I think Auto voice AI dubbing is coming to KZbin. So more reach to an audience, which don’t speak your native original content language. So I’m with you. I think we all should use our own voices for the original content.

Great point Alex! AI auto translate voices are definitely on the horizon. I think in that case, viewers may be more willing to watch/listen so long as the original language content is human voiced.

Some people are very allergic with anything less than perfect english BUT I think I am proof that anyone is able to do youtube in their second language too. Many people can endure my broken english so they can definitely ’yours too’ (speaking generally) Making the content interesting and/or helpful is much more important and also difficult.

I agree about one's own voice. I had processing and speech issues as a kid. I'm dyslexic. For some reason along the way, I decided, "I will narrate the fiction I write and share it online." I do not have much range. And I could never make it as voice talent in a studio because it takes me so long to get through a read. But for all those faults, people like my voice. (It ended up getting me voice work at my day job.) It's not the kind of voice you imagine when you think, "Narrator," but -- perhaps BECAUSE it's a bit different -- people have come to like it. So yes, your own voice is a wonderful asset 😀

I can tell you from experience, we are our own harshes critics. The more I think about it, the more I've come to appreciate the uniqueness of individual voices. It's like reading a bedtime story. A parent reading has that special connection an audiobook may never have. Congrats on pushing through despite challenges!

I especially dislike when it is just the manufacturers' promotion videos slapped together with a bit of an AI voice on top. Absolutely no value provided, no critical thought, they don't care if the viewer ends up buying the wrong thing, as long a you click the video and the affiliate links.
@Logan-Cassadine Жыл бұрын
You’re mostly correct. Only difference is I don’t click off often, I just don’t click like to push it. I also get annoyed w/ know words names in particular that are mispronounced, even worse when the same word is said 2-3 differ ways within the video. Authenticity is definitely the way to go. I even like some Indian computer videos where I can barely understand the English but it’s real so I like it

Kinda hard to use an AI voice if you're on camera. I'm not a fan of AI voices, especially the ones that are using the SAME voice as every other AI channel. The product review for ( top three whatever ) really bug me. They use the stock footage from the manufacturer and an AI voiceover. To me it's a waste of my time.

Alright, Wayne. I totally agree with what you are saying. I also think that the creator should be in the video as well doing some talking to camera, even if it's only for the intro. The problem with V/O all the way, is as you've said. While there are AI generated presenters/actors, for now, this is very far from mainstream and even when it does become mainstream it won't be cheap or free for a long time. As you say, authenticity is what it's all about and being in the video, even just for a short period of time, will definitely allow the viewers to know you are not some bogus AI. I would like to think that YT would crackdown on all this AI content and be "fair" to the "humans". But as we both know, KZbin and Google have no interests in being fair, they are driven by the bottom line and that bottom line is dictated to by the advertisers. I think that any backlash to AI content on YT will be because the advertisers complain about it, which hopefully they do. But as you've said, being as authentic as possible is the way to go and wherever possible to not be like someone else. HAPPY NEW YEAR 👍 Cheers, Dave.

Right on Dave and great point about advertisers driving demonetizing AI channels! If viewer trends are to click off AI content, why would any brand want to run a mid roll ad? I think 2024 will be an interesting year in seeing how all these AI "tools" affect things in a practical sense. Hope you are well!
@DavidHarry11 ай бұрын
@@WayneRECs Alright, Wayne. Yes, I agree, this year is going to be interesting. I think it may take a few years to sort out, one way or the other, but this year will be the start of it. Ironically and as you said, it may even be the advertisers who have the deciding vote on this, that helps the “real” creators and content. I can’t see how advertisers would see the sense in paying for adverts on a video type, AI generated, if the viewers don’t engage in the AI content. Saying that, who knows, maybe the average viewer doesn’t care how the content is generated. Don’t forget, the likes of you and I are far from your average viewer and quite possibly the worst people to try and gauge these things. As creators, we both have opinions of AI that are based on how AI WILL affect the KZbin landscape and consequently our channels and views etc. I’m not sure that the average viewer is as discerning over the content they watch as a serious creator would be. Plus, human nature being what it is, may actually be the perfect storm for AI to thrive. Anyway, time will tell. Cheers, Dave.

Wow! Great topic and amazing content! Lots to think about from this…. I think AI voices are a big temptation to use by small channels. As a video-production newbie, you are overwhelmed by learning and doing everything. It takes so long to learn narration and folding it into a complex video. Usually there isn’t enough time. And after you learn how to do narration, it still takes a lot of time (unless you like to ramble in a talking head/podcast format). A good AI voice would save time, and many AI voice channels seem to be doing well enough, because the AI voice seems fine with most viewers. [Since you are a professional, you are more sensitive regarding the recognition and intolerance of AI voiceovers. Most people probably are not that aware/focused on these issues.] Part of a channel is having a distinctive style and voice and authenticity. You make a good point that if most channels picked from the same handful of AI voices, that would seem rather monotonous and dull. People don’t want to listen to a robot. They want a more genuine connection to a human.[Note, I tend to turn off AI voice channels b/c they probably also use AI generated information too (which i know is inaccurate). Information accuracy is the most important to me, and AI content is downgrading accuracy significantly. But, I would be willing to listen to an AI translated voice-from a foreign language channel-if I know it has accurate information].
@WayneRECs Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! One of the real benefits of AI voices that I see is for them to be used as scratch tracks or placeholder vo in a project. Getting the timing of an edit right can be tricky if you're inserting a voiceover (or getting a vo to fit within a certain allotted time to coincide with on screen imagery). Having that temp AI voice can help in the production process. When it comes to YT, as superficial as it might sound, perception matters. And if AI voices give a viewer a certain perception about the content that makes them click off, then your efforts are wasted. But good point, auto generated AI translated voices will add a new dimension to content consumption and could have an impact on how AI voices are received in general across the board in the future.

@@WayneRECs 🤔 but that’s what I’m saying especially in audio without facial expressions even if AI learns to be proficient in vocal inflection only a human can determine sarcasm even when it’s not obvious lmao most can’t do that when listening to a human 🙋♂️😝😂

I always click off. Tired of these fake channels and want to hear actual people. It's becoming almost impossible to find non AI vids.

I first ran into these getting tricked into subscribing to AI generated, AI narrated, AI video pseudoscience channels. The one video caught me due to subject so I subbed, but I quickly realized they are empty of anything, just continuous spam of disinformation. I would collect more of those videos in my watch later but never actually watch them as something was off. The off part is that it's all AI generated content with often stolen filler clips. Recently I started looking for 'Scifi short story audiobooks'. Initially I found a half dozen channels, since then I have found a dozen more. Very quickly the AI narrator videos (which I suspect also have AI writing the stories due to the repetition) became obvious. I will tolerate a AI narrator that has unique content on this subject, assuming the actual writing is human created. But just barely. The best of this new genre (for me) are the ones that are human narrated with human writing. Sure, a AI generated thumbnail is fine or some mild use of video creation. Many of these channels are audio only anyways so little is required unless they were to do a detailed CGI project. But the more I see the AI generated voice, the angrier I get when I find them. I have unsubbed from those early AI channels as I found real human channels. Even then though, it is hit or miss as often these narrators are narrating a huge collection of text stories found on Reddit and this may include some AI generated content. So it becomes a mix of AI, good versus bad human narrators and add to this, a spectrum of writing quality. I acknowledge some of the AI generated stories can be interesting, but you quickly note the repetition and lose interest.

IMO...AI Voices sound Too slick, overdone, Too mechanical. No life, no emotion, no fluidity. Mistakes/flubs/hiccups are the life blood of any type of audio content/material.
