When I was 5 a woman tried to drown me by throwing me in the deep end of a pool. She stepped on my hands when I tried to climb out. A little boy my same age dived in and showed me how to dog paddle to the shallow end. This song always reminds me of the incident but not in a bad way. It reminds me of how strong I am. How I swim instead of sink. It is a powerful song. I spin and weave, make costumes and masks so I fell in love with every aspect of this video. I love the symbolism.

When I discovered this song, I was in a very difficult place in my life, in a relationship where I often felt used and ignored. It wasn't overtly malicious, but there was a level of cruelty that can come from others stuck in the depths of their own despair. This song has always makes me feel empowered though, and there have been multiple times it has helped me get to a mental place where I could stand up for and advocate for myself.
@BlackShardStudio Жыл бұрын
"there was a level of cruelty that can come from others stuck in the depths of their own despair" as a nearly lifelong sufferer of depression, this is so true, and one of the hardest things to overcome. Emotions are coercive. They imperceptivity color your experience and shift the boundaries of what feels reasonable or unreasonable. When we hurt, we are overtaken by reactiveness to anything that triggers that pain, and our emotions tell us to hit back. Friends and loved ones who know each other well often know right where to hit. Learning to recognize when emotion has clouded your thinking is a skill that must be honed for just about everyone, but for those with depression it is made significantly more difficult by that condition's uncanny ability to convince us we are "finally" seeing things clearly. Learning to communicate your internal state and take the proper steps to care for yourself without hurting others in the process is a long and difficult process, but one that makes life immeasurably better in the long run.

The voice is stunning and the lyric works like a passage between the world above the water surface and the second under it. It is mesmeric and sounds as chanting a magic formula in some way. I loved this masterpiece, the costumes, the representations of what the music want to share and of course the choice of music to have a video. I will watch some more times to understand all the scenes on the lyrics context... when i listened to the music without video, I imagined that "Drag me down underwater" would have been made in someplace in the water and someone pushing Shireen to underwater...but, it would be too simplory, the idea of the ropes grabing the band and her is cool, cause that simbolic way to transmit an indea is their charm. There's something about this song that I hadn't noticed until seeing this video. At the moment the ropes began to slither, the imagery struck me with a Tool vibe and I suddenly realized that the intro to this song has a Tool vibe - and I mean that in the most flattering way. Obviously, neither the song (well, the underlying rhythm does, but...) nor the imagery continues in that vein - and I mean that in the most flattering way. Annicke could be forgiven if the costumes/designs in this video out-shined the music/singing, but she seems as adept at her side job as at her day job. Kudos to the entire team for creating an artistic music video, bereft of disposability.
