The auto replaced the horse. Between 1915 and 2006 the horse and mule population declined 63%. No need for horses. If we're the new horses then what happens? The US has 400,000,000 people and no need for 63% of the population. That means the disposal of 252,000,000 people or at the very best being dictated to how many children can be born. your right and these are machines built to purposed. which is what most automation is and will wind up being, why build a complex and un-demonstrated humanoid robot when you can build purpose built machines. right now there isnt a single "humanoid" robot actually doing labor, let alone autonomously.. we see lots of demonstrations which in most cases are impressive, but nothing beyond that yet. personally i think the "tech" mostly in terms of ai has alot more kinks to work out before it starting taking jobs where you cant build a machine for it..

@@Andrea-LovesYouStill yes but capitalism needs customers. If there's no workforce, there's no pay. No pay means no customers. Result, capitalism dies. So either all production will become state owned and productivity will be spread throughout the population via the government. Communism wins! ...or, the tech corporations get taxed humongously and the, now unemployed, population is paid a ubi from the state. Socialism wins. Either way, capitalism will lose all meaning. This may be OK as productivity will hockeystick, so we can all live like kings in a world of exponentially escalating resources. In such an unlimited world who needs markets to allocate limited resources? Who'd have thought socialism would win out in the end?

@Andrea-LovesYouStill There is a certain gullibilty of the general public and "AI" (it's machine learning). Something different is needed than transformer networks to take over. OpenAI lies about chatGPT's abilities, like 90th percentile on the bar exam... More like 60th since this is measured in respect to the retakers who failed. Basically everything they say has a caveat, along with all these companies. I think that the cost savings will have to get passed down - but that doesn't mean CEOs won't still profit insanely. Remember: reduced production costs and higher consistent quality means there will be lots more competition - thus driving prices down due to easy, cheap market availability of most products. Once a stable base price settles, it'll then be a game of brand recognition and loyalty. It's the CEOs of the most frequented brands that will become the wealthiest.

Also if it's using AI well then and will offer slightly lower fares if you're willing to share rides with other people in which case that probably will be the case, well then it'll be far less butt plug traffic out there and it's going to be a lot easier to get around and then plus you know when you factor in the cost of buying a car leasing a car and buying insurance and of course paying for the energy whether gasoline or electricity, well then if it's reasonably priced to get a robotaxi anytime you want, a lot of people will just simply be glad to have the extra income by not having to service all those other expenses having to do with owning an automobile. Satisfying work has given humans one aspect of _purpose_ also referred to as "something to do in life". If humans keep inventing ways to remove activities that give us _purpose_ in life, don't we lose interest in life? Without _purpose_ we quickly become bored, aimless then lethargic, and eventually lose all interest in living. A few movies have explored this issue such as Serenity (on the planet Miranda), and other shows that suggest AI becomes sentient and rises up against it's makers. Either way, these issues are what Malcolm expressed in Jurassic Park, "Your Scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should".

1. Robot workers will indeed reduce the real costs of goods due to reduced labor costs, BUT all governments have an explicitly inflationary monetary policy. This means that governments will simply print and spend even more money to counteract any deflationary forces that may arise. Your stuff is NOT going to get any cheaper. 2. Low quality goods are NOT mainly caused by the limitations of human workers. That is certainly a factor, but the main reason for low quality is consumers who demand ever-cheaper prices. Often the only way to do this is to use cheaper materials or processes, which leads to shoddy goods. You will never see the disappearance of cheap and low quality goods until consumers change their preferences.

People fail to realize they are allowed to exist today as mere peasants, working their 9 to 5 job, so that they can be milked like cows. The elite gain their wealth from miking these cows daily. Just as greedy elite turned to cheaper labor markets and discarded the Western labor force, so will the elite discard humans altogether as they tap into the cheapest labor yet, robots. Who will pay the universal basic income, the billionaires owning the robots? So far, billionaires have been more inclined to keep their money as they influence governments to take more control of populations, to thwart the inevitable uprising, like we see in China today.Someday, people will wake up and realize the utopia that is being built will not include them, just as their not included in the billionaires club now. Keep in mind that peasants consuming resources like food, water, and fuels will likely be discouraged or eliminated due to their wasteful nature of simply existing in the utopia. Don't be fooled, folks. If they describe a utopia that we will live in, it will be short-lived for the average Joe.

One major correction: Most of these robots disrupting current industries won't be "humanoid". Robots will be far, FAR more efficient if they are designed for a specific range of tasks. They will need to be MANY different shapes and sizes. Some will be flat like Roombas. Some will be insectoid or spiderlike. Some will be "dog"-shaped, like the ones from Boston Dynamics. Some will be simple boxes with wheels and a bunch of arms on top. Some will mimic other animals like dolphins or snakes or turtles. Many will just be aerial drones with various attachments to change their function as needed. Relatively FEW will be "humanoid". There are only 3 actual reasons to make a human-shaped robot: 1. To deceive people into thinking they are human. 2. To "replace" a loved one who is dead. 3. Sex. For literally ANY other task, there are LIMITLESSS other shapes and sizes that are FAR more efficient to use than "humanoid".

This is a serious exaggeration. We’ve had industrial robots since the early 1960s. People made the same kinds of claims this video makes back then. I’m still waiting for the “takeover “. No question robotics will keep improving, but we are not yet at any tipping point. Look how long Elon Musk is taking just to do fairly simple full self driving. More importantly, the abundance of rings will be to those who own it - the industrialist and the bankers. It certainly will not come to the workers. Industrial financial class , our top 1%, will increasingly question why they need to continue supporting all the other people call for lower population.

i wonder if we will be allowed to have robot free zones, where only humans are allowed to relax and let their hair down amongst other organic beings

of course, they will be called free range humans, a unique delicacy for the robots.

the only place I can picture that happening would be a (nude beach). I couldn't imagine a robot in a place like that.

Yeah. They're called holding cells, concentration camps, pits. Lotsa different choices. Wealthy and elite only have access. Sorry, greedy and power-stupid. Wealthy and elite is too glorifying. Human nature.
