I felt like having a bit of fun for this video, so I decided to play a couple of tanks that don't require a ton of aiming to do well in. The Centurion AVRE and FV4005 have the largest caliber guns in the War Thunder, and fire huge high explosive squash head (HESH) rounds. This means that you don't really have to aim all that much. I do wish that the HESH rounds were a bit more consistent, but that has more to do with volumetric than anything else. Hopefully Gaijin fixes that soon.

Jokes aside, just imagine for a second that it's NOT an assault gun(which it isn't), but instead SPG like Paladin or MSTA. Are those smaller and better armored? No, it's not solely a tank destroyer either. That role was supposed to be filled by several vehicles from other niches capable of filling this role. For example Conqueror was heavy tank designed to counter soviet armor. Was it a tank hunter?

The FV4005 might not be particularly hard to hit with, but considering the "12 round" capacity and "entirety of the round" reload speed, I feel like taking some time to ensure you don't miss is pretty important

The AVRE is the single best premium I have bought in the game regardless of tier. The amount of fun I have had in it warms my soul. It is also great for grinding out the British tech tree up until its rank. Advice: It is a close-range brawler, if you get the first shot off you will win the fight. Try to engage in 1v1 fights only, and hide when you need to reload.

The dozer blades in this game are mostly for aesthestics. All you have to do is either ram the building head on or press A or D to turn into it (basically just position yourself parallel to a house and turn your front into the wall. Chances are it'll do some funky shit and its gonna crumbled apart)

A rare treat to see Spookston play the Brits, even if it's only the meme vehicles! AVRE is definitely worth it when on sale. Btw the Tortoise could be a good idea for a video (6.7 Britain same as the FV4005) it's one of my favs and basically a meme with its great armour and decent gun, plus it just looks hilarious trundling across the battlefield.

6.7 Britain is so meme-y lol. I don't play it super often, as I'm trying to finish grinding out the monster of tanks at 8.0 and 8.3, but having the doom barn, armor wall, and Battlebus with an ATGM is pretty fun

If you don't want to aim, I recommend playing the FV4004 *Conway* which is very much a railgun at it's BR. You can also use it in the same lineup as the FV4005 and the AVRE, so that's a plus. And while the APDS might be offputting, the sheer size and velocity of the round combined with a surprisingly survivable front-mounted turret means you more than not get one-shots off quite easily.

Conway is definitely underrated. The gun has crazy pen and the front of the turret has troll-y armour which people usually don't know how to penetrate.

@@chanchito4401 Most assume the turret armour is as thin as that of the FV4005 and go close to the breech, but that armour is more than 140/270mm thick, and is enough for you to usually get a shot off before the enemy can adjust. The fact that the turret can spin a full +/-180 is also great because it makes the Conway more flexible compared to its later brother.

The entirety of my time in War Thunder, after having picked the UK tree on a whim, was spent in pursuit of the FV4005, which among my friend group had been dubbed the "Long Boi". Once I unlocked it I put the game down and haven't touched it since.

@@Erenzilable it is, yeah. It's a shame, I think WT is so close to being a fantastic game in so many ways, but the awful progression ruins it. I always recommend people play a tree until the grind starts to make it unfun, then switch to a new tree. Early tiers are honestly the most fun a lot of the time anyway. Here's some advice: if you haven't, try playing with the Crusader III. Absolutely the most fun I've had in this game- fast as hell, maneuverable enough to drift like a rally car, and it gets FIFTY smoke grenades for some reason.

The only bad thing about these vehicles: it has made people think that HESH shells are valid anti-tank rounds even for modern use, when they are absolutely NOT. It's like really really shitty HEAT as computer models repeatedly show, and it's just barely more effective than plain HE shells. These HESH shells don't work because they're HESH, they work because it's a bomb the size of a small child. APFSDS and modern HEAT are immensely better in every way, just keep that in mind about reality.

Um no, the brits do not think hesh is valid anti-tank for modern use. They use it for anti-structure work, and light vehicles. And they haven't considered hesh an effective anti-tank round since atleast the fmbt project (which the British half chose the rifled gun because of apds being more reliable and accurate at the time than apfsds) hesh slinging was just a useful side effect. Ofcaurse fmbt failed, and new generation apfsds was proven better than new generation apds. the British still ended up with rifled guns because it was cheaper to just get apfsds ammunition. For the l11 than get a new gun And ammo. Hesh was just a useful side affect once again (for structures). The challenger 2 got a l30 rifles gun because of plans for keeping upgraded challaneger 1s and chieftains in service with the l30 due to cold War needs. And these tanks needed multiparty ammunition and multi-part rifled guns ahd already been half developed earlier for another project. When the cold War ended and this plan was obsolete they had already spent the money/etc. Hesh was just a happy side effect. The Americans still love useing hep/hesh on their 105mm guns. Like in the stryker and probably in their new mpf.

HESH is not trying to be an anti tank round, it may have been part of the original plan but times change, the strengths of HESH show when its used against buildings, light/logistics vehicles, personel or IFV/APCs. It is basically a superior HE round for most purposes and is used as such in modern combat. For example if you had a 120mm L44 cannon firing APFSDS at a BMP 2 you have a somewhat unlikely chance (within context) of hitting something important inside due to the lack of armour to create spalling, the penetrator being completely inert plus it being a sub-calibre round. Whereas if you shot a 120mm HE or HESH round from the same gun, at the same BMP 2 you are almost certainly going to either make the vehicle completely combat ineffective or at the very least cause significant structural damage, more than an APFSDS or HEAT round (against that specific type of threat). One thing I will say is that I completely agree that HESH has minimal effect against modern tanks, at least frontally and 99% of the time it would be better to use APFSDS or HEAT although HESH would still happily destroy optics and damage engines/tracks or anything else external

So I commented basically this same thing on the last video too, but if you enjoyed these things, you’ll probably enjoy the Lorraine 155. It’s gotten really quite fun with the addition of overpressure. The 20mm on top can be used as a sort of ranging gun if you have a binding set up for controlling individual machine guns, though it’s a bit of a lengthy process; you swap to MG control, range dial and fire the 20 until your shots are on target, note the range that it’s set to, then switch back to the howitzer and set its range to whatever the 20 was at.

I saw that *EXACT* FV4005 paint job today playing War Thunder in my own FV4005. I did not see much of what they did in the match, due to getting eliminated early by a Hellcat.

Are there sights for other tanks like the one with the short howitzer tank? Like depends on how big you see the enemy tank,you just make it fit on the sights and shoot
