- ABOUT SCOTT PENBERTHY -
Scott is the Director of Applied AI at Google. In this role, he leads a team of AI engineers and PhDs who help VIPs reimagine the production of goods and services and how value is exchanged in free markets. His team applies current and upcoming AI technologies to materialize proofs of concept and drive long-term transformations.
Prior to this role, Scott was a Technical Director in the Office of the CTO, a group at Google dedicated to helping customers thrive in the world of cloud computing. Scott kept one foot in the AI labs of Silicon Valley, the other in Wall Street and board rooms. Demand skyrocketed and he was asked to build a team focused on AI.
Scott has a rich background in financial services and enterprise computing. He was recentlyManaging Director in the CEO’s office of PwC, leading a transformation of PwC’s technology from on-premise, waterfall computing to public cloud with devops. Scott has many raucous stories from selling public cloud amid the Snowden scandal; coordinating leaders across Europe, Asia and the Americas; debating regulation bodies and lawyers; aligning vendors, clients and partners on a common mission; and, finally, educating boards and accountants on the wonders of public clouds and AI. Before that Scott played his hand as CTO at several Web startups after rising from IBM Research to the IBM Chairman’s office in the 90’s.
Scott is a passionate triathlete and a proud father of two smart, beautiful daughters. Outside work, he believes in STEM education and preparing the world for a new blend of human and machines. Scott is a mentor in Udacity’s Machine Learning and Self-Driving Car NanoDegree programs. He’s an avid reader and loves studying history, economics and the eminent dead. Scott has a PhD in AI and Computer Science with multiple degrees from MIT and the University of Washington.

Hey Sanjay and Scott Been using Bard ai in the context as presented for some time. Bard has uncovered findings that specialists did not know or did not have the time to search. Further Bard found contraindications with drugs. I believe the challenge for the medical fraternity and this adoption resistance to Ai is due to the lack of education and understanding of 'use cases'. Prompt engineering should be mandatory in their basic training. Further the reluctance to Ai is likely due to governance, regional health guidelines and hospital policies plus the time poor nature of the specialists. Maybe Google or a business partner needs to set up medical data centres that obtain/ collect personal data via bloods, medical history, genomics and so on. Subsequently, prepare a report for the specialist. This would create precision and directed treatment. Currently it appears a 'hit or miss' approach. An excellent podcast indeed!!

You might be referring to the regular Google search. Dr. Penberthy talked about Med-Palm, which is a more robust system that has more layers to allow it to give more accurate results. Feel free to learn more at sites.research.google/med-palm/

@@TargetCancer Still bothers me that it is using systems developed by men/women who make mistakes, even in science….. for example: Drink Milk…. It is good for you, science proves it….. Don’t drink milk….. it causes cancer…… EAT Soy products…. Beneficial and lower chance of cancer…… don’t eat Soy, it can cause cancer. Go Carnivore….. makes you healthy, science proves it, Don’t go Carnivore, all that fat will kill you. I can find valid science papers on almost any topic that has other valid (real) science research done that contradicts the results. It makes me nervous to use a system (AI) that could go off of faulty “data” that was programmed into maybe even Med-Palm by researchers that had an unknown or known bias. If it worked as it should, yes it would be fantastic….. but……. I just don’t trust our systems or knowledge or even integrity at this point! Take the COVID shot….. it will save you from Covid….. I got Covid even after the shot and now I also have cancer that I feel was instigated by getting the shot. After the shot, I had progressive problems happen that were not there before it and now I am on the breast cancer road to recovery. Sorry….. I don’t trust the medical field any more, at least not “some of it.” Do I think AI can do better than mankind? ONLY if what we are feeding it is correct and if the data comes from us, then there is no way it can be perfect.

This is great technology. How does the average patient receive the benefit of AI analysis? How does the average person find a doctor who uses AI technology? Is this covered by insurance? Let’s get practical.

Is there going to be a way that we can constructively sue doctors who refused to use AI and hurt their patients because they’re negligent. I’d be very interested in seeing the standards of care elevated, and that if specialists refuse to participate, they get penalized. This sounds like a legal specialty all its own.

A system that predicts the impact of a drug or therapy is helpful for drug manufacturers that can now find their correct patients more quickly and at a lower cost.

We also know that God is Omnipotent, for He creates out of nothing and He has no beginning and has no end. That means, our love is but a shadow of God's Love. True love looks around to see who is in need of your help, your smile, your possessions, your money, your strength, your quality time. Love forgives and forgets. Love wants for others what it wants for itself. Take note, love works in conjunction with other spiritual forces such as faith and patience. We should let the Word of God be the standard of our lives not AI. If not, God will let us face AI on our own and it will cast the truth down to the ground, it will be the cause of so much destruction like never seen before, it will deceive many and take many captive in order to enslave them into worshipping it and abiding in lawlessness. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end.
