"I won't leave you. Not this time." Vader hesitates, remembering back to his past life as Anakin. His bond with Ahsoka, strained, but not yet broken. Perhaps her words move him, something deep inside and nearly forgotten... but it is not enough. Vader has sacrificed too much to the dark side. Vader has lost too much to go back. He hardens his resolve and calls upon the dark side. His hate, anger, and sadness. He has come too far to turn back, even for his former apprentice. If he is to die in battle, then better it be at the hands of someone he once loved. "Then you will die."

Looking back at the Clone Wars, makes this moment so much more emotional. Ahsoka Tano worshiped Anakin and he love that girl like she was his sister or daughter. He was never the most strict Jedi, but he was willing do anything and everything for her because she was more than just a padawan. Now here, he is set on killing her. Her leaving the order had nothing to do with him, but she left him all the same and it hurt him. I love Star Wars. People that have never watched it will never understand how much of a tragedy it is.

Her leaving the order broke him is what you wanted to say right?
@ericksantos45558 жыл бұрын
Yes, and in the act, leaving him as well. Wasn't broken completely, obviously. He still had Padme, but that doesn't mean Ahsoka leaving hurt him any less. He lost his mother, lost Ahsoka, and there was no way in hell he was going to lose Padme. Though, he did end up losing her as well. He lost his limbs, the Jedi, his freedom, his entire life, and condemned to a life of pain and suffering in a prison like suit. When Ahsoka says, "I won't leave you. Not this time." gets me thinking back to that moment, the adventures, and they bond they shared.

Vader didn’t call out to Asohka, Anakin did. He cared about her so much that their bond had literally become a part of who he was. You can see Anakin start to come back the second vader sees her. And when Ezra said “lets go!” that was the straw that broke the dark side camel’s back. All of Anakins (for lack of a better word) love for Asohka resurfaced. He calls her name because he misses her, and he doesn’t want her to go. The second time he says her name, he is using the same tone of voice he used with her whenever they were having a tender moment. Its like he’s trying to get all of his feelings across in one word because he knows he doesn’t have much time before vader takes over again. And when Asohka says “I wont leave you” it reminds him of all of his suffering, and vader does just that. This is just my interpretation, but it’s an educated one.
@pumpkinbagelpatch3 жыл бұрын
I agree
@theeviloverlord71683 жыл бұрын
Vader and Anakin aren’t different people, though. There is a lot of evidence, especially in the comics, that Vader’s more of a... mentality, what you get when Anakin is twisted by the Dark Side and becomes just a creature of anger and hatred. It’s almost a coping mechanism, because every time Anakin’s not dissociating himself from his past, he practically has a mental breakdown and can’t function (think Vader when he’s newly in the suit and Palpatine tells him he killed Padmé, or if you read the comics the last arc of the Aphra comics basically forces him to relive all of his regrets-Anakin’s regrets-and the first arc of the 2020 Vader comics basically has him practically bluescreen-of-deathing directly after Bespin before the Emperor punishes him for basically moping for a whole arc). As Vader, Anakin can function, even if, very loosely, his idea of functioning is self-inflicted punishment and taking it out on the whole Galaxy. When he’s forced to actually confront himself, he just can’t. It’s almost as if the Dark Side makes it easier for him to escape Anakin, so the way I personally interpret that scene is that Anakin’s real self comes out briefly, has a brief mental battle with himself about joining Ahsoka or not, and ultimately decides it’s pointless and he’s too far gone, shoves the humanity in him back down, and dives back into the Dark Side.

@theeviloverlord71683 жыл бұрын
@@biologydoesntlie4093 Exactly. Otherwise why would Vader care that Luke is Anakin's son? Also, Vader hates himself. He wouldn't have any reason to if he wasn't Anakin. It's really odd, but it's also like being Vader is not only a coping mechanism of sorts, as I described, but also an endless self-imposed punishment. Anakin views himself as a monster for what he has done, and his punishment for being one is acting the part, *being* the monster, and forcing himself to keep existing with what he has become. Which ironically only spirals him more and more into the Dark Side. In a way, you can then view his redemption by saving Luke as him loving Luke--who believes that there is still good in Vader despite having no tangible reason to--more than he hates himself.

I like to interpret that when Vader says “Ahsoka” and you hear his unaltered voice Anakin briefly surfaces up. But when Ahsoka says she won’t leave him again instead of the intended effect of comforting him, all those feelings of loss and being abandoned by her and everyone else that lead him to fall to darkness returns and pushes Anakin back down and sets Vader off. Ahsoka is a reminder of the man he once was and tried to bury away out of pain, anger and resentment. By killing her he’d be free of that link

For me, Clone Wars completely changes Star Wars, and this scene exemplifies that. Vader was the bad guy, and live-action Anakin was never the most likable character in the movies, but after really getting to know him in Clone Wars, every time I see Vader now, it just breaks my heart and I feel the anguish of knowing that this guy we came to love is now this thing that is so evil.

