I hate to say it but it's not limited to schools. It can also happen in the work place especially when it's Christmas time.

growing up in the Philippines, we had yearly Choral Singing Contest, everyone with no exception participates, each section compete, there was a yearly theme examples: OPM, Christmas, Abba, Apo Hiking, Movie Theme Songs, English, of course, we have dancing competition,: ballroom, folk dance, modern, there was cheering competition, (everyone is required to participate as well), oratorical contest, singing contest, beauty contest, we also have United Nations Day, parade of nations, representatives wear national costume of assigned country, this was fun! I was suprised to learn that all these were not a norm in other schools and other countries.

I remember when I was in 1st grade. Our morning exercise after flag ceremony is dancing to Back Street Boys and NSYNC. So yes, dancing is mandatory in Philippines school experience. 😅
@gemini782011 сағат бұрын
when I was in elementary school we have a dance routine before every starts of every class subject to lossen everybody up and laugh and sweating 😂. So if we have like 5 subjects on that day we had 5 dance routines. It gave us feel good spirit and helped us to be active during class discussion.
@vanteestelle672710 сағат бұрын
During 7th grade we literally have a subject called MAPEH (Music, Arts, PE and Health), and yes we take PE classes so seriously from elementary to college (we have to learn different dances and perform during our PE classes)

I can assure you that this kids are having fun, the influence of the teacher is a plus point here and this kids for sure will have a memorable experience that they will treasure.

I remember during our elementary days here in the Philippines during our town fiesta there is a folk dance competition for all the elementary schools and my school always won the competition.

And there are level ups of this where instead of just one class, all the classes at that grade level will perform in the grounds (football field). I think we called them grounds demonstration. Each grade level competes with each other. Imagine hundreds and in some schools thousands dancing and singing together to a choreography. There is just so many practices in the Philippines that encourages (actually compelled) singing and dancing. And that is part of how you end up with concert crowds on pitch, on rhytmn and even prison yard choreographed dancing that is actually quite excellent.

I used to be an English, Math and Science teacher in the Philippines. And for my motivation/ice breaker/starter/energizer, I used popular song to change its lyrics related to topic/lesson. It was fun to watch kids participating -singing/dancing. It's not every day that I would do this, but one thing is for sure that this kind of strategy will help the students remember the lessons. :-)

I went to a high school in the philippines where you can take a major in dancing or any form of arts, this stuff is pretty common and is pretty normalized. I only realized that it wasn’t normal when I moved here to canada😃
@eldyvalmoria62002 сағат бұрын
At schools, we're taught to sing and dance. At home, we're enourage to sing and dance by our family. At work, we are obliged to perform singing and dancing. And all ocations, at church, birthdays to funerals. Even on days doing nothing, we sing or dance. I realized that it's not common in other conutries when I worked overseas.
@Rouge_Ice8 сағат бұрын
And that is why filipinos are good performers. Coz we all learn it in some way, may it be in school or at home. We are exposed to the performing arts. 😆 Then it carries over to our adult lives coz we are also expected to know how to perform during corporate events and parties. Heck, even team building events will have some sort of performance battle.😁

Schools in the Philippines have Foundation Days. All grades perform en masse, I remember doing baton twirling, folk dance and modern dance. That's every year. And of course there's singing contests especially during Linggo ng Wika where Tagalog songs reign supreme. PE in elementary includes learning folk dances. In college there's also dancing for PE. I used to think that it's normal all over the world, but I guess it isn't.

I come from a family of teachers, 5/6 of my maternal aunts are educators, and I know that pinoy teachers will do their utmost to get the lessons more enjoyable for students. One way to get them enthusiastic about school and get them in their best mindset to learn is to hype them with a bit of dancing and singing.
@positivebreadtv6235Сағат бұрын
I remember when I was young, I love singing coz everyone in my family sings. But they don't point out that I'm out of tune (which I was). It was only until I was in elementary that someone pointed that out AFTER I joined a singing contest. LOL! But that didn't discourage me coz nobody here ever discourages anyone from singing. Instead, I joined a school choir. That's how I learned how to sing properly. Free training!!! 😆 I was a member until college and eventually I got good at it.

Not only in schools that people dance. We have also dancing prisoners found in Cebu which is part of their rehabilitation program. As a matter of fact, Michael Jackson have seen their video dancing to the music of Thriller and loved it. When Michael passed away, his long time choreographer and dancer remembered how Michael loved it so they went to the Philippines and performed with them. The choreographer was even interviewed in CNN about it. Here's their performance of They Don't Care About Us. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3zXlYeAhcR6i6s
