Interesting video! It’s hard to see how some floating white stones facing the centre are advantageous for White, but I like the explanation that Black started with the corner enclosure that only got a bit bigger and more secure in exchange for those fairly strong looking white floaters. How to use them effectively is the hard follow-up problem for the middle game. I White doesn’t like this kind of position, he simply shouldn’t attach to start with. Leaving the top right alone for a while, leaving the option open to maybe invade the corner later could be quite an attractive alternative to me.

For a future video, somewhat related to this one, could you cover the 2-space jump from the 3-4 point that seems to be popular nowadays? I struggle to invade it effectively, and can't confidently play it myself without knowing how to defend it.

Good idea, I’ll have to think how I want to do that. For now, I can tell you that in the opening at least, the emphasis is on controlling space towards the sides and center rather than defending the corner.

Hello thanks for the video very nice from you. I have 2 questions here, in which situation is the old fashioned move (the 'keima approach") more efficient, if any? 2nd questions is : supposed white is very strong in the upper left, for exemple with a wall facing the shimari. What approach move of the shimari would you recommend? Sincerely yours.

The keima approach is fairly good when backed by a strong position. While an AI will often suggest the attachment anyway, even top pros will have difficulty translating that into human values and logic, and the difference is subtle in any case.
