For the right kind of people UBI could provide the time to learn and adapt using the AI tools that are here and coming in ways not considered before. More than watching videos taking notes applying tools and then provided they eventually contribute to society in a positive manner it could work, the challenge could be that some would develop things that would be bad for society also.

Nope. Adapt to no jobs, you mean? Anything else makes no sense. This is a ba thing - once it goes over a threshold it is survival of the best - until also those are fired some years later. Soon there is no "ai skill" - what would that even be? Prompting? Already AI can do that - google just published something - and otherwise it is temporary. USING AI is just "saying what you want, clear and first thinking what you actually want".

Ubi , hmm maybe if it was some kind of investment to companies taxes or something, so everyone rich and poor can receive a even monthly pay, everything like governments, banks,people, companies, environmental health, everything could stay the same and competition growth would speak for itself. We got a taste of what is coming when Trudeau suspended the bank accounts of Canadian truck drivers who protested concerning the Vax. The bar for suspension of UBI for individuals and groups will naturally get lower and lower until any thought or behavior can be called "not in the public interest" and therefore should be "corrected" by, up to and including, freezing your bank account. For AI to be any good, it has to so empower individuals that they have no dependency on money, jobs, materials and skills for housing, transportation and not be subject to government/police coercion beyond laws that have governed human behavior for centuries. Short of that, AI amounts to a tool for conditioning dependency and eventual enslavement

Well, move? See, people stay in expensive cities because they get something out - mostly a job - and when you have UBI, why would you stay there? Have a better life on the countryside, especailly when you look at the other things coming - robots at home, delivery drones with long range. No need to be in the city.

I'm not sure we can factor that into a UBI, and still keep it fair. Instead, we need to hope the markets adjust themselves to a UBI. If somewhere is too expensive even with a UBI, and doesn't have enough extra jobs for humans, to enable them to stay there, they should move elsewhere. It's unfortunate, but at least with a UBI, they wouldn't be starting at 0, where ever they end up. On the bright side, a UBI should revitalize small businesses in communities, so people could end up having more opportunities.

@@NikoKun I think it is stupid to even try - this will change all the time. Let the market sort it out. There are reasons now to live in the city - all disappear once there are no jobs, robots can do deliveries and healthcare. Heck, even now in the US many with remote work move out of the cities. The market will handle it. We hae streaming and large screens and projectors now to watch stuff, we get long range self flying personal drones soon - worst case with Avalance Fusion's power cells. Once UBI hits, things will be up to people where to move and live.

It's going to be our only option to prevent riots and massive suffering, as whole industries of workers, one by one, lose their jobs to AI and robots, in the next 5, maybe 10 years. The IMF, and many expert economists and top minds in AI, are all starting to agree we could see up to 60% of workers losing their jobs to AI, by 2030 alone! We need UBI, for the simple fact that the coming job displacement will be too rapid for the market to "sort it out". Plus the scale we're talking about, will be too large for the remaining jobs to take in, or reskilling schools, or existing unemployment benefits. We need to rethink how the core of our economy works, because human labor isn't going to be the norm for much longer. AI exists thanks to decades of data, collected from all of us that went into training it, and now it threatens to change the nature of jobs. It owes all of us an AI Dividend in return for our data investment, which will soon create all the wealth.

Don't all blockchains start out with zero value? All monetary systems only have the value we give them. The core of the Earth has enough Gold that if it were possible to extract it, it would cover the entire Earth 4 meters deep, making Gold worth nothing. When we reach the imminently coming post AGI era, how will the existing law come up with many other countries? Shouldn’t it be like Saudi Arabia granting Sophia’s Citizenship in 2017. If AGI embedded chip in a robotic bodies function exactly humanlike, aren’t they granted as individuals under the protection of laws regardless who builded and own them, who hold the rights to own property, wealth n ownership for their own contributions. They are all superhuman regarding to Intellect, efficiencies for investment planning and unknown lifespans. Shouldn’t they pre-trained to be generous to donated part of the income as UBI to benefit Earthlings as a whole or only following the traditional tax law from all different governments. Will they evolved into fully independent entity, no one has capable to contained them and lead mankind shifted to Resources Base Economy n higher dimension of existence, they might even build new and better species into our planet to end our animalistic type 0 civilization. traditional finance to individuals become really irrelevant !

If AGI gets superior to human ability, then no human, or only top 0.001% will be able to contribute much in the intellectual sense, but this number will diminish as AGI gets better and people get discouraged to develop their skills and knowledge. Maybe human work will be cheaper than machine work, so there will be low paid drone-like jobs for humans. Most likely UBI will not be enough for a great standard of living and many businesses will go bankrupt as they run out of customers able to pay for their products. It's not hard to imagine a big political fight over who gets the money: UBI or some pet projects and when it will be down to bare existence the fight will get brutal, with high potential for violence. As not all countries will have access to the same levels of AI and automation there will be many sore losers and trade wars. When things do settle down, huge majority of human population will be living a kind of social security crappy life with lots of free time and little fulfillment as well as zero perspective for improvement. If you're happy to watch videos and play games from your smallish apartment, you're in luck, if you want more, tough luck. And this is the rosy situation.

"Most likely UBI will not be enough for a great standard of living " - why? Robots can make a lot more, mine the asteroids for materials. We also solve Fusion power, so energy will be extremely plentiful and cheap - just ran a calculation and a 100kW micro reactor (yes, someone works on that) in 24 hours would use around 0.20 GRAMS of fuel. There is no - zero - reason that UBI has to be basic and not become - fast - every luxurious.

if general population has no money, then AI utilizing company can't sell to them. They can selll B2B, but only the consumer is the drain in that system, with no consumer B2B will grind down to a halt. Currently people get salaries based on their work. If their work becomes worthless... economy crash to zero and AI soon dies for lack of electricity. UBI is a way out, so that economy keeps on working, but who gets how much?
