I did that trip a couple of years ago on the Glorious - a totally unforgettable experience. We'd booked months in advance but were lucky to get fantastic weather. We saw puffins too - only few, but they are starting to come back after all the rats that were brought over years ago were destroyed. It really is a special place. Lovely to see it again.

Hi Natalie. Yes it's an amazing place. We saw some puffins on the water but I wasn't quick enough with my camera 😉

Hello! Ian Ailsa Craig ? Where is that? It has become a routine for me to look up your videos these days. What a wonderful island. I can see at a glance that the lack of human intrusion has made it a paradise for birds. There are lots and lots of Northern Gannet flying around, with black tips on both wing feathers. My favourite puffins also seem to inhabit the island. A wonderful adventure. At first I didn't see Meg, so I thought she was away. No, there she was! Happy to see your sweet little buddy again today🥰🥰🥰

Hi June! Yes, it is an amazing place and has to be experienced to be believed. We saw some puffins on the water but I was too slow with my camera to get some photos 😒 Thank you for your support and good wishes from us 🤗🙋♂🐶

Hi Iain, Hi Meg, absolutely fantastic, I never realised you could get on to Ailsa Craig. I thought it just a huge rock. I certainly didn’t realise there were buildings on it! All the best guys 😀🥾⛰🏴

Thanks Dave, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it's a fascinating place with plenty of history. I'd like to go back on a calm winter's day when all the bracken has died back! ATB, Ian and Meg 🙋♂🐶

Cheers Simon. If you're up this way some time it's well worth the £40 for the boat trip. The crew pointed out the various birds as we circled the island. Best regards to you and the family. Ian and Meg 🙋♂🐶

Another great video, Ian. Congratulations! 😍😍Our Annie would never go up there. Too many ferns - she is terrified of ticks 😁. I suppose flying a drone there is out of the question in the summer - there are so many nesting birds...
@IanTupmanOutdoors5 ай бұрын
Hi Bart! Many thanks for your kind words. I doubt the RSPB would be happy about drone flying. And the birds are quite aggressive when you walk up onto the top and your drone would probably be attacked. As there is no livestock on the Craig I doubt there are any ticks. Neither Meg nor I had any on us when we returned. A calm autumn day would be a good time to go when the bracken has died back. All the best. Ian

This is a off tangent but when I was growing up in the 1960s my Father who was a keen gardener spoke about Ailsa Craig Seed Potatoes is it possible Potatoes did originate from this Island ? The Island and it's name always intrigued me during my teenage years . Great video interesting and enlightening .

Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. A quick Google search brings up Ailsa Craig salad tomato but I can't find any references to seed potatoes. I suppose it's possible that when the lighthouse was manned, the crew grew their own potatoes on the flat ground adjacent to the lighthouse but that's only a guess.

Wow. Cracking wee island lan and what a day for it. 😎 I've always wondered what that island looked like. Impressive old fog horn. Other side of the island looks like Bass Rock down our way.

Hi Sue. Aye, it was a cracking day and well worth waiting for the good weather. It's been pretty good since so I guess there'll have been plenty folk over there to flatten the bracken! Can't see Ailsa Craig at the moment due to the morning mist but it's due to burn off later. Happy alpinism! 🤗🤗

Ailsa Crag, sounds like the name of a strict Scottish headmistress. Fairy Rock sounds rather softer. Very impressive the way it juts out vertically. Superb shot at 3:50. Any chance of a wild camp on there? Not unless you're the owner of a boat I guess. Could you see your house from the island? Colour of the water is stunning! Lovely spot
@IanTupmanOutdoors5 ай бұрын
Hi Matt. Yeah, I can just picture an Ailsa Crag 😁The island is an SSSI and a protected area. It's also an RSPB nature reserve. Under Scottish access law camping probably is OK but as you say, you'd need to arrange transport, take your own water and be sure of getting off again! My house will be in the shot at 4:01 somewhere near the horizon 🏠 Looking forward to your Cuba vlogs. Best wishes, Ian and Meg 🙋♂🐶

Caro Ian; sono felice di averti ritrovato dopo mesi che non ricevevo tue notifiche. Non so perché succede così.

Mia cara Claudia.
