The battery bit alone is wild to me. It's like they're using a emitter designed 15 years ago. It's not as bright as $150 sigs/holosuns, and yet has worse battery life despite having the mother of all notch filters. I got 4 months out of mine (rmr type 1 bat life) , because I had to leave mine of the brightest setting. I'm like 67.8% sure that they made a budget T2, and no one could tell the difference between it and a T2. So they intentionally changed/neutered this thing as to not cannibalize the fuck out their T2 sales.

People will overlook everything bad about this optic and buy it because it says Aimpoint on the side. The Holosun HS515GM is a great choice and feature rich. I own one and like it. Sig Romeo 4T Pro line would be a step up. I think better than a T2 also. Aimpoint is like Glock. They can throw dog shit out there with their name on the side of it and it will sell.

@@DownRange556 met a guy who had a duty rds, it looked worse than my 515 tint wise looked honestly worse under nv from what I recall, so I think TREX is probably the only reason anyone owns these. The AEMS in this price range is the no brainer, the 4xt/4t pro above those.

@@CatholicKit I have to agree. I own an ARMS as well and it’s a great optic. Love the window size and it’s built like a square box tank. My 5161GM I feel the same way. I also really love my Meprolight RDS Pro v2 but the battery life does suck. The UH1 is great too and I like the Eotech 512. It’s hard to beat Holosun with their battery life.

You should test the Sig Romeo 5 (red dot).... I'm still waiting to find something to hate about it. 60,000 hour battery life and after 3 years (same batery) rain, snow, sleat, baking in the car on sumer days, dropped 2 or 3 times.... for $125 it's great!!

My battery has died twice in the last year that i've owned it. First time i thought maybe i left it on a high setting. I made sure it was on 4 last time i replaced it and last week when i took it out it was dead again. I didn't know this was a common thing. Also i forgot the fuckin tool to sight it in my first range trip with it, i was pissed. I thought i was going to love this but honestly i am much happier with my Holosun. Great review

I bought into the hype and picked up an Aimpoint Duty when they were released. I don't leave my optics on when the rifle is stored in the safe. So, my Duty spent 95% of its first year of ownership turned off. Picked it up about a month ago to go to the range. Dead battery. I'm guessing the battery life on mine was maybe 100 or less hours.

I had never understand the batteries lasting a whole year. That's a whole new concept to me. Really my batteries only lasts 3-4 months top before I swap it out because it's always on a brightness that won't get washed out by my 100000 candela light;

Very difficult to justify the asking price of the Duty RDS (or even a T2) when the Sig Romeo 4T PRO / 4XT PRO exist now. The buttons on the 4T PRO are fine. About the only annoying thing about it is that the brightness jumps to the highest visible setting when you switch from the NV setting to daylight.

Only one cap comes with the adjuster prongs on the t2. Its unfortunate but that’s how all of mine have come. I still love the optics though, you can get the aftermarket caps that can be adjusted externally with a flat head. I have them on one of my rifles but I am not crazy about them. Cheers

At the end of the day, it’s like everything else; you get what you pay for. I understand a lot of people don’t have $900+ to drop on a T2 but in the long run, it’s worth it. Save up the money and just buy the best option available. If not, stick to the nearest best thing to a T2: The Holosun HS403R.

Holosun 515 is another good T2 alternative. I believe you did a review on that one at one point as well. Same issue with the body being a little taller than the t2 though. Have to use true cowitness mounts for lower 1/3 height, and lower 1/3 mounts bring you to something like 1.7”

I think Aimpoint got it right in that they’re banking on the fact this optic isn’t going to be a “constant on” setup for the consumer (mostly police departments). When you factor in that most PD’s are using either the Eotech 512 or the Aimpoint Pro, and are leaving neither on when in the gun rack, battery life really isn’t much of a concern. Still, I feel like this optic, given it’s designed after the T2 & its older bro the PRO has a 3 year battery life, should have a minimum battery life of 1 year.

Honestly really disappointing to hear about the battery life on this. I was looking at picking one of these up due to the "aimpoint reliability" being a big seller on this vs a holosun or some other optic. Hearing about the atrocious battery performance is kind of a killer for me personally. Sucks.
