@@dancemt1573It’s mostly Ray’s portrayal of the character, the facial expressions and gesticulations. A reassuring hand on Shin’s shoulder, the conflict and sadness in his face about having to kill Ahsoka, his anger when Ahsoka threw Shin. In the writing I would say it was when he gave Sabine his word and absolutely honored it. I think writing wise that was the standout moment that made his character unlike any other we’d seen in Star Wars before. Baylan Skoll’s character makes complete sense and Ray’s portrayal just elevates the character to another level.

Great review, but a little side note, Anakin did bring balance to the force when he killed the emperor he restored the balance, and now it shows that he ascended to his true purpose to serve as the father (mortis god) and keep the balance of the force on a cosmic level. I believe Thrawn keeps mentioning Anakin because it was established in the comics (I think? Or books) that Thrawn figured out Vader was Anakin. But Thrawn, being his usual self, knew it but didn't broadcast it. So his speaking of Anakin to Ahsoka is the same veiled way Baylan would speak of him to goad her into thinking that she is just like him and will become him. As for Ezra and the shuttle...it was kind of always a running joke in Rebels that Imperial Shuttles are always easy to steal. So, for me, I just thought it was the same running joke ... noi explanation needed because in Star Wars we always see the stolen shuttles but we never see how they got the shuttle hahaha

Thrawn isn’t going to be the engine that builds the First Order. That’s already been established as Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and Brendol Hux acting on their own. I have a genuine question for Star Wars and MCU fans: When Infinity War came out, were MCU fans upset that they had to watch 10 years of movies to understand what was happening? What about Endgame? Did casual fans go in asking where the heck is everyone? Clone Wars/Rebels have been around for 10-15 years. There are countless episode guides, mini-arcs that don’t require watching the entire show series. 1-2 days worth of content is not a lot given the amount of binging people do over the course of years leading up to new content. Also, Lucasfilm made clear that everything they put out can be drawn from as part of the lore. They made clear there’s gonna be homework. And that was almost 10 years ago. I don’t like everything they do, but I’ll at least watch the 10 minute Sparknotes video to understand what’s important to understand so I can have a more fulfilling experience. Just my two cents, I would like to know more about what causal fans think.

As a casual fan, I’m finding it confusing to understand the “rules” and mechanics of all these appearances of Anakin. First in a vision is some sort of psychic, near death experience… then the hologram recordings Ashoka trains alongside… finally his force ghost watching over as the shows’s ending. Three different appearances of Hayden with different rules that explain how each is possible is a lot.
@XGhostGamerX8

Its literally just the force. It doesn't need to be explained because its based in mysticism and magic. If you want an explanation the closest your gonna get is that at the end of Return of the Jedi when Anakin became a force ghost he became one with the force but maintained his individuality and sentience unlike every other thing that dies. The force transcends time and space therefore he can pretty much appear whenever the force deems it necessary. AKA whenever the writers deem it necessary. Thats pretty much it.

The reason Ezra and Sabine didn't work out is because Disney won't allow a woman to show any real affection for, or dependency on, a man. When Sabine first saw Ezra, she should have flung her arms around him and cried with joy and relief, but that's not an empowering look for women according to Disney. Then their relationship should have blossomed into romance (which would have made Sabine leaving Ezra to save Ahsoka so much more heartbreaking).

I’m a huge fan of you videos! But I have to say, your disregard of The Clone Wars & the way you believe the lore built from that show makes up 30% of the fan base is way off. You’ve done this all season with Ahsoka. Reiterating, I love your videos. I am a huge fan. But the Clone Wars is what MAKES Filoni’s work memorable and deep rooted in lore. The Mortis Gods are WAY more than you explained here, because they have a whole arc in The Clone Wars. Ahsoka is impactful as a character, because of the Clone Wars. I’ve seen you big up Star Wars Rebels, but it’s honestly pale in comparison to what CW did for Star Wars. The lore was expanded, the backstory and understanding of so many characters became so much more clear. The very foundations of these current shows is BUILT around what the Clone Wars accomplished in its 7 season run. This isn’t a critique, it’s genuine advice. Making these videos requires research, you’re right, but your research is missing a lot of key information that is presented in the Clone Wars. It’s frustrating as a fan of Star Wars, and a fan of yours, that you disregard the show, without even watching the whole thing through. Grace! everything you liked about Thrawn in this episode is just x10 in his 6 canon books (3 books for the empire timeline and 3 books before he joined the Empire). And as to why Thrawn keeps bringing up Anakin is because he met Anakin during the clone wars and they met again once he became a Grand Admiral and went on a mission with Darth Vader inbetween S3 and S4 of Rebels. This is ALL explored in the 3 Empire Canon books.

