3 way valve is used to bypass the chilled water according to the temperature set on the thermostat. suppose,temperature is seted on thermostat @24 and temperatures reched around 20 then it allow water to flow 20% from the coil and bypass the rest 80% water through the bypass line.

Hi Kuntal, I appreciate you for uploading such videos and I wanna add some more information here that, regarding the function of the 3-way control valve not ton maintain the flow rate inside the AHU coil but to control the flow .Based on the thermostat reading & BMS command the valve will allow some chilled water to flow through by pass line.

I really appreciate you sir and would like only to have an additional point to include which is the isolation of 3-way valve in case of future maintenance/replacement. I am thinking to have a threaded couplings of 2" to be connected on 2 inlets and 1 outlet of the the 3-way valve...I would appreciate for any feedback.

I would suggest couple of more items as well. first add 2 more automatic air release valve at the intake and discharge side of coil to purge air from coil and prevent coil from air trapping. b - always add a drain valve at the bottom of your strainer cap. c - make the drain pipe longer at least 1ft to collect drain from the system with drain valve for isolation. good luck and keep up the good work.

My friend couple of issues with your installation( a-I see the 3way valve is installed and there is not way to change it. since it is a 2in valve having a union is looks like necessary for maintenance works. b - You used 3in gate valve.. it is better to use butterfly valve since it takes less space.d-you do not need 2 reducers at the return side before 3way valve and cooling coil since they same size 2inch.

thank you for your informative video we just replaced the gate valve for the supply from 17 to 22.. but after three gate valve fitings due to factory defect it is ok now except the return gate valve is leaking now since it is 14years old and only now has been open it is dripping 1 drop per five seconds.. one of our outlets wich is rented has been complaining about losing customers during the installation of the supply gate valve so its a very hard for me to suggest to chairman(my father) that we need to replace the return gate valve..we operate a hotel in bahrain.. will the gate valve hold up for one year before bursting? it is cold season now here but we still need aircondition for our outlets

How about regulating pressure in the pipes? Suppose the chillers are located in the terrace, and this AHU is in the basement. So the pressure (water height) acting on the AHU coil would be very high! What can be done in such as case??

Muhammed Shafy ing Valve so you can say that , you can adjust the flow through the balancing valve and usually in ahu & Fahu , DPCV is used for regulate the pressure.

first of all let me tell u that chilled water system is always designed so that its pressure never exceeds the working pressure of a system, means CHW pumps are selected according to that....... in case.... according to site conditions u r getting more pressure in CHW line then u can use PRV to reduce pressure..... normally u wont find it.

Hi Nishan, There are normally two types of chilled water system in the industry one is variable flow system where we use 2-way control valves and other one is constant flow system where we use 3-way control valve.
