Dear Nathan, I conducted this production and I can say that it was the best Zeffirelli's Aida of ever! We had extraordinary moments in Busseto...it was a miracle! I am glad you like this!

This is not the heroic Radames of Corelli, but it's the most loving, the most intimate Celeste Aida I have heard. He really sings it as a love song, and sings it as if he were whispering it in his beloved's ear. And that final pianissimo is breathtaking.

As written in the score ("morendo" at the end of the aria).

Bravo! This is by far the best interpretation of this aria-at least comparing to the ones i have heard. So sweet, gentle, with a rare male sensitivity and beautiful control. So different to other "macho" tenors who shout and sing a romantic aria as if it was a triumphant marching song! Wonderful, generally balanced presence by this handsome tenor

This performance, dating from the centenary of the composer's death, is a delight....all young, fresh voices, and beautifully staged. True, Zeffirelli sometimes follows Mae West's old dictum "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful" but the production is beautiful and the singers are all superb. Scott Piper is especially fine, and it is wonderful to hear the final B-flat "morendo" as written. We don't often get the chance to see a handsome young tenor as Radamès who can both sing and act!

It's called impartial selection. Especially in an opera, it is more important the sound of a person than the looks. Thus the better singer wins... which is why in some operas you will find a black father, a white mother, an asian daughter, and a hispanic son but their voices!!

Nah. But he did cheat on his wife.

His voice sounds opaque, he lacks squillo, he is not the best tenor, he lacks the necessary strength to play this role, and no one has ever given the final note like the great Franco Corelli.
