I am back with another author routine attempt! In this one, I am trying out the writing routine of Dan Brown. I tried his 4AM writing (& pushup??) routine, and got was it a memorable one (my arms are still sore as I type this hahaha). It was an interesting writing experiment and I'm glad I tried out Dan Brown's very productive writing routine. I did get a lot of my novel written! Did I love waking up at 4am or doing 30 total push ups? Not as much 😅
Thank you so much for watching and I hope you enjoy it! Here are some other writing routines in the series:
I tried Hayao Miyazaki's creative routine ☁️🖋️ • I tried Hayao Miyazaki...

As a student I've tried Dan Brown's routine as well (for studies not writing). At the beginning, getting 7 hours of work done before noon was incredibly satisfying. Think about it, half the day behind you and you've made so much progress. Brownie points, you've done a good amount of physical work as well. But then you begin missing the late-night hangouts and slack away. I think that just says a lot about his passion for his craft.

Something I've found with routines is if you know yours works, build from there! Forcing yourself to be a morning person when you know you're a night owl and have the ability to be able to work at night is probably not ever going to be productive because you've already found the time you're most efficient. Maybe a fun thing would be incorproating parts of some of the routines into your own schedule! PS: I second the request to see more of your own writing routine!!

Okay, I have actually had coconut oil and butter in my coffee before. It definitely also is supposed to go in the blender, and it makes it kind of frothy! I think it's pretty good, I literally forgot that was a thing I used to do, these days I typically (unhealthily) pour a packet of hot chocolate into my coffee and call it good. (I don't remember if I also perhaps put a bit of cocoa powder in the butter coffee? I should ask my roommate XD)

Yes, I think it is so good to try out new things every once in a while, but then when you figure out what works for you, you've gotta just stick to it lol. I used to beat myself up for not waking up early enough, but you know what? I don't have a job where I have to be anywhere in the morning so why force myself to be up? Right now my routine as an academic looks like this: Wake up at 9:30 a.m., make coffee and read fiction, take a shower and get dressed for the day, write/research from roughly 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (using 25 min. pomodoros with one longer break in there for lunch), after 3:00 p.m. come all of my other tasks and I just do those until I can't focus anymore or I have to be somewhere such as office hours or teaching a class. My struggle right now is to be firm when asked for meetings or seminar times that I am only available after 2 p.m. at the earliest to protect my writing time...but that still seems a little too much lol. I'm also bad at saying no.

I winced for you here Push ups are too hard. I have always found them hard, and noticed most females struggle with them. I think sit ups are easier for us. Maybe see if Anne Rice had a night owl routine. She had a home chef so might be nice if you can order gluten free takeaway. I know she wrote in her pyjamas ( flannel nightgown) and drank hot coffee...I can't remember how she kept it hot...oh she used teacups, rhats right. Can you tryyyyy coffee? There's gottabe some kind of coffee you like? Also eome people put coconut oil in their coffee as it is nicer than black coffee but enables autophagy in a fast. ( Where's milk would prevent autophagy) Though Dan had his after a smoothy so must have been the mtc oil or something, as the reason why he chose coconut oil or just from experience he liked it's effect that way. Anyway...maybe coffee gives you a headache. I can't drink tea for that reason. Night owl writer routine next time 😅 🫖☕
