). . And now there is a rule in their country, if you use the word " aslaam o alikum " you are going to jail for 3 years & have to pay fine as well. . Imagine living without the word "hello", same situation. . As said, it is just a basic restriction. 😊 We say "love for all, hatred for none".

It's about providing sanctuary from persecution. To have a valid asylum claim, an official group in your origin country has to be attempting to kill or detain you indefinitely based upon protected grounds. Protected grounds include race, caste, nationality, religion, political opinions and membership or participation in any particular social group or social activities. So, if for example the SDP decided that it was going to give life imprisonment to all members of the AfD for their political views or even just for simply running against the SDP then members of the AfD could seek asylum in other countries. Or if Germany decided everyone who was atheist had to be killed, German atheists could seek asylum. Being unable to legally say a word or phrase is not grounds for asylum.
