The verb SER is also used when you talk about event locations. For example: where is the party? - ¿Dónde es la fiesta? or Where is the concert? - ¿Dónde es el concierto? . But this is only if you are asking about the location of the event. If for example you get the house of a friend especting to be a party and you find nothing and ask "Where is the party?" in this case you are not asking about the location of an event, you are asking like "What the heck happened here?", so in this case you would say in spanish "¿Dónde está la fiesta?"

that's the lamest reason I've ever heard to learn our sordid language, read the Quijote or at least some poems by Bécquer, or Alfonsina Storni, not Despacito, never Despacito. If you're into Spanish music, maybe some Mecano, Miguel Bosé, or LatinAmerican bands such as Soda Stereo, Virus, Tan Biónica is brillant (Argentina), but you have some fantastic Mexican singers like Luis Miguel, el chaparrito Cristian Castro, Juanes, to name a few... Alejandro Sanz. Even Enrique Iglesias, Despacito sucks balls!

I am in England but have traveled in Spain quite recently. I am so eager to be able to have a conversation. Dr Evans your teaching is encouraging because you explain why and how forms are used without assuming the Student already knows it and that is so useful when you are learning.
@mariteacher4 жыл бұрын
Very well explained! An additional comment: In Spanish you often use "estar" to describe someone´s identifying feature just to be polite and not to hurt their feelings. For example, you can say that " un hombre está gordito". You can say "es"; it is grammatically correct, but it sounds impolite. We also use "estar" to describe babies and children´s appearance, probably because they change very quickly: "mira el bebé qué grande está", o "la niña está muy alta para su edad". In theses cases, both "ser" and "estar" are as good .

I'm a native Spanish speaker from Argentina, and also an English-Spanish translator. This guy is an excellent teacher, he's very passionate about his subject matter and makes clear, valid points while giving explanations. It's important to note, though, that in many parts of Latin America, "tú" is replaced by "vos" (2nd person singular). This is common in Argentina, Uruguay, parts of Colombia and many of the smallest countries in Central America. Also, sometimes both "ser" and "estar" are possible, with sublte shades of meaning, i.e. "estás loca" (you are crazy, you're sounding or acting crazy) vs "eres loca/sos loca" (you are a crazy person). Also "eres/sos linda" (you are pretty) vs "estás linda" (you're looking good!). Anyway, these are very top of the drawer distinctions, follow this teacher's explanations and you'll be ace in Spanish, hasta la vista!

Finally found a teaching system for Spanish that matches how I learned German 40 years ago. Thank you! It'll take time to learn and teach the ear, but great set of videos!

I came across this channel/class only last night and I'm absolutely loving it. He makes it so much easier to learn Spanish. Of course I have my cuaderno and bolígrafo taking notes. He's the best, look no further. Gracias señor

You are THE BEST Spanish Teacher I have ever learned spanish from. I have tried to learn spanish on an app, on KZbin & in a classroom; It was difficult for me to maintain the lessons from all of them. I LOVE UR method, of using the charts to simply spanish in order to teach & help me maintain what I learn from U. It's magnificent. Thank you, I'm so happy I came across U.

Great video, when I was learning english I didnt understand how one verb could mean two different things, but not until today have I consider that to english speakers It would also be a hard concept to understand how one verb splits into two.
