I dont understand the hate. If its optional, it sounds like a very cool feature. Most people use chrome for passwords, so all their credentials get stolen by an infograbber anyways if they get hacked.

@@timnonik2736 1. If it were optional, it would definitely need to be opt-in, not opt-out 2. It has been shown to be a very poorly implemented feature from a security perspective, so really nobody should ever use it 3. Browser password stores should not exist, as there are tools available (even free tiers & open source), for doing that & just because that garbage exists, doesn't mean more garbage should be created that follows the same poor level of security. Whether it is a useful feature, is a separate debate.

Personally I use Linux but I don't really see a problem here. If it's actually local like they say, then if you get malware, I think them recall in your history is not really. I main concern most malware just steals your saved passwords and tokens

Recall evolution: snapshots locally -> encrypted snapshots send it to the cloud, if you want -> encrypted snapshots send it to the cloud no matter what, but trust me, it's encrypted -> you forgot about this function and we do whatever we want with your info because you accepted an NDA

It's a feature I definitely don't need and I would consider to entirely stop using windows if this feature gets implemented on all machines. Even if there is a feature to "turn it off". If it becomes a mandatory feature in the future and is not deactivatable, then I simply won't use windows anymore.

Obviously you don’t work in an enterprise environment. Being able to search something I read on a 100 hundred pages document where I don’t remember exactly what was being written or by locating it by something like “Graph with a purple red and grey title on the bottom” is just a time saver. And that’s the first thing it came to my mind. As an IT, if the implementation is fast, you could search for a JIRA, GitHub or ZenHub issue from your desktop without even opening your browser. I have bad memory, maybe if I’m learning a new framework, I could search for a specific part of the documentation without having to search trough all the page I read.

In terms of AI processors for productivity work, I still prefer macs (specifically mba m3) over windows ultrabooks with NPUs such as the surface laptop. Besides, I believe apps will better integrate their systems to Apple’s neural link in the near future. M3 mba still outperforms its competition engineering-wise. In an incredibly thin fanless chassis, they have solid performance and top of the tier battery life. The pure definition of efficiency, design and build quality. Macs simply age better. Without any maintenance, I’ve been using my macbook pro 15-inch 2017 for about 7 years now, and it still runs well, had no issues with it.

Aside from the obvious issue of privacy, I just don’t think this is anywhere near necessary. At this point you’re just reinventing the wheel when search histories exist. I don’t know if it would be good for backing up your computer either. And I dread what vulnerabilities this will open up.

I saw somewhere that It can be disabled. I surely hope so. I only use windows because there is nothing better than Visual Studio for C# (I don't like Rider). I switched to a Mac and I'm happy with that.

I tend to like MS tech but I have a MacBook and run Linux on some of my machines. I've pre-ordered a Lenvovo Yoga with the new Arm CPU because I want t see what the future might be. With all that said, I won't be switching Recall on (it's off by default) because it seems pointless, invasive and dangerous

all this concerns about privacy are stupid, time machine from mac os takes snapshots of your machine and no body is calling that a security risk. literally the snapshots are saved locally with a local key encryption and windows 11 will use bitlocker by default. For christ sake, it is a feature, you will even be able to deactivate it for sure somehow...

Privacy is a real thing.. not everyone is sitting watching cat videos all day & their activity is not something they want shared (not because it is illegal). The best way to avoid all this A.I. / CoPilot / spyware crap? Install and run Linux. Period. And yes....I know there are vulnerabilities for Linux as well?..but I have been running Fedora Linux on an HP laptop from 2004 until now and it DOESN'T have any kind of antivirus on it...and it still runs today...and IT HAS NEVER SUFFERED A BREACH OR HACK!!! What Windows laptop can claim that?...and mind you...were in the year 2024...that was 2004...that's TWENTY YEARS people1. Wise up...leave the Microsoft ecosphere and become a free software user.
