Kick a toaster, celebrate the human spirit. I'm not sure I was expecting much better honestly, current-gen AI without being fine-tuned is basically an automated Google search and its Google-Fu is yellow-belt level, if you know how to seek out information yourself you can do it faster and in a more methodical way. Totally unrelated but I'm currently in Greece and I checked out the numismatics museum in Athens, you folks gotta see their collection if you ever get a chance, it's absolutely astounding! I only wish the trade was legal here, it would've been cool to support the museum by buying some bronzes to take home but that's a big no-no so I'll have to wait till I'm back in Freedomland to gather up some of the really interesting ones I saw. Thanks as always for your videos, they're always a delight

Chat GPT is always like a desperate student making things up on an exam, lol. But theoretically, AI can be handy for spotting common fakes by photo. Thinking about trying my hand at it when I have some idle time

While AIs do know a lot, they aren't really encyclopedias, and trying to use them that way will yield disappointment. What AIs are currently good at are things like summarization, data extraction, coming up with ideas for things, and being "creative" rather than "smart". If you ask them for facts, you may get fiction - that's actually a byproduct of what these AIs were originally built to do: write fiction. They are getting better as we go along, and this fiction orientation is being addressed, but currently they are not calculators and they are not encyclopedias. They are best at things like idea generation, where "being right" doesn't really matter. They're great at writing first drafts, but you never want to go with a first draft, you need to edit it into a second or third draft, and they can't help with that. They're super good at writing poetry. Here's a summarization of my post in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet: ----- Though vast their knowledge, AIs are not wise, Nor encyclopedias to be relied. Their strength lies in distilling truths concise, In weaving tales, and sparking thoughts inside. For facts they offer, fiction may arise, A legacy of stories they once spied. They learn and grow, with each new sunrise, Yet calculators and tomes, they cannot hide. In crafting drafts, their talents brightly shine, But polish them yourself, for second sight. With words that dance, they weave a rhythmic line, And poetry's soul takes joyful flight. So use them well, these tools of modern art, For inspiration's spark, and a creative start. ----- I mean, the ability to summarize things in the form of a sonnet isn't something we used to be able to easily do. How valuable it is might be questionable, but it IS something that I wasn't able to do (or wouldn't do) before, but now can do at the drop of a hat. That's the sort of thing that AIs are good for. AI gives us new powers, we just haven't figured out what they are. People don't fully understand that yet, and are still thinking of them like search engines or a CD containing Microsoft Encarta. They aren't those things, they are something else entirely.

@@dububro I gave the LLM "gemma-2-9b-abliterated" (my current fave local model) the following prompt: Please summarize the following text in square brackets as an unrhymed "beat" poem: [I respectfully disagree that they are "super good at writing poetry". ChatGPT seems incapable of writing unrhymed poetry, for example.] It returned the following: ----------- Respectfully, I differ. Super good? ChatGPT, a caged bird singing in structured verses. Unrhymed fields remain untamed. ----------- I don't know. I'm snapping my fingers. 🙂

Sadly, it seems like AI-Generated content gets millions upon millions of views, by sheer volume of content generated. Numismatics is too much of a wonderful science to receive such lowly treatment

I agree. AI is not at a level to replace humans or even close. It also learns from the Internet and we that is a source of 100% truth. That was a joke. We have tried it at work for code or scripts but it will often provide inaccuracies. It can help you get started but you still need a professional to correct and complete the work.
