How to clear Lexus/Toyota VSC and VSC OFF warning lights (yaw and deceleration recalibration)

NOT ALL HERO WEAR CAPES !! Redone entire front ss on 2002 gs300 and shop told me brake booster or abs control module was bad !! (i had no problems prior just replacing old parts) so i tried this and you saved me a trip down the rabbit hole. many thanks

Thanks mate! Worked like knife through butter! Although for all others asking about the VSC light not starting to flash with the ABS, dont worry about that, just give it about 2 minutes, than turn the ignition off, even though it didn't start to flash, and continue with the steps in the video. Worked for me :)

Well thenak you so much. I had a gearbox error code diagnosed, got my GS300 back and the vsc off light was on. This fix worked and cost me 1 paper clip. At Lexus in Den Haag I would have had to pay about €150. I was very sceptical on first viewing: completely misplaced. Once again, thanks!

No worries. It should be doable with the OBD port as well (after all that's how Techstream buggers it up) but the under-bonnet port is easier to work with.

You helped me fix my US spec 02 GS430. The jumper didn’t work for my VSC, but I was able to do it in Techstream and I wouldn’t have tried if I hadn’t seen this.

Disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds and then connecting it again did it for me. I suggest you try that first since it is much easier option. If that doesn't work, try this video suggestion.

@@ryanduderty3963 If you disconnect the battery you'll find that the car will turn over, but not start. To fix this, leave the key turned in the ignition (so the car is powered-up but not started) for six minutes, then try starting it.

I just bought a used ‘1998 GS400 with the VSC light and VSC OFF light on. I tried your method but after step one, the VSC and ABS light continue to flash forever. I’m guessing there’s something mechanically wrong with it. Before I take it into a mechanic, do you recommend what I should look at?

Any other issues? Some engine fault codes (e.g. misfires) will also trigger VSC and VSC OFF.

Hello! I've got engine light on as well. Had engine light at first, cleared a speed sensor fault and after vsc and traction off lights came on along with check engine. Car is a toyota aristo jzs 161

If you've got certain faults such as cylinder misfires causing a check engine light then the VSC lights will come along for the ride, and they're not just for show as the VSC will have shut itself off. Fix the engine faults and clear the codes and the VSC warning will go away. Don't go troubleshooting your VSC system as it'll be a red herring.

@@dracula0137 use an OBD reader (any cheap one ought to do it) and check for any fault codes. My money's on misfire, but we'll see...

Check for fault codes. A cylinder misfire will give a check-engine light but also throw the VSC and VSC off lights in for good measure.

Is the car on a level surface? Do the lights come straight on or is it only after you start pulling away? If it's the latter then I suspect the second half of the procedure isn't going properly.

Hello there! I had a big problem a week ago when I changed the left door ECU from a LHD LECUS GS430 and…boom! No key working, the wheel drive does not come out when you put the key in and MUCH more things wrong. I checked and I change one fuse that went out because of the ecu change and I also changed the ecu for the original one that I was using before the change. That fuse was the ecu ignition one and of course I replace it. But Still with the problems and no lights on the wheel drive and can’t control the radio from the wheel drive and still can’t open or close the car with the key, etc. Do you recommend me anything to solve all these troubles?? I used to have that when my car had a misfire. Misfires were one fault where the car would throw its toys out of the pram and deactivate VSC. Clear the engine fault code using a cheap OBD tool and the VSC light will clear along with it.

If I recall correctly, in my case it happened when I allowed Techstream to detect the car automatically, instead of me actually picking it. Something during the interrogation told the car to clear the sensor settings. First time it happened was at a garage, where a scan tool was used to clear repaired fault codes and also appeared to be a bit "overzealous" in its clearing.

At very, very low speeds the needle might not shift, notice how close the 10mph marker is to zero compared to the others. I couldn't go too fast round there or I'd have Frank Drebined the wheelie bins.

Are you recalibrating on a level surface? A hill will be no good. Road camber will be no good. I had to do it at the back of the office because the paving is flat there.
