I'm really compelled by the fact that you're such cinnamon bun, a being of light, fluffiness and coziness but your favourite song is the summoning, a song that seemed to have come from the very depths of Tartarus 😂

Bellingen looks so lovely! Thanks for sharing with us, Christy! We have literary festivals in my area, but nothing like this in my actual town. That's really sweet that members of the community volunteered and opened their homes to the authors too. Beautiful area, and it looks like you had a great time and it went well! Might be time for me to do a re-read of A Year in Tokyo too ^_^

Hi Christy! This is my first time commenting, I first came across your content since I’m a bit of a Virginia Woolf fangirl and your video on her routine popped up in my feed. I’m a composer and get up early each morning to find regular time to create/work on commissions, and I often watch your author-routine videos when I’m making my morning coffee so that if feels someone else is getting up and working with me as well! But it was only upon watching this video that I realised just how personally invested I’ve become in your career journey. I couldn’t help but smile as you spoke about each individual new challenge offered up by your work at the writer’s festival, and I felt so happy for you when you got through each one so well. I know this will be the first of many such opportunities for you so it feels so special that you share these moments with us! I love the community vibe of this festival too. As part of my work I’m now getting more public speaking jobs myself for orchestral concerts, including having to host an interview/panel discussion at a concert earlier this year which is not worlds away from the kind of things you’re doing here, so once again I feel like we’re working in parallel and I totally get the particular brand of nervousness that come before doing these things :P Anyway, all that is to say that I really appreciate your content and thank you for putting it out there. I’m sure I’m one of many creatives in this community who feel like we’re travelling on the same path, even though we’re in different disciplines! Thank you ❤

First to comment!!!!!!!!!! I finished the first book of my fallen series in my notebook, I needed a break after the ending left me physically and emotionally drained! now I'm typing it up and working on the second book in my notebook. I like to write by hand first before I type it up in google docs. I've got 68897 words in the words count in my word count so far, only started chapter 21.

Hi Christy! Love your videos. As a fellow author I agree with your observation about many fantasy/scifi novels where the women are not friends or are just adversarial. I don't get it either. When I decided to write about heroines instead of heroes, once thing I unconsciously did was create many female friendships in my fantasy novels. I work with small publishers, though someday I hope to be published by a mainstream publishing house. My novels (I am not asking you to read them) are The Bardess of Rhulon, The Bastard Sorceress, Gate of Souls and Tree of Bones from 'A Familiar's Tale' series. They are full of female friendships along with magic and other fun things. Good writing to you and stay creative!

Hello Christy! Well done for your job at the writers festival ☺️ the house at your host’s was so gorgeous with all windows and forest outside. I have never thought before about Hermione having no female friends in HP… this is a fascinating topic!! I’m planning on re reading the books this year for the 25th anniversary; but now that I try to remember, girls are indeed a bit jealous or mean to her. Good luck for project teacup ☕️ I’m hoping to see it in bookshop here in Edinburgh soon ❤️

Lovely video! I would really like to go to a literary festival sometime! I do have one point to argue though. While I get the point you are making with it, Hermione and Ginny do have friends. They are really good friends with each other, to the point that Hermione gives Ginny advice on how to get Harry's interest (which does kinda lose on the Bechdel test). Hermione is friends with the other girls in Gryffindor, just not as close as with Harry and Ron. And the whole reason the group meets Luna is because she is friends with Ginny. You just don't see much of these girls hanging out with each other without the guys because it's all from Harry's perspective. But, to be fair, the girls in HP have very few female friends in comparison to their male friends, and there are many instances in stories when girls (like Princess Leia or most Disney princesses) have no female friends. Anyway, beautiful video! Would really like to see the rainforest area sometime!
