About 1:20 - properly exposing in camera is only important on Canon. Other brands (using Sony sensors) are ISO invariant, so lifting shadows in post does the exact same thing as raising ISO in camera. (Yes, there is also dual native ISO to consider, but in most cases the 2nd base ISO is so low, that you wouldn't be shooting below it, even when underexposing.)
@jan_wegener10 ай бұрын
I can’t say that’s my experience with the A1 or A9 III
@houserhythm10 ай бұрын
@@jan_wegener no idea about A9 III if it's ISO invariant, being a totally new type of sensor. But I do own the A1 and everything shot past ISO 500 (the 2nd native ISO) looks the same, whether raised in post or in camera. Also true for A7R V, past ISO 320, which I also own. And for the Z 8 past ISO 500, which I also had for ~2 months. If you shot the A1 at ISO 320, for example, then raised it 1 stop in post, yes, it would look worse than shooting at ISO 640, bacause in post you wouldn't benefit from that "boost" at ISO 500.

I use ON1 Photo Raw and definitely find that their auto performance over sharpens the images, and although AI it defaults to exactly the same settings regardless of the iso used. Every time they ask for feedback I tell them to reduce the level of sharpening, but there has been no change yet. Having said that a quick play with the sliders can normally make dramatic improvements.

Hi Jan, as a DxO Photolab user, I've been spoiled get the newer DeepPrime methods half a year earlier than PureRAW, but this great update didn't reach the new PhotoLab 7.5 yet .. I fear I'll have to wait for 8.0 somewhere in October. I did notice yesterday, DxO now has the profiles for your old 600/4 ii with extenders .. exactly what you had been begging for before getting the RF version. But (when you have time ;-)) you could reprocess some old noise images now with PureRAW 4 !

Have you tried the Lightroom Lens Blur in the right panel? It does blur out noise in the out of focused areas. You can adjust the intensity and focus range, plus use the brush to add or subtract the focus area. I use it to get a start then use the masking area to further work it if needed. I too use the denoise in Detail but the Lens blur is an option for some cases.

Good to see how PureRaw keeps getting better. Your results with Topaz Photo AI is really surprising. I’ve used it extensively for at least a year now and never ever got such awful results as the ones your showing. Using its auto-pilot mode is usually not the best but still much better than the results you got here. Tweaking the settings and using its powerful masking tools, especially in the just released new version of Photo AI, gives me consistently better results than I manage to squeeze out of DXO PureRaw 3. PureRaw has superior camera-lens models for optical corrections but instead it sharpens the entire image and that way often makes a nice out of focus background not so nice anymore in the final result. Well, with that said I must try PureRaw 4 as soon as possible. And, I would really like it if you make a follow up comparison with the latest version of Topaz Photo AI using its masking and tweaking possibilities.
@iyengarfamily944310 ай бұрын
I agree 100 percent. All the things mentioned about DXO Pure Raw 4 to get a preview and also changing the strength of the noise or sharpening can be done in photo AI. Not sure why a standard one shot of Photo AI is used when the same DXO details with sliders are shown. A fair comparison would show both tools to compare. Big fan of yours but I felt this was biased toward DXO

I was using the latest version of topaz and played around with the sliders, I didn’t do any selective masking. For PR4 I used the standard settings. When I opened the file in topaz it analysed it and then gave me the RAW option with a few sliders that I moved around to get the nicest looking result. I have gotten better results in the past, but on these two images I didn’t find a great setting that improved a lot what I was seeing.

I have recently moved to DXO Pure Raw4 from Topaz. I didn’t like trying to use Topaz with the Nikon 180-600 lens. DXO4 does so well with the images this lens produces using the default settings. I have been using Topaz Denoise for many years now, and was always satisfied because of the quality and its speed, especially compared to LR Classic's Denoise AI. So I timed the differences and took some of my photo's shot with the Nikon Zf at ISO 10000 of various birds. It took DXO 3 times more time to process than Topaz, but the result is simply....amazing! No artefacts, you still keep a DNG file instead of TIFF with Topaz and it runs completely in the background so you can do other things as well. Thanks for this comparison video, I will definitely purchase DXO and now I know that I can set my max ISO easy to 26500 in darker environments.

