My bad I just watched the full video and they basically explained it at the start 😭 The thing I like about the just the two of us chords is that it are basically 2 chords. The I and the iii. What they do in the song is basically putting ii and V’s infront of the chords what makes it sound like this (haven’t watched the full video yet so idk if they explained this)

As a piano teacher, do you know the name of the progression? 6-5-1 and then a minor 2-5 turn around is pretty ubiquitous in the R+B/ blues world of music, so I assume there's a name for it. I jut can't find it.

I love the idea of using quartal harmony to give the extended chords with a lot of different notes more room to breathe. This gives one a great incentive to get those fingers nice and nimble to make those stretches happen.

Maestro, You with great detail , illustrate; no debate! 3:16 3 & 7 ( start: Db maj7 ) Grandmamma's ring sings with your generosity-creative methodology! Listening to the harmonies with or without the bass makes my ❤hum! 14:23 : This break down is so ear hear and essential! 15:49 : inversion! 17:00 : Bring on the phat chords! The bassist and soloist, in the house! Stacking those chords, perfect 4ths, warmly supports and delights live reciprocity! The F min 11 chord makes toes curl! 😎 Am so grateful that you exist and provide such remarkable talent, teaching ,and virtuosity! Thank you, Ms. Aimee Nolte, Respectfully.

You are a better teacher than you realize and a better singer as well. Very easy and effective way to teach, bordering on zen simplicity found in martial arts training. Here is what you need to know, when you need to know….to keep you coming back, so I can teach you more, without getting overwhelmed and walking away. I use what I learned through martial arts, to teach music….and strangely enough, you do as well. You are very skilled, in many areas…and I’m learning many things from you…including music..lol

Hi Aimee. Please comment my opinion. With 5 flats (Key of Db) in the beginning, the chord progression will be.........| I - VII7 | iii - biiim7/bVI7 | I - VII7 | iii | which I consider wrong. With 4 flats (Key of Ab) the chord progression will be .......... | IV - III7 | vi - Vm7/I7 | IV - III7 | vi | which I consider well. Don't you think so ??? A big kiss for you. Best regards, José

at @1:06 i'm hearing a high Bb on the Ebmi9 chord, but i don't see your hands playing it nor is it on the sheet music. Trying to figure out if i'm crazy or if your piano is adding extensions, or you maybe overdubbed the video with an different recording of you playing. Either way a great lesson and I appreciate it! Progression is used in so much stuff I want to get these changes down.

edit: just realized you explain that it's a different inversion at 9:40, which has the Bb in it, so you must have used audio from a different take. thankfully im not crazy and if anyone else sees this know that they aren't hearing things either! :)

That’s so funny. I think it’s probably just your ears playing tricks on you or an over toned coming from the piano. I didn’t use any different audio. Sorry it’s driving you nuts but I don’t think there’s a good explanation. Lol.

So wild! I'm sitting here alternating between 1:06 and 9:40 and they sound almost the same to me, both with the Bb ringing. I must be sensitive to some overtone or something in that chord, if anyone else hears this let me know 🥺, @@AimeeNolte