Grace, couple of things. 1) In the latest Thrawn novels he actually worked with Anakin Skywalker before he became Vader, then he worked with him AFTER he became Vader. Thrawn figured out who Vader was and even hinted to him that he knew his secret. 2) The ship Ezra "stole" was not Thraw's ship but Baylan's ship. Most likely what happened was Thrawn had no need for it and jettisoned it with Ezra on board. Just a thought, 🙂

The episode definitely felt like a mid-season break rather than an actual season finale, but that’s one of only a few complaints. They didn’t make Morgan a zombie, they made her like them. It was a level up, along with the Blade of Talzin, which is why Ahsoka had so much more trouble the second time around. As for where we go from here, Mortis is definitely going to be the main storyline of any potential S2. I loved Ray Stephenson’s performance and he will be sorely missed, but I feel to tell the story, they will have to recast. Whoever they choose has big shoes to fill.

Still, my husband struggled with Ahsoka because he has never seen Clone Wars or Rebels. He does enjoy the Bad Batch, though his favourite is Andor. So,yes, it’s going to be tough for the OG’s who don’t have the desire or time to do the “homework”.

I think Thrawen kept mentioning Anakin because in one of the thrawn books he worked with Anakin during the clone wars, so he remembers anakin, but I think it would be really cool if anakin played a larger role going forward in this story

I think you're right, these shows pretty much only cater to those who have watched the animated shows and require that "homework" to understand more than half of what is going on lol. Thankfully, I gave in and watched a couple of seasons of Rebels before Ahsoka because of your recommendations on the lives that I was able to enjoy the show. Rebels even made me a fan of Star Wars where I wasn't before tbh.

Since when does watching a complete story considered "homework" ? Is it okay to watch season 7 n 8 of Game of Thrones without watching all seasons?? Or the later Harry Potter movies n books without the first chapters?? Just don't understand this narrative for this show which clearly is season 5 of rebels and continuation of the filoni-verse
@l0st9
@l0st9 Жыл бұрын
@nickstanton6021 GoT and Harry Potter are complete series that exist on their own whereas Ahsoka is also titled as it's own series. Many people were introduced to her live-action version in The Mandalorian and it's only clear that the show is a continuation of Rebels if you've seen it or are familair with the other animated series. Which is the point that was being made. For those that haven't seen the animated shows will most likely be lost and may not enjoy Ahsoka as an independent series as say they have with The Mandalorian. Hence why, for casual viewers, some "homework" (Grace's word that I agree with) needs to be done before diving into this show and understanding most of what is going on. It's not a bad thing but it does limit the viewership, which fans won't care about but Disney will in deciding to continue with the "complete story".

Thrawn in the books knew that Luke and Leia were threats. It's kinda silly to me that there is no mention of Luke. Like, the Jedi who brought down the empire and is trying to build a new Jedi order, we're not going to mention him?

The title of this episode being an homage to the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe but also the World Between Worlds is also based off of The Wood Between Worlds in the first story in the Narnia series The Magician’s Nephew! Dang, this suddenly got really deep! I'd be open to exploring more of this, as long as it stays canon and seems worth our time taking in this information. Like, where is this all leading? I really enjoyed seeing Jedi be front and center, using different lightsabers! If they could make this a little more accessible for the casual fans, I think this should be the next group we follow in the next Star Wars movie(s). I think it could help bring balance the fandom! 🤯😎

09:55 The more complicated a story is the more niche it becomes? You use Westworld as an example, but not Game of Thrones? Audiences appreciate good storytelling no matter how complex the story is. This story is nowhere near that complicated and not even that complicated compared to the original trilogy which introduced a TON of stuff. We're just used to it now. The story Filoni is trying to make just needs to be cleaned up.

The problem with this show is that it's not really made for the average star wars viewer. It's made for fans of the animated shows. If only star wars had made one big epic multi season show that would be about this whole timeline, one storyline about Mando and grogu, another about ahsoka, another about boba fett etc... all building to Thrawn being a big bad. With some vision and preparation it really could have been something special. Working as something that's both for the fans of the animated series but also an introduction to this world for the people who only know the movies. They could've adapted major moments from the animated shows in flashbacks or just written the show in a way that reintroduced everything for new viewers so they understand all of this stuff without ever having to see anything else. Too much content is what's ruining both stars wars and marvel, more and more people aren't in the loop and so more and more people are dropping them.

Why is Ahsoka smiling so much in the final scene given her FAILURE and Sabine DOOMING an entire galaxy to Thrawns wrath. This show makes no sense from one scene to the next. It's like Ahsoka isn't a real person that exists in this universe... shes just dialogue on a page. Nobody seems worried AT ALL!

