In the short term it will be very disruptive and create lots of changes in how work is done and in the work force. It will create a lot of uncertainty. I'm surprised how little was mentioned about robots doing manual labor. These robots are coming in this year or next year, very expensive at first. 4:17 some think we will change society and not have to work anymore. Obviously, it depends on the first part and how the transition is handled. 11:08 this is the scary part, the countries which don't get (enough of) the tax benefits from success full AI utilizing companies will have high unemployment and no way to roll out ABI. So the first waves of disruption could turn out badly in certain parts of the world. 13:13 yes, BUT only when provided a system prompt to do so, basically: role playing game that gave it no other option. And creating a lab environment specifically to allow it to do so. It shows it could, but also doesn't mean it will happen. The 'paperclip maximizer' problem is a bigger problem in the short term. About the keyboard: did you know the F and J key have this little nudge ? That is meant for touch typing so you can center your hands blindly.

"You" people are misunderstanding the issue. Here's why: Supply and demand is a basic rule of nature, but people forget it applies/covers jobs as well. This applies to the AI situation not because it will literally replace people, ie all the people to be specific, but instead it will lower the reward/wages for jobs in all sectors… which means the people get replaced as-in they starve.

I haven't earned money in 5 years. Hasn't caused me any "short term pain". A UBI in favour of preventing the emotional turmoil that comes with the transition would force us into implementing AI into capitalism instead of allowing AI to free us from it. Automate agriculture from farm to table and finish up 3D printing houses. There is no concern for AI taking jobs, just your ability to profit at the end of your journey. You don't need it anymore. wake up.

Look up Sam Altman's blog posts on this topic. He is very clear about the consequences and runs through different scenarios, describing how bad they could be if they don't mitigate the risk. One of the most serious issues here is that with no one having jobs, we'll _have_ to have a system like UBI (as mentioned) or populations will starve and revolt. You obviously can't maintain a country with 99% not working and 1% accumulating literally all the benefits. But then even with UBI, the complete destruction of social mobility that we still have to some extent today with skills is another disaster. I think you could have covered this topic in much more depth and seriousness with a bit of research and I would encourage you to look up these blog posts. He's not being flippant, the man was not worth all he's worth today when he wrote all this. One was titled "Moore's Law for Everything" and covers a lot of this, I highly recommend you read it and think of when it was written.

Something I fear is our quality of life post UBI. The more poeple that gets enrolled under such a system, the less there will be for everyone. For example, a country gets 1billion a year from taxes and has 10million citizens. This means 1k/y per person. Now, any extra immigrant you import will dilute the money pool everyone has accessed to. I dont know what our leaders are thinking, perhaps theire just in the big pockets of the capitalists helping them reduce the current wages under the current system.

UBI only works if the goverment creates an AI tax BEFORE mass AI adoption because of if happens after mass adoption then the stock market would fall because of sudden decreasing of operating profit margins and the companies would just pass the new tax to the consumers basically undoing it.
