Why the heck is this necessary? Grocery shopping is already one of the simplest weekly things to do. This just makes it more complicated. Why can't I just go in a store, get what I want, pay for it, and leave? Why do I have to be the one weighing my own fruits and vegetables before I even get to a register? Also, I don't see any child seat on that cart. What are parents of small children supposed to do? Are grocery stores encouraging parents to leave babies in hot cars now? AI is evil.

I agree with you. I already go into the shops buy what I want and leave. I don't care for learning new things when I have to go shopping like..really? + I am supporting LOCAL workers when I shop. That's important. It's not necessary in any way shape or form and other news outlets say it won't effect jobs what a lie.

I feel like most of this could be acomplished with your existing smartphone and app. So back in the day grocery stores used to have scales in the produce area and you weigh your produce that wasn't already pre packaged. It's just scanning bar codes and QR codes. Also if you take things out of the cart does remove it from your final bill?

A few stores, including Walmart, let you shop with “scan and go” by scanning your items from your phone as you shop, but you have to be a Walmart Plus member to use it. The main problem with letting everyone use scan & go is that it would highly increase the amount of shoplifting. There is already so much theft at the employee-monitored self checkouts, so just imagine how easily people could put a few items in their cart without scanning them, it’d be a mess. I feel like the Capter carts are a very good idea, considering that it would be much harder to put something in the cart without it being scanned. Even if you covered it with your hand when putting it in the cart, the cart will detect that the weight has changed. My favorite part of the cart is that fact that you DON’T need your smartphone, so it can keep you more present in the world. And to answer your question about removing things from the cart, if you remove something from the cart, it does detect that and will cross it off your bill.

@@matthew_ad people are stealing more because they know stores have a policy of not stopping thieves. For liability and insurance. A fancy shopping cart isn’t going to stop them.

It’s not going to fix that problem, but it should fix or greatly reduce the issue where people purposely or accidentally don’t scan an item at self checkout without staff noticing. That’s why there has been so much talk over stores and if they should remove or place limits on self checkouts. If you’re just taking a bunch of shit and walking out of the store, you aren’t checking out in the first place.

Shoplifting explodes. People can just put hand over bar code and place in cart. New ones have scale at the bottom of the cart that weighs produce and prices it for you. Great for smaller stores but wal mart and costco can't do it. But again...scammers have figured out how to place items in cart...don't hit the sensor with the product....then pay rite on the card reader on the handle and walk out with lots of unpaid items. Won't replace self checkout in the store because workers can monitor people scanning items at the checkout. With these "smart" carts therre's no way to stop huge theft of items from the store. Another idea that will die!!!!!

Everything is not AI powered and that term is way overused by people who have no clue what AI is ! A self check out system that scans the item as you walk out isnt new people. Good GOD! You have seen it before on expressways vehicle pass. If toll roads can scan a vehicle moving at 70 miles an hour and know if you have a toll pass or not and to bill the license plate attached to the vehicle, then this is a lot simpler. It never seem to amazes me how daff people are and how the smarter people can easily outsmart the dumb and act as if old technology is new!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 THIS IS NOT WHAT AI IS!
