I disagree with the 0% Sync Rate criticism. As someone who has beaten the challenge boss multiple times with different builds, I don't think I've ever dropped to 0% except for when I actually died. It's so easy to get Sync Rate back that I think the stun is a fine punishment. Sync Rate operates like a mixture between Stamina, Mana, a Posture Bar, and Monster Hunter's Sharpness bar. Also, the bonus difficult enemy right in the beginning is much more like the giant crystal lizard at the start of Dark Souls 3. Hits hard, will likely kill a new player, and drops upgrade items if you manage to kill it. The AI Limit one is significantly easier to kill, though.
@shdwboi07Ай бұрын
Same here. I honestly warmed up to the sync rate system because of the challenge boss, there's something truly satisfying about watching her dump all her sync acting all anime then slapping her silly hip into a stun. Also agree that the first optional enemy is definitely more BloodBorne Scourge Beast / DS3 Giant Crystal Lizard tier.
@livaveragegamerАй бұрын
Yeah ok, I could concede those

Agree with everything about the shield, the Bionicle guy, the first impression and the anime 1v1. Now, they're a tiny team and the game seems to be like 85~90% of the quality of Code Vein, which isn't bad but since CV was already carried hard by the character creation, snappy gameplay, developer recognition (God Eater), and Io, I believe it's not going to be that popular. They really need to start with a banger like the end of Ch1 in Nikke or the tutorial of NieR Automata, something that hooks the player and establishes the setting. They don't have the first movers advantage so they have to compensate by story, animation, visuals (art direction). I'd like to add that the character outlines could've been better, and the skirt of the first outfit having some sugoi PS3 AA quality clipping. Other than that it seems like a cool anime souls-like, pretty much a slight downgrade to CV, which is alright since there are no anime souls games that aren't indie, and AAA trying its best to be unappealing.

my opinion is that they should have gone all in on the bloodbornish feel of the game. They had the hunter dash, why just not go for the gun parry and rally system too? The souls-like has been done to death, very few try to tackle bloodborne
@kphuts81527 күн бұрын
I feel like it kinda had a rally in its own way through the sync gauge since your attacks recover it. So if played well you would never have to be stunned which is probably the only thing I disagree with the video on.

The most important thing about a souls game isn’t the mechanics or gameplay, it’s the atmosphere that FromSoft is able to create. The world building in Bloodborne and Elden ring is amazing.

Very good review. i wish more youtubers reviewed their early access copies like this, but a little correction at 8:20 ,that is not supposed to be the asylum demon, its actually more like the crystal lizard at the first area in dark souls 3 and its supposed to show you that 1- you will be rewarded for exploration 2- you can leave and come back later when you're stronger, hope you do more of these man

Great Constructive Unbiased Criticism, you provide various valid points in your critique, hopefully the devs see this video, and also take feedback from the other demo testers.
@ELDENLORD89Ай бұрын
I’m always partial when it comes to indie devs making Souls games. I know how much of an undertaking it is especially when you don’t have the budget or Fromsoftware. I don’t expect every new Souls like to be on the same level as Lies of P. That being said the demo was a 6.5 to me. I actually had allot of fun exploring the sewers since it reminded of Lendell Catacombs. The action feels like elements were cribbed from Bloodborne including the white flash on charge attacks. Your point about the water at the beginning was exactly how I felt as well. I don’t need my games to have RDR2 level physics but the lack of detail on her rising up from the water just felt off putting. I also get your point about that random elite enemy at the beginning of the game but funnily enough Bloodborne did that too with the axe guy. So I was fine with it. I do wish the dodge roll was a bit more fluid. And I also agree that the jump should look visually better. I feel like with more time in the oven this could be a solid 7/10 Souls like. I was actually thirsty for more when I finally got out of the sewers but by then the demo was over.
@keeysOSTАй бұрын
I hope they give the attacks more kick. That's something I also criticized about Code Vein. While the animations are good, it sometimes feels like you're swinging a large stick.
@AOKellyJrАй бұрын

@GameBooAdvancePlus17 күн бұрын
As for the shield, I think it's more healthy to look at it like Lies of P looked at it. where you mix and match your responses depending on the situation instead of being ride-or-die with one default response like many souls people are conditioned to do (for some unknown reason, pride?). The shield makes some encounters, particularly with those freaking annoying robots with no queues, way easier to deal with and that may be the intention given that you get the shield right before you encounter 2 of those robots in succession.
@RawFish2DChannel28 күн бұрын
I agree with the water being weird when you step on it, but also it only reflects light and not your surroundings which looks super weird to me. If they don't want to use heavy effects for reflections they could just make it transparent so only light reflection is visible enough and you can see floor through the water though, heavy reflection effects are erguable, something like cubemaps or SSR would be good enough, with former looking better with better performance in a static scene