Ján, Just wondering what version of Topaz Photo AI you were using for this comparison. V2.4 allows you to use layers that will analyze the subject and background separately. Noise reduction is a balance between detail, noise reduction, and sharpening. Moreover, that balance is highly dependent upon the illumination level because at high iso values overexposure introduces noise just as underexposure does. The difference is that these are two different types of noise. Just wondering what version you used for Topaz photo AI

So with all these different options in settings, their is never going to be 1 setting which is best for all the photos from my trip :( The beauty of the earlier versions was, I could just drop them in and hit "process". Then, if they needed a touch more noise removal, or sharpening, I could always do that manually, as a final step in Topaz. I guess I could just go "really light" on all the settings, and still do that ? This is probably what happened to you with the parrot. Sometimes I do get a checkerboard pattern in the sky with Topaz, and then I just give up and use Lightroom enhance. However, DXO 4 looks like it might be worth trying out!

I used whichever was the latest yesterday, which I believe was 2.4

Doesn't seem good enough to buy and replace adobe lightroom denoise. But glad there are competitors putting pressure on adobe!

Yes competition always helps

I'm done with DXO. Just upgraded to Pureraw 3, three months ago. They won't upgrade me for free. The cost of the software is Turning out to be more than an Adobe subscription. I'll just use Adobe Denoise AI,

I want to upgrade but it says it costs £109 which i expected but when i click to upgrade its still £109. Surely that's not the upgrade price?

There should be a discount I believe, but not sure

And people still swear by Topaz over DxO... Madness. Topaz has never been close.

It would be nice to have a disclaimer saying what sponsorship or payment you have with these companies so we can make up our own minds whether it's an unbiased review
@jan_wegener10 ай бұрын
No payments or sponsorship with any. topaz and dxo have given me the software to use. So there’s no reason to favour anyone. And if someone buys the software with my link, I may get a small commission from either brand. Like with cameras, I use and share what I think is best. I never share something that I don’t think is good and wouldn’t use myself

I don't see how Lightroom is easier to use than Dxo when Dxo is integrated with Lightroom and just opens up a window like the Ehnance in Lightroom does. Dxo also works faster by about 20% on my computer. It sharpens where Lightroom just removes noise. So no, Lightroom AI denoise is not easier in any way. It's the same. Don't see Dxo 4 being significantly better than 3, maybe worse even. Dxo 3 looks a hair more detailed and leaves a bit of noise in for a more natural look. Never noticed any aftifacts with 3 either. Not convinced to upgrade at all.

What I don't like is how much the colour changes, until all the AI noise tools fix this I will stick to having more noise in my shots
@jan_wegener10 ай бұрын
Which one changes the colours for you?
@E3Zombie10 ай бұрын
The shot you show at 6:34 the hue of the greens is totally changed by the AI. It’s not as big a deal with landscapes and animals but when you’re working with people these slight changes can be really noticeable

Unfortunately there are visible color changes with both Adobe and Topaz Denoise. I haven't tested Pure RAW in this regard yet, but I will in the coming days.

Adobe Enhance? You mean Adobe Denoise AI?
@jan_wegener10 ай бұрын
Well, you right click and go to enhance
@dbenedict35710 ай бұрын
@@jan_wegener oh man.. I always was already adjusting sliders out to the right and in the DETAIL section there is a DENOISE button which is what I used. Bad UI design by Adobe I guess to call it two different things when accessing it two different ways.
@jan_wegener10 ай бұрын
@@dbenedict357I guess cause the denoise is doing it on your raw, whereas enhance creates a new file

Do Not buy DXO. The Software frequently asks new for the activation Code and After 4 times Blocks completely. And DXO does Not answer.

All this is very valid but you guys never mention that this now requires much more and much higjer subscription for using these software solutions that I am no longer support. Just my choise I guess but noise was never qn issue for me either cus I love filmic vibe no matter if portrait of a person or a bird. That's where the subjectivity of "beautiful photo" comes into play 🤠

Technically most of these are still stand alone software, but they kind of force you to update every year so it becomes like an expensive sub

Don't buy from DXO. Their support is WORSE than terrible.

79€ nach so kurzer Zeit für ein Upgrade? Sorry, absolute Frechheit.
