Hello from Irvine California. I think it’s great to have native English speakers to teach English. My kids learned mandarin here in California and I was very picky about where the teachers came from because I wanted them to speak without an accent. When they learn at a young age they will have perfect English, no accent. My kids now teenagers and fluent with no accent.🎉

I think it probably better to hire the Chinese from the north as they tend to speak better Mandarin than people from the south, which usually have accents. If you can hire someone originally from Beijing, that would be the best because they are able to speak the best Mandarin besides their local dialect.

I've had a 'real' career (photographer) and my parents were teachers, so it's genuine. Where do you think the best city to choose would be? Hey, I really don’t mean teachers are not talent people 😂just saying if don’t know what to do for life, and want to travel, teaching in China is the best option. My advice would be if you like big cities go to the first tier cities, like Beijing Shanghai, Guangzhou Shenzhen. I like Shenzhen. Or if you like small cities, Hainan province is great and with a beach vibe

I taught in China before the laws changed some time ago. So usually to get a legal work visa you need to have a bachelor's degree. But as far as I know it also depends on the province and city. Some are more strict on this, some are less. You can try to contact some well established agencies, they can help you with the details

Generally you either get a TEFL certificate before applying, or you go through a recruiting agency that gives you a TEFL cert. It's only a 120 hour certification so it's hardly a teaching license, but it's a good way to get your foot in the door for teaching internationally. I dunno if Canto or German have the same kind of support network for minimally-certifying teachers, English is in kinda a unique position as a language that basically anyone can benefit from learning, so the demand is basically inexaustible.