I really loved Ahsoka but I've already done the homework. They really needed to start the seasons with a live action ending of rebels or have Sabine have a flashback or something. Definitely more clues to the mortis gods, when they were fighting over the map to help spell things out a little more. My coworker that's also watching the series has been enjoying it but also really confused. What kept him watching was how compelling Thrawn has been. So good job Lars Mikkelsen but I'd pretty nervous if I was Dave/Disney that this show is too dense for a lot of star wars fans that have only seen the movies.

My biggest takeaway of this series is that Thrawn definitely should have been made the antagonist of the prequel series. Otherwise there was little else that interested me in this series. Once again too much time was wasted with standing around and nothing happening. I doubt I will revisit this series anytime soon.

15:22 same, I managed to watch the 4 seasons of Rebels, but Clone Wars has 7 seasons and they're more infantile 16:58 I _saw_ Rebels and still didn't make the connection lol from what I've seen of Ashoka in Rebels, I've felt like Dawson isn't hitting the mark, maybe it's the unjustified smugness...Thrawn seems here like the ultimate Monday morning quarterback... in the original trilogy, Lucas was known for his directing often being "faster, more intense" and I think this show could use more of that

Here's another potential candidate for the Son.... *_Morgan Elspeth_* ? The Night Sisters are all about how death is far from the end. So, who's to say that she won't be revived somehow? In terms of Sabine's force powers.... I have a theory. I suspect her attunement to it will continue to be poor and season two will have it so that she will continue to struggle with it; instead only successfully channeling it in relation to Ezra; to further expand on the show's theme of the two having an especially strong and close bond.

Y'know, I appreciate the "not knowing" of it all. These teases and dangling questions are what keep me engaged and wanting to come back for answers down the road. I find that that makes for great storytelling while also appealing to those in the audience who are deeper in the weeds of Star Wars. I think show writers would be doing a disservice to the audience by spelling it all out with over-bloated exposition and the experience would fall flat, closer to Book of Boba Fett or the most recent season of Mando. So while it may not be wrapped up with instructions like a Happy Meal, I feel like we're being challenged to buckle up for a seven course meal. Really loved this season and I hope they keep it up! Also, I'd be surprised if the boxes aren't full of dead Jedi.

I'm actually grateful you recapped the mortis lore. I knew it by name but knew NOTHING about it. I've been watching this show and piecing bits together as I go, it really isn't tough as long as you have a basic understanding that these characters all previously knew each other. But I'm completely lost when it comes to the Mortis stuff. I'm not against it, because I love certain parts of Star Wars Legends but I do agree it might be a bit of a deep cut for a lot of people and they need to very blatantly explain it themselves if they're going to keep referencing it.

The only thing Dave Filoni has done for Star Wars is finally convince me to walk away from it. Lucas was Star Wars. I've never had any interest in the Expanded Universe novels or comics nor the animated stuff. And after suffering through eight episodes of witches, black magic, zombie stormtroopers, lightsabers that only cut through things when the script requires it, characters with plot armor so thick they can miraculously survive getting run through by said lightsabers and all the 'member berries...yeah, I'm good. If I want to watch Lord of the Rings, I'll watch the Jackson films...

A friend of mine, who is just a casual Star Wars fan, asked me last night what Baylan is up to there? I said he might be looking for the passage of a World between worlds. Then he went to find the information on his own and learned that Beylan might want to get greater power. So, I think casual fans may also become more and more involved in the story of the future Star Wars universe.

Incredibly tired of the Disney+ formula of giving these series too short a season, and setting up soo many story points, then having most them not be fully explored in the current season, leaving it for a *potential* future project/seaosn. It sucks as fans having to wait years and years to see where these stories continue. We want full stories per season. Not a “part 1” that is only meant to lead off to something else. While Ahsoka had some wonderful moments , ESPECIALLY with Anakin, it ultimately fell into this same formula which I’m sure will affect its performance and enjoyment from non-Filoni SW fans (aka general audiences)

@@richierich7229 Proper storytelling would've allowed them to flesh things out in one season. They spent a lot of time in this season on meandering and meaningless stuff. That's not quality storytelling. Also, they could learn a thing or two from Gareth Edwards on keeping a sci-fi budget low, while making it look visually spectacular.

Big clone wars and rebels fan. I hated the first few episodes of this show tbh but it grew on me in the later half of the season. It was definitely a lot of fun but it didnt make me excited for more of this. I agree that Star Wars is best when it’s simple even though I love the lore. I think we should move away from the clone wars and anakin. We already got his whole family’s storyline. Star Wars is a really interesting universe, why do they have to be about the same timeline and people for the past 9 movies, all the tv shows?

Its a shame because i think ahsoka has been my favorite piece of recent startwars content.
