We hear "It's coming soon!" every year for almost a decade (!), just to see Textron bring to market a competitor for the Agusta Westland AW139, 169, and 189 (the 525 is not greatly superior in anything; only more expensive). Fifteen years ago, Textron helped Agusta develop the AW139 in a joint development project, so it's almost competing against its own design, 15 years later. It's going to be tough.

Based on this short video, and the corporate shill stating "this is an all new aircraft", or words to that effect, this appears to be a wonderfully designed helicopter. While it certainly appears like a larger 222 variant, we can suspect it's an entirely new aircraft under the skin... aside from it's expanded size and obvious similarity to the old 222. Max range: 580 miles. Velocity Not To Exceed: 190 mph Cruise Speed: 178 mph. I don't know the asking price, and I expect it will be "overly-ambitious"... but didn't care enough to investigate.
@msengineeringdavid31482 жыл бұрын

Nice aircraft. But far too late to market. Airbus and Leonardo have the market pretty much to themselves in this class.
@supercat3804 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely correct! The Leonardo AW139 has taken the lead with substantial orders worldeide. Bell was very late in the helicopter innovation and design field, and they were left far behind. Sad to note that the AW139 was initially a Bell design with Agusta as sub-contractor. Bell sold their shares to Agusta after deciding that the 139 had no prospects for good sales. Bad management decisions by Bell rendered this great company as a lower contender in the helicopter sales field
@gjrip4 жыл бұрын
@@supercat380 false! The AW139 was jointly designed by Agusta and Bell. Agusta came up with the original idea to replace the Huey family because they were building licensed Hueys. The AW139 was designed under a joint company called Bell/Agusta Aerospace Company. Yes Bell squandered their entire association to the project, but it's 100% false to say it was a Bell design with Agusta as a primary contractor. Don't spread misinformation.

nah i don't think so. Just wait and see. Lots of operators just don't want those helis but are waiting for a Bell.
@supercat3804 жыл бұрын
@@jahnkaplank8626I'm inclined to agree with you. Bell has an excellent reputation as regards product technical and logistics support. Leonardo has a rather negative feedback as regards the same field. I'm supporting Bell all the way!!

@@supercat380 Mr. Supercat you are dead wrong yet again. Leonardo just beat Bell two years straight in Customer Support in Professional Pilot Magazine's Helicopter Owners Survey. This year Leonardo scored the highest overall score of any turbine helicopter manufacturer in the history of the survey. Seems like your facts are quite outdated my friend.

Nice helicopter. In this video, I would have expected at least one mention about the fatal accident of the 525 relentless prototype during 2016 testing which delayed development.

We have mentioned the crash in one of our previous 525 videos, but this video is meant to be an explanation of where the program is now and where it's going. Thanks for watching!
@shadowmist12464 жыл бұрын
@@AINvideo Yes you have, but to your point, the reasons the program is where it is at now is in large part to the incident. But still a great video keeping us up to date with the program. Keep up the great work.
@felixcat93184 жыл бұрын
Having read the Official Report into that incident, it was not the fault of Bell Designers, Engineers or Pilots, and consequently has no place in this video. Test flying takes place specifically to discover if unknown factors like the one that caused the accident may exist. Once discovered and identified the issue is resolved and further testing takes place. Unfortunately, that particular issue had a catastrophic effect before control could be re-established.
@shadowmist12464 жыл бұрын
@@felixcat9318 Neither AIN nor I made any judgement or suggestion regarding the cause of the accident. I suggested that the incident (regardless of cause) did affect where the program is which would be hard to dispute by anyone. Any jet or heli program would be affected. AIN had a different opinion about whether or not to include it in this particular video (they brought up on a previous one) and that is fine too.
@jahnkaplank86264 жыл бұрын
why mention it in a sales video? Everybody knows about it, just like everybody knows that development states are dangerous and it's exactly where you want crashes to happen; not after sales!

@antonnurwald57003 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? Police, yes. But I'd suspect that a military helicopter design has to be more tailored to the military's needs, simply in terms of how robust it is, how much beating it can take. Maybe it will turn into one over time. It took some time for the EC145 to morph into a light utility helicopter. But I'm no expert.

Take all the small screens and touch screen controls and replace them with LARGE LED lights and physical buttons... To show LARGE numbers. THEN place them ON THE CEALING... So the pilot can LOOK OUT THE FRONT WINDOW... You dont need that much information and if you do it can also be where the sunscreen is in a normal car... Why make all your controls electronic! Mechanical works fine and power steering is all you need. In case all electronics fail you could still land. It DOES NOT look like this aircraft will function in case of electronical failure.. Helicopters are simple and elegant machines, you seem to have made it indefinitly complex... And then say ow THE COMPUTER will fix that.. Nobody needs more tech or electronics then the bare basics, if you want to make a better helicopter then: Make it lighter Make it more silent, Make it as see trough as you can, lots of glass... And make it cheaper to fly, more fuel effecient.. And for these oil guys,, goddamn make a good escape hatch.. I dont see how a machine not much bigger then a volkswagen transporter should cost half a million$ when I can buy a smaller chopper for as little as 40.000.
