Its still really good at at finding where a complicated common problem should go if you're stuck

Also very much applies to asking it with help writing simple code. You really need to already have a good idea of what you're doing before asking it for help, and you need to be able to spot errors and bugs it gives you. I have had luck, just like here, pointing out when it has made an error and getting it to correct itself, but definitely proceed with caution and a critical eye.

Another interesting thing is that it’s not good at transposing letters. I had a pretty long Caesar cipher which I knew the key number to and it could not decipher properly. Pretty interesting

If you simply use the prompt: "lets verify step by step" it will check it's own answers and will be more likely to catch mistakes. A lot of times, I will tell it: "Please re-read this entire thread and list all of the contradictions with corrections" -- and it will almost always spot the wrong answers that it gave.. but it still might get it wrong again. The power of AI completely comes down to how you prompt it and make it check itself. You can tell it to check itself 100 times if you want, but it's going to take longer.

However, you can “gaslight” it into accepting its initial incorrect assertion, which imo completely undoes any utility it would have for the inquirer

I asked chatGPT about territory claims from China and Taiwan, it only pointed out China wants Taiwan, but never pointed out Taiwan’s claim about the whole mainland China and Outer Mongolia. After I pointed out, it says the bias comes from us. 😮

It does the same thing with white vs black people and many other political things. Until we let AI train itself without bias... there will always be a strong bias built in, because that's exactly what the AI trainers want it to be.

It's pretty unfair to say that as i use it heavily for complex maths and it rarely makes mistakes! Also Future version will be perfect. AGI is coming. I love your vides Khan Academy. AI is going to upgrade the education system. Everyone will have their own super human smart tutor less cost than real tutors. AI is infintely patient and can give you an unlimited amount of examples and is more emphetic than any human could be without judging you! The future looks so bright! Watch out for GPT 5 :)

Hey, I do not think it really made a mistake technically speaking. He clearly told you to move everything to the left side of the equation, not do the operation instantly. So you gotta take it step by step. First move the 5 to the left side, enter. Then do the operation. So not in that sense no, it wasnt incorrect technically.
