As a Catalan i can confirm you got the montjuïc pronunciation correct! Actually is the first time i heard someone from outside saying it right, i'm gonna cry

How close is it to French? It reads and sounds french!

@@gajible9784Catalan is actually pretty close to french. I am french and when I went to Barcelona I was surprised to understand a vast majority of Catalan (at least in writing) even if I couldn't speak anything to save my life.

@@metacosmos omagad no, that's not something I would ever do, those are pretty proud people. Won't even say they're Spanish either, that's a pretty spicy take given what happened in their recent history 😅

The race organisers even locked the cars in a stadium where the teams were set up and threatened to seize them for breach of contract if the drivers refused to race, they have blood on their hands

I still find it crazy that the F1 mechanics were the ones who went around the circuit to bolt all the barriers properly.

It has to be said that Jacky Ickx has mellowed a lot since then ... and is now a very different person than the fiercely competitive young man he was in the 1960s and 70s. Still active and in good health at age 78 ..

I mean when your not competing anymore and just chilling you should mellow out.

@@rexthewolf3149 Exactly. And in the case of Jacky Ickx, his current day personality has also been shaped by his numerous trips to the remotest areas of Africa. He has become very philosophical, and doesn't recognize the younger version of himself anymore ...

Ickx has always been mellow, I think there's a misconception about him. He has been involved in several terrible accidents as well and I think he doesn't like talking too much about his original perceptions about safety.

Regarding the Spanish GP - the planned alternating arrangement was between the Circuit de Catalunya and the Valencia Street Circuit (the one that hosted the European GP), but it fell through and the Valencia circuit quickly went into disrepair (some sections are left to rot). And a sidenote here: during the small break in the 80's there were plans for a street circuit in Fuengirola (a resort town near Malaga) to host the Spanish GP until Bernie was convinced to host the race at the then newly built Circuito de Jerez. And this circuit's remoteness and lower attendance as a consequence was the reason why Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona was built

There were rumors that Montjuic would return for either the 1986 or 1987 Spanish Grand Prix, with the only change being the addition of a chicane before the "Death Jump"(Estadio and Rasente corners), but sadly, never went through and the Spanish Grand Prix moved to Jerez.

Unfortunately, even during the Safety Revolution of the Early-Mid 70’s, accidents still happen. Rest In Peace to the 4 spectators who passed away in the crash.

When I first heard of this shameful race weekend, I thought, 'forget Indy 2005, for the shambles that was, nobody died that weekend, Spain 1975 wasn't so lucky. It's far worse than that."

as you show in your excellent reconstruction , Montjuic is dangerous because there are so many trees and light poles around. The only way to turn Montjuic safe, at least for formula ford, is to fill it with chicanes like Monaco and turning it so slow as Monaco is.

Do we know why the race was stopped? If that seems an odd question, I realise a lot of people feel races should always be stopped if there's a fatal accident, but that's not automatic even in the modern era (e.g. Le Mans 2013) and it certainly wasn't normal practice in 1975. Was it due to concerns about crowd control? Were the teams demanding that the race be stopped? Were the drivers calling for it (either by radio if they had it, or by gesticulating as they passed the pits?)

Technically one whole point doesn’t qualify as points either; points being plural, and meaning more than one.
