I don't feel the music fits the video very well.

I think it fits perfectly. The first part of the song is the two friends reflecting on their life spent together. I love the cut to when they were young alongside the line, "What a life that we have lived." Then, the second part slowly ramps up to the ascension. This part of the video can also be taken metaphorically; they are approaching death, having both seen it before, but now it comes for them.