Fantastic critique, game has a ton of potential
@durakeno5575Ай бұрын
Hmm after watching this, I agree with most of your points except the one about sync rate zeroed vulnerability. While this can happen by just getting hit, there other situations where you it makes more sense. Like when you’re using shield, it’s the consequence for blocking too much damage. There’s also a debuff which drains sync rate continuously. So you have to attack to keep it from putting you down. The sync rate also works as poise in this way.
@TriggerHippieАй бұрын
5:10 "determine" is correct, not "determines". "which" is referring to "multiple levels" which is plural. Therefore, the verb that refers to it should be plural (determine) , not singular (determines). If you're going to be nitpicky about English, make sure you get it right-especially when you're a native speaker criticizing text in a Chinese game. Gonna watch the rest of the video but thought I'd point out that small mistake. edit: finished watching, rest of the points you make are fair I think. Really hope the full game turns out good. It's funny because I'm currently replaying Code Vein which I first played 4 years ago and the fact that they never made or announced a sequel bums me out, then I stumble upon this game which kinda seems like a spiritual successor to CV in a way.
@Timbolus97Ай бұрын

Great review and I echo most of the sentiments. The parry window and dodges feel a little off and I think its down to certain boss animations on slashing attacks just coming out too quick. Parry should be a main part of the kit as it keeps the fighting more dynamic and less turtling. Otherwise I think the visuals just need some work but mechanically I do think there is a good game here and I wishlisted it.

5:10 very minor grammatical nitpick - "determine" and "determines" can both be grammatically correct, as it is ambiguous whether it is the sync rate or the levels doing the determining. If you just changed it to "determines", it would still read weird to some people, so it would be better off rephrasing the entire sentence imo

Im at this boss hunter of blades. Im getting my ass kicked still. I feel like they could do better with the attacks. I feel like they're a little slow since you're basically a robot. The design you did on the Lore boss was sick looking, I like that better than the original. I also agree with you about getting stun locked at 0%. That pissed me off because you already get thrashed around. There a few things I would like them to change but all in all im hoping they improve the game more because I am interested in it. The boss challenge is what sold me on the game. Seeing what cools stuff you will get and how sick this boss is makes me wonder what the other bosses will be like.

hobbies are fun because they're enjoyable so don't worry about not following through with promised reviews if it just didn't end up working. one note on the graphics, the cel-shaded style looks pretty good but the strands of complete black look like graphics glitches. I beat this DEMO yesterday and as someone who played Code Vein, I liked it, I specially loved the references to BLAME's visual style, this game is super BLAME looking, but my bigger complain is that the playable character isn't sexy looking enough XD, well that and that I think the game is still too green, it needs improvements in its combat animations, in the textures of the character you use, I mean the skill systems, weapon systems and combat systems are fine, but the game still feels too crude and I think the Demo was just a taste of the real final product, so instead of a polished game we will got a too indi and too handicraft looking game, not a final product from a professional team (even if it is a little team) I think they should take at least some more months to completely polish the game specially in the visual aspect, and the telegraphy of the enemies movements, however it seems that the game will be released very soon which worries me.

Secondly, the defining feature of rogue likes is the procedurally generated levels where progression is additive between runs. Both of these go against the careful level design and linear progression of Souls games. However, I do agree that Souls-like is a dumb name, we need better genre terms for these things.

@@Miyakolover I can't speak to all of them but I wouldn't go as far to say wukong "rips off" dark souls. I also wouldn't make the distinction of it being a Chinese thing. Everyone has had a go at it because it's a really good idea. What's unique is that China and Korea seem way more invested in singleplayer games now than they traditionally were and it may be a result of programs like Sony's "China hero project" or it could be that they see the gap in the western market for straight forward gaming, who knows though, time will tell.

@MiyakoloverАй бұрын
@@livaveragegamer Well, what I generally mean is that we got Japanese and Western devs shaping up gaming as we know it today and that Chinese and Korean ones come in late and haven't done anything that sets them apart from what's already present. For examples, we got Hideo Kojima inventing the stealth genre and popularizing it with the mechanics of Metal Gear on MSX. Konami also invented the side scroller platformers genre with their game Scramble in 1981. Another example is Walter Bright who pioneered the turn based genre in gaming with the game Empire. Another example is John Carmack who created Doom and his innovation made the FPS genre what it is today (I know FPS games came before, but none of these games could do it like doom). So basically, my criticism of Korean and Chinese devs is they're not doing anything new, infact companies like Mihoyo for example is captializing on anime success with their anime games, which is a Japanese invention in itself. Hope this explains my perspective.
@livaveragegamerАй бұрын
@@Miyakolover Yeah I can see where you're coming from. Maybe one day they will come up with something. I can only roughly speak for China. For a lack of a better word "Premium gaming" is fairly new in China as a whole so maybe they just need more time at it. Could also be that it's getting harder to invent new ideas within a medium that is almost 40 years old. Hope it's the former personally. Don't mind me, just thinking out loud. Thanks for sharing.
