The higher frame rates for the Aimcam should at least make it possible to apply decent digital stabilization in post. I'm sure it couldn't beat something like a GoPro, but having a POV that close to your actual line of sight is pretty cool!

Because of this, your TL/DR video, and our correspondence on other social media, I've been in touch with AimCam to work out ordering a “JED iTV Edition” for myself using your referral. 😄 Also, I noticed that you positioned the camera over your left eye. Do you shoot CAS with cross-dominance (right-handed for long guns, but left-eyed for the revolvers) and have placed the camera accordingly, or is that just the best way to capture all three types of firearms equally in your experience, or some other consideration? I am cross-dominant and have often needed to play around with finding an optimal first-person POV for my own videos, but am reassured by your setup and how well it shows off each segment of every stage.

Very interesting new product. While watching the first half, my thoughts were : If you could velcro the camera to the end of your nose, this would correct most of the problems you encountered. Then the second half did just that. I agree, if they could add image stabilization to their camera, it would come much closer to competing with gopro. Final thought : If one was shooting smokeless powder, could you purchase a Jedi special "smoky" lens?

It's been two years since this video. I still don't see the metal mounting brackets on their site. The only cameras they offer have 60ish degree views. So whatever setup you got they made specifically for you to show off their product. I'm not blaming you. I think the company knew you're promote their product so they catered to your requests. I would buy a pair of these since as you said they are the best option available, and probably still are 2 years later.

I enjoyed watching your review, but I have a 17 year old son that loved seeing the quick shot of your MR2 toward the end of the video. He and 4 of his friends all bought MR2’s this last year and our house has become the MR2 headquarters for their “work on cars“ weekends. Have you done a video on your MR2?

I can confirm the points you made. Had the Pro 3K glasses in an IPSC match today and the narrow cameraview is not so good. I set it up in a normal shooting stance with my head leaned slightly forward which is just the way I normally shoot. But what happened when I shot at a target looking down with my eyes was that I got no video of the gun, it was to high. Same way when I was using the timer on another shooter because my head was straight up like when talking to people and the result was that the capture was to high to be useful. I need to change the camera angle each time I change between shooting and being range officer. I can't see a solution to this.

The wider-angle lens attached to the Pro 2K model is how I solved it. I’ve been super impressed with that set-up. Both shooting and running the timer. If you wanna see some of the uses I’m getting out of that set-up from AimCam check out my latest series from the WA State Championship match. I mix in footage of me shooting with other cameras, as well as on the last episode watching another shooter from the sideline to get a different angle on his shooting… anyways, all of the sound from those episodes (with the exception of narration and stage instructions) come straight from the AimCams. If you’re looking for some good shooting glasses contact them and ask for the “JED iTV set-up”. I’ve been pretty darn happy with mine. ~Jed 🤠

The camera quality in these videos are pretty good. I have the 2i and it's no where near the quality in your videos. Maybe it's because it's always very sunny where I shoot.

I have been using pro2 i for CAS for 2 years and have been able to get a wider view by playing with the camera placement. Sight picture is a compromise between long gun and pistol, but it is close. Works better for me than hat mounted GO Pro with better sound at the expense of video quality. Is the metal mount available or did they custom make? The plastic mount is not ideal, had a lot of footage unusable because the camera moved. You can check out my experience with them on KZbin at Lee Cowboy Action. Does the 2i originally have the 90 degree wide angle lens like yours? On the aimcam website, it stated the 2i has 62 degrees field of view and the 3k is 70 degrees. Wondering how you got the 90 degree lens.

Apparently I misspoke. I just double checked and I don’t think I have a 90 degree field of vision camera. When I originally ordered the 3K I didn’t like the FOV it gave me, it was far too narrow. So I asked them for more, I think what I wanted was 90 and probably ended up with the 70 degree FOV. Best thing I can suggest for you to do is contact them and ask for the widest angle they can currently do, that’s what I did. For some reason, I don’t recall now, they were only able to do it on the 2i frame. That too may have changed. Hope that info helps… -Jed

I would be interested in these if they could do the prescription inserts in higher prescriptions. But since the most they can do is +/- 4 diopter and my left eye needs -5.75 they’re kind of a non-starter. I’m very right eye dominant and my right eye only needs -3.75 so I might be tempted to just get the right lens in my correct prescription and the left “the best they can” at -4 but while I could shoot I suspect I’d get a headache in short order, or perhaps have issues moving around. Since the prescription lenses are understandably non-refundable l’ll just keep an eye out for updates to higher available prescriptions.

Wow! I love companies with customer service like that. I agree, the first version had too much of your hat in it. The second version is way better but yea, angle could be a shade wider but once you settle the angle I think you’ll get loads of usable footage. Shaky cam is what they use in tense action scenes so you can just pawn that off as movie magic and add dramatic music for effect lol. Seems like an awesome addition to the Jedi filming arsenal. I dig em. And you know me, they had me at colored lenses lol. Great review!

There customer service is the reason the video got as far as it did. When I wasn’t happy with the product there was no finger pointing or “have you tried this or that to get it to work” it was just. “You can return it OR we can fix you up with this custom set-up” AND save me some money doing it. And he was clear that if that did not work I could still get the refund. I mean, he wanted to make me happy. I felt comfortable working with him and he proved to be a man of his word willing to stand behind his product. That goes a LONG way in my book. ~Jed 🤠

They have not increased the FOV. They are working on it, but the prototype they sent me didn’t work well in the bright light (somethin’ to do with the exposure settings). Having said that, ALL of the first person shooting perspective you see on the channel since this video was made is done with these exact AimCams. If you are interested in a pair like these (with the 75 degree FOV, instead of the standard 60 degree) then just contact AimCam and order the “Jedi AimCam Specials” and they’ll know exactly what your talking about.

YES! (And why didn’t I think of adding that to The Good in my review 🤦‍♂️ It just wouldn’t be JEDiTV if I didn’t forget something 😉). The audio is excellent. And it was picking it up from so close to my face I could have narrated through the stage... instead I just kept “sniffing” (it was VERY cold that day and my nose was running. I kept sniffing through the stages...). I like the iVUES too... but again, they are not certified ANSI rated lenses so I won’t shoot with ‘em on. They’re okay for Roller Coasters and playing Nerf and such but not for live fire. ~Jed 🤠

@@JEDiTV I have a Go pro but never use it because the sound is crap. All shots sound like "puck" no mater what gun or powder. I'll often use multiple cameras on tripods but use the iVUE sound as master sound track. I have a BOYA shotgun microphone with "dead cat" that works well in moderate wind. I use it with an old Samsung galaxy phone they were going to only give me $10 on trade. Works great.
