What a superb video. Brilliant explanaation and really well demonstrated, this has filled in a few gaps for me and I can now see "the point' of training with the Jo, up to now I'm always reticent.

For me using the jo in this way allows me to feel the partners extention in a much more exaggerated manner, really helpful as most people are larger and heavier than me.

Why? it's a drill; as was very clearly explained in the video. If it was "defending against a thrust" then we'd be looking at this from an entirely differemnt veiwpoint. Again, why is it 'ridiculous'? Please explain.

@@nikosskeptikos6295 At the moment you are pulling back Jo 40 cm behind your body axis to "load " for the thrust you have a frontal attack incoming right into your face.
