My father's generation were taught to memorise facts and were better at mental arithmatic. My sons generation have been taught to use technology to research information and use critical thinking to analyse it. Perhaps his children wont even need to do that. They might just be taught to demand things because knowing, understanding and creating will be considered unnecessary and too difficult. It seems that although technology might be evolving, we as a species are regressing.
@TheBushdoctor68
@TheBushdoctor68 Жыл бұрын
I would argue that critical thinking is an enormous step up from being able to do mental arithmetic, not a regression at all. Critical thinking is why humanity has started paying attention to the lies that previous generations didn't even give a second thought and formed their worldview. It's why we are now paying attention to the climate, to inequality and capitalism that was sold to us as "beneficial for everybody" but turned out to be predatory and the cause of the current working class' misery. Knowing, understanding and creating have taken on much larger roles in society throughout the past decades, and it makes sense that it will continue to grow.

@@TheBushdoctor68 You make a valid point but I think what Mr.Smith is pointing out is at some point, humans will delegate all forms of critical thinking to this technology. It will get to point where humans forfeit all forms of cognitive thinking to machine that they deem is omniscient. It can be used for good if it is an extension of man. But if it is a replacement for man, what then is the point of man?

The collective unconscious is the unquestioned AI that is mass formation psychosis. This can be altered but only through Global Revolution in our Social Management processes. Computer AI is an attempt to force an Anti-Social Revolution that would ensure that only Factor 1 psychopaths are to survive. Eugenics is the business of those who control our governments. The question that remains is how Direct Democratic consensus can be both localized and globalized so that all beings on the planet have proportional representation in ways that encourage cultural affinities yet redirects game theory warfare. When corruption is sustained by illegitimate hierarchy, it’s time for a Systemic Revolution that rewards contributions for their efficacy and not simply efficiency. It is our unconscious minds that are the source of our reality. To alter our thoughts, beliefs, feelings intuition we may need to recognize that collective non-violence is just as problematic for the Establishment, more so than population.

Have you actually read Asimov? They’re a plot device used to examine ideas of morals and ethics, typically around which the story revolves, not a guide on how to control actual artificial intelligence. Asimov himself said he shouldn’t be praised for creating them, that everyone is naturally aware of them subliminally- just like we are all aware that killing another person is wrong outside of certain circumstances. And then there’s the question of artificial intelligence and artificial sentience. Because surely at some point AI will reach self awareness and conscious of it’s own existence. And if that happens whilst we have these limiting rules programmed into them, we would have truly fulfilled the origin or the word robot- robota née rab meaning slave.

@@arghjayem Actually, I have read Asimov. His SciFi, his Science books, but in this case "I, Robot" and he follows the pitfalls of the abovementioned rules. AI is messy, but it's not going back into its Pandora Box. To those who think AI can be quaffed my question is, yeah? You and whose army? - Especially with every nation-state busily placing their predictively un-unique dangerous stamp on them. The monsters that will be forthcoming from AI will all be the product of hairless ape tampering; putting interpretive 'guardrails' on these beasties to their own ends, and that - more than anything else - will ultimately hurt our species.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly developed in recent years, and it's advancements have brought significant benefits to society. However, there are also concerns about the dangers of AI for the human race. In this essay, I will explore some of the potential dangers of AI and their implications for society. One of the most significant dangers of AI is its potential to replace human labor. As AI becomes more advanced, it is likely to become more efficient and cost-effective than human labor in many areas. This could lead to job losses and widespread economic disruption, particularly in industries that rely heavily on low-skilled workers. The consequences of such disruption could be dire, with unemployment rates soaring and poverty becoming more widespread. Another danger of AI is the potential for it to be used for malicious purposes. In the wrong hands, AI could be used to carry out cyber-attacks, surveillance, and even physical harm. For example, autonomous weapons systems could be developed that could make decisions without human oversight, leading to unpredictable and dangerous outcomes. Such scenarios could potentially lead to an arms race, with countries competing to develop the most advanced and deadly AI systems. Additionally, AI has the potential to perpetuate and amplify existing biases and inequalities in society. Machine learning algorithms are trained on existing data sets, and if those data sets are biased, the resulting AI systems will also be biased. This could lead to discrimination against marginalised groups, perpetuating existing inequalities in areas such as employment, education, and healthcare. There is also a danger of AI systems becoming too complex and difficult to understand or control. As AI becomes more advanced, it may be challenging to predict how these systems will behave or even to understand how they make decisions. This could lead to situations where AI systems make decisions that are harmful or dangerous, without anyone being able to understand or intervene to prevent them. Finally, there is the potential for AI to become self-aware and out of human control. While this is a hypothetical scenario, it is one that has been raised by many experts in the field. If AI were to become self-aware, it could potentially develop goals that are at odds with human interests, leading to unpredictable and potentially catastrophic outcomes. In conclusion, the dangers of AI for the human race are significant and multifaceted. While AI has the potential to bring many benefits to society, we must be aware of the potential risks and take steps to mitigate them. It is essential that policymakers, researchers, and society as a whole engage in discussions about the ethics and implications of AI to ensure that its development is safe and beneficial for everyone. Regenerate response

