The most obvious reason for the difference between marine boot camp and this is that the Air Force Academy is a 4 year University and they're getting degrees. Marines in the boot camp videos enlisted out of high school and are shooting bad guys overseas within the year end. So obviously if you're going to train for 4 years (AF Academy) vs 3 months (Marines), they have to make it liveable. And since you're going to be an officer one day, they're more observant and respectful of you.
@MrPoloseason6 жыл бұрын

I don't think people understand how hard it is to get into any sort of military academy. For example, West Point's admission rate is 9% and I'd assume that the Air Force Academy is similar in competition rates. These kids have to work 10 times as hard as their counterparts in high school and even extending into middle school as far as academics and extracurriculars. It's not easy at all, and so in many ways, I feel like people discredit them because they don't enlist first. It's not fair to them at all, because they need to work a lot harder a lot earlier to get here in the first place. Sacrificing your childhood years by breaking your back in school is worth as much recognition and respect.
@GulfVet2135 жыл бұрын
Great point! These people are jealous. They partied too much in High School while these cadets were actually studying.
@charon_lix5 жыл бұрын
It's funny i think a lot of people don't know that any Bachelor's degree works for admission into the airforce. You don't need to get into a top military academy. The only reason these kids are doing it is for the small rank boost they get. Not to mention it's the same rank boost normal students get for completing 60 credit hours or something like that

These videos barely show what they actually go through for the four years. I bet most of you that make fun of this would never get accepted to USAFA, Annapolis (USNA), West Point (USMA), CG Academy (USCGA) nor the Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) as you have to have be great academically, physically and mentally able to handle the stress. Most people don't have a clue about what it takes to get an appointment to a service academy. The application process is extremely rigorous and highly competitive. You need at least one congressional nomination from a U.S. Congress representative or U.S. Senator. You have to be an exceptional student with a high GPA and SAT/ACT scores. You have to be athletic and in excellent health. You have to be a person of strong character with leadership qualities. Even if you check all of these boxes there's no guarantee you'll get an appointment.

if only all service academies had Marine Corps Drill Instructors...
@HeyItzScotch8 жыл бұрын
Marines are grunts. Meaning they aren't very smart. Their training requires them to be able to perform any mission required disregarding their individual thoughts on the tactics/strategy. They aren't trained or educated like officers, they're just their to do the heavy lifting for the military thinkers.
@matthew5628 жыл бұрын
That's a negative. The Marines are the invading conventional force in a war scenario. That is why they are a small branch that can supply themselves with an air/ground task force and be anywhere in the world in 6 hours. Also, there are officers in the Corps that strategically plan and navigate how the Marine Corps wins battles. The only reason why the Marine Corps can be this swift and effective is through the immediate obedience and willingness to orders from all levels of Marines, no matter the rank, because discipline was instilled in them by drill instructors in San Diego, Parris Island, or Quantico.
@HeyItzScotch8 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying there aren't officers in the Marines, but to be an Officer you go through different training than Private-Sergeants rank personnel. All the things you listed are what conventional "grunts" do in War. It's the technicians, engineers, and higher educated officers/soldiers/personnel (both military and political), who upkeep military technology and tools; and ultimately decide and make the orders for the boots on the ground. Without them, basic military units would still be fighting with sticks and stones. Marines can win or lose wars. Air-force has changed the fundamentals of War.
@matthew5628 жыл бұрын
Well what i was talking about is the Marine Corps in general, grunts and pogs. We all have the same attitude for our jobs, whether its infantry or admin, and that is what makes the Marine Corps different and unique from the other branches. But the main reason why we have this attitude is because of the drill instructors in boot camp instilled discipline to the recruits. Officers and enlisted are gung ho about everything and i guess what im trying to say is that a Marine with the same mos as another service member will more than likely be better than that service member at the same job
@HeyItzScotch8 жыл бұрын
Marines have one job. And it's to follow orders. I'm not doubting the toughness of Drill Instructors or the Marine Corp but their training proves that they aren't meant for deep individual critical thinking or individual planning. They're trained to follow, follow, and follow. Like I said soldiers/personnel with other duties and other training don't go through Drill Instructor style training because they aren't meant to be war dogs. Engineers, High rank officers, and non-military personnel go through their own training because they are a War's directors, not its front-line actors. You can be a warrior without going through drill instructors

This is not Air Force Basic Training haha this is the academy. Just had to say it because people were confused in the comments. While this training looks great, it’s not what the enlisted side go through. I went through enlisted Air Force Basic training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas and it was COMPLETELY different than this. While I respect what these guys do, this doesn’t look near as hard as enlisted basic. We didn’t have two person bedrooms, we had open bay barracks just like the other branches. One important thing to note is that our MTI’s were NOT nice. These instructors seemed to be half of what ours were. We also didn’t get all that time to get ready in the mornings. These cadets seem to get away with a lot more than we ever could in enlisted basic training. However, I wanna thank everyone for there service. These guys still have an important job, even if their training isn’t near as stressing.(I mean they are becoming officers so there job comes with plenty of responsibility) so, much respect to them. PS if anyone is curious what Air Force Basic is like for the enlisted side, search for BMT or Air Force Basic Military Training. It was one of the most memorable times of my life and I will always remember the experiences I had.

The Air Force goes back and forth between being a corporation and a military branch. Air Force individuals are expected to be self-motivated, rather than responding out of fear. Now, this video shows the first day of training of future officers, not enlisted. These people are college graduates so they shown some discipline, and they are older than enlisted recruits out of high school.

+bigbobgotu - Wow!! FINALLY a good response!! Actually...PJ training is among the toughest in the military...no Bullshit! PJ's dont just splint a broken arm or put on a fucking bandaid. You have jump school, AF survival school, plus other training which takes about a year and a half...that's why you must enlist for 6 years! People don't know about AF Special Ops...and the fact that its more grueling than people know. People talk about basic training. Marines is 13 weeks!! Great...good for them. But don't think that you're better than anybody else because you boot is longer. I'll shake your hand, but I'm not going to respect you more. I respect anybody that raises their right hand to take the oath! I respect you more when you graduate from boot, basic, or whatever you wish to call it! And...I'll respect you more than that if you deploy in a theater of operations! I have...just to let you know. Hey...I'm not some 18 year old talking shit who's never put on the uniform. I'm proud of my service...don't disrespect it, and I won't disrespect yours!!!