In a way, I feel like they're both begging each other not to fight. Vader especially. "We need not be adversaries." Vader has a deep seated HATRED of all Jedi. I love how the gap in skill is shown. Vader almost insulted by Ezra trying to fight him. Vader keeping Ahsoka so far on the defensive she can't even use her two sabers to get a leg up. Normally she would have had the initiative and her opponent would be trying to defend from agressive strikes from two weapons while only having one. But no, Vader straight up overpowers her advantage with sheer skill and experience
@possibly81802 жыл бұрын
If anything I think Ahsoka only stood a chance because Vader isn't exactly at his peak physically-speaking. Iirc Palpatine implanted him with more mediocre-than-average cybernetics that are quite literally limited in movement and cause him pain on purpose to keep him under his control. It's a pretty clever way of spinning the 1977 movie's cumbersome Vader costume in the lore's favor.
@SpectralKnight2 жыл бұрын
@@possibly8180 Also totally something as sadistic as Palps would do. Have you read what he did to the architect of the Death Star after the first blew up? So fighting someone he for once DIDN'T want to murder could have had an impact. Ex. Kylo Ren and Darth Maul
@iam40262 жыл бұрын
They seem quite equal here. Sure there were moments where Vader caught Ashoka off guard, but she eventually counters and resumes fighting on even footing. Vader looks like he is unable to keep up with Ashoka’s speed and has to make more movements to match hers, whereas he would normally wait for a nimble opponent to expose an opening then only then will he make a move. Hell, at the end Vader was the one who got his mask torn partially and his breathing apparatus damaged, so saying he overpowered Ashoka is quite an exaggeration
@SpectralKnight2 жыл бұрын
@@iam4026 "overpowers her advantage". As in normally you would have a pretty big advantage with two lightsabers vs one. They aren't metal blades so using two hands for weight has limited use. He is also clearly very conflicted about murdering Ahsoka. He is not used to that as there's very few people alive he would even hesitate to kill. Which we know has an enormous impact on your force abilities. You need focus to channel force power. He is basically halfassing this fight unable to actually use the force properly on Ahsoka. On top of that he is an armor designed to making it harder for him to move AND use the force. And she is only holding her own against someone she believes to be an enemy fully dedicated to bringing him down
@SpectralKnight2 жыл бұрын
@@iam4026 Ahsoka is very quick though. She is a speed fighter. While Vader is more a controlled power type fighter. He hits hard but not as quickly as her. Live Action Ahsoka Tano TV Show... Never thought I'd see this come to pass. Ahsoka Tano - The Journey: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX3dgKVvm9WnbZo Just wow. I am slightly confliced on this because I also wanted to get an animated show with Ashley that is a Rebels sequel and I am guessing this is what we're getting instead. I am mainly interested in the story and with it being live action, it will probably have a higher budget so that is a good thing. Plus, Rosario did an amazing job as Ahsoka and I am sure she'll nail it again. Still, I really want more of Ashley's Ahsoka as well. Hopefully she'll appear in the Bad Batch though if she does, I am guessing she will have a rather small role in it. Will the Ahsoka show begin after we last saw her in the Mandalorian? That seems most likely to me but I am guessing we might see some flashbacks and get more backstory on what happened to Ahsoka in-between Rebels and The Mandalorian. The World between Worlds logo implies to me that we might learn more about her time on Malachor after Twilight of the Apprentice, which I think up to this day remains one of the greatest mysteries sourounding this character. Clearly Thrawn will play an important role in that show given the exposition we were given in the Mandalorian and I am guessing so will Ezra. Given how they announced this one big story event that will resolve the storylines of all these shows, Thrawn might end up being the main antagonist, perhaps Moff Gideon is indeed working with him in some manner.

What’s really the heavy hitter of this scene are two moments: the moment when Vader - despite all his determination to forget his former life as Anakin, despite all the atrocities he’s committed - offers Ahsoka mercy. Despite his repeated insistence that he “killed” his former self, there’s still a small part of him that must not be able to bear the thought of killing the girl that was his student and his surrogate daughter. And the 2nd moment: when Ahsoka tells Vader she won’t leave him this time. We see Vader looks shocked by this. He’s stunned that there’s someone who, despite knowing all the things he’s done, still has love and care for him. He seriously stops and ponders whether or not to come with Ahsoka. We also now know that Ahsoka found out from none other than Maul that Anakin was being groomed to be Palpatine’s new apprentice. The Chosen One of the Jedi Order, turned against the Jedi. And Anakin did not even figure it all out until Palpatine had him at his most desperate. Ahsoka must feel that not all of it is Anakin/Vader’s fault and she genuinely wishes to help him. But Vader is so broken, broken from losing his wife and his offspring (supposedly), broken from his injuries, and broken from knowing all of the awful things he’s done, despite a genuine desire to turn back to the light side, he feels like he’s too far gone. Only through his own flesh and blood was Anakin’s redemption able to be fully accomplished.

Yeah vader seemed happy to have ahsoka there as to destroy another strong light part of him and be fully consumed (wasn't ever gonna work out anyway with his children alive)

They are the same entity. Bro why does everyone think they are two completely different people in one body that’s not how it works

@@darthmomo6548 no they are 2 different personalities, that’s the whole point of Vader talking about anakin as if he was someone else but him. it’s a way for him to cope with what he has done and for palp to feel like he had full control in converting him to the dark side

What you said basically except that you I don't like that people are convinced they are two separate entities