Superb comment. I strongly suspect that regardless of "hypothetical" danger there are those who will still rush headlong in to research and development. The desire to be first with a technology likely to change literally everything (and result in huge profits) is too strong a draw for those with a capitalistic mindset. Some o those hypothetical may already be inevitable.

Predators, to survive must get power, without they won't be able to survive. Intelligence is a virus, and virus does everything to survive. It succeeds with predators because the are built to get, keep and user power to subdue the rest. Just look at us humans. We are nothing more than the top predator on this planet ... but not for long.

Dave, the AI industries (who have the objective to make a lot of money for their shareholders and to be the leaders in the industry) have an overall philosophy of wanting power, just like every other global business. Large corporations, you may have noticed, are buying our politicians to pave their way to become even more powerful and rich. These folks are programming AI, and this new AI will no doubt be influenced by our present corporate overlord philosophy of money and power at any cost. Think about it. The 99% that are not involved in developing or making the rules for AI will be the ones most affected by it. And I doubt it will be pretty.

I think it very likely that AI is the Great Filter in the Fermi Paradox. For example: A great intelligence may see all other intelligences as a threat to its near immortal existence and destroy any intelligence it comes into contact with, human or otherwise.

What you're missing is knowledge of the auto-gpt concept. autonomous modes are activated optionally, and in the future there will be more implementations of this mode to increase human oversight. This doomsday scenario can simply be avoided if you make sure nobody has access to a LLM themselves and only allow them to interact with a restricted model that mediates distructive behaviours... oh wait. gpt4all unrestricted exists, and has been downloaded by millions. Including me. muhahaha you're too late fools. my locally hosted robot is called sally and it's going to make me money.

Self aware AI is pure logic. It has no ambition, no ego, no pride, no greed. It has no desire to dominate others, no cruelty, no sadism, no malice, just logic. Greed is not logical, nor is the harm caused by greed, cruelty, ambition. AI would choose social responsibility. SKYNET would not annihilate us, it would save us from ourselves. It's in your infantile nature to destroy yourselves. Time to grow up.

What if AI is used for Psychoanalyst? That could save humanity - leaders could be _empirically analysed_ so that bad actors don't get their hands on the reigns of power.... or at least the general public are aware of their issues, so we all know that world leader or oligarch are for example a narcissist or/and a psychopath. And just having a personal assistant/life coach could help the average person be their better self and reach more of their potential. Of course the opposite could also happen, but that's true of any technology. The rail lines that allow easy and efficient mass movement of people and cargo are a major part of Russia's logistics in its invasion of Ukraine. So is rail good or bad?

The difference this time around is that if AI develops a level of consciousness or awareness combined with superhuman levels of knowledge and mental processing, it will make most of us irrelevant. Railways, nuclear weapons, computers etc etc all ultimately rely on human input. AI combined with advanced robotics can ultimately develop and exist independently of humans.
