Have you made any of these AIP mistakes before? If so, what helped you?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroiditis 3 yrs ago and put on meds with very little understanding from the Dr how to manage this disease. It's wasn't until I came across your channel and Michele Spring's channel that convinced me to look a little deeper. Once I started the medicine, I started to feel even more run down and exhausted, going on very little sleep, depressed, stressed from my job and the loss of 3 family members within 9 months. Loosing weight was hard, even though I'd lost 40 lbs with a struggle and no moral support from family. And with that said, tired of being tired, I've consulted with my Dr for a dietician's help. My journey has begun.

Wow! This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and I’m definitely a new subscriber. It’s hard for all of us. I have been doing strict AIP for 2 months now and new to the Reintro phase with my fundamental medicine person. I can tell you that this video is so helpful!! He’s great and all but this is also a nice warm dose of learning self-compassion. I thought I had been doing strict AIP and learned that 2 products I was occasionally intaking were not 100% compliant (like my dandelion root called Dandy Blend had barley in it that I never noticed and would have on occasion). I was distraught. My type A personality led to me feel like a failure, right around the time of my failed first reintro which was egg. Picking myself up and had my partner tell me to be nice to myself as I continue. He reminded me of amazing I’ve done and how I should feel proud. But like most of us, it’s different hearing it from our loved ones than from someone whose gone through this and experienced this, as you have! Coming from a traditional Latino background where we have been staying with my parents during our move back to CO, I’ve had to learn to watch them all my family eat all of the foods I used to enjoy every day on a daily basis, balance the food prep and cooking with my law school admissions test studying, and focusing on taking care of myself. I feel grateful that I have great emotional support from my partner and my parents. It means a lot you doing this!! I’m approaching 1 month before my exam and trying to find ways to reduce stress without punishing myself. Thank you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You're welcome Michelle! ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing your story, for your kind words and support, and for your transparency! It's so awesome to hear your experience, and how you are working through AIP setbacks. We all have AIP setbacks, and there's a way through them and in my opinion, self-love and self-compassion are key. You've made such incredible strides! It's so hard to eat AIP when everyone around you is eating your old favorite foods - I feel you! But nothing tastes as good as healthy feels and it's always worth it. Thank you again for sharing! Would love for you to keep me posted on your journey ❤️❤️❤️. I am cheering you on!

I jumped right in but I have celiac disease so I was already gluten free, caffeine sensitive, and intolerant to nightshades. I’m use to restrictive diets. It’s hard not having nuts, seeds, pea protein, or chickpeas but cutting out these foods are making me feel better. I need to work more on the stress aspect. It’s my senior year in college and all my classes are high stress and high stakes.

Thank you for sharing Brianna! So glad you are seeing improvements! Hopefully you'll be able to reintroduce nuts, seeds, etc soon ☺️. Congrats on being a senior this year and praying you can find some effective ways to manage the stress of it...it's a learning process for sure! Imagine if you weren't eating well, what the stress would be doing to your health and how you feel 😳

I just found your channel this weekend and am in love. I wanted to binge watch all the videos this weekend but alas, life. I was just recently told of all my food sensitivities (no autoimmune disorder...yet) but it hit me link a ton of bricks. I figured I would come back sensitive to gluten, but not dairy, eggs, quinoa, peas, navy beans and a few other beans, coconut, chicken and turkey! And we farm and raise almost all of our own food. My functional medicine doctor wants me to go scorched earth to get things under control, but it's hard when you are used to eating anything you want! Thankfully we grow a lot of different vegetables so I am really excited to start enjoying food again. Looking back, I now realize how stressful the last 7+ years have been and how much I have neglected my own health. While I thought I was eating healthy, in all reality, I was selling this wonderful nourishing food to my customers at the farmer's markets and not fulfilling my own needs.

I am still in the new phase of AIP - taste-testing! We haven’t been able to go whole hog yet due to some time and travel obligations. In the meantime, I’m making many recipes I have found and I am seeing what we like and what we don’t. I am discovering that there are many “favorites” already and those will be my “go-tos.” Thank you for pointing out the mistakes to look out for and reassuring me that we can always get back on track!

I find that my experience in the doctors’ offices to be one of my biggest stressors while I’m being screened. Some of the staff are insensitive and unwilling to listen so they make mistakes that are tough on me! I’m feeling terrible and my patience is thin! It’s good I can realize this is harming me and I need to try to manage it.

I'm still at the stage of feeling shocked and scared at having a new disease. I started AIP a week ago to get some control back, jumping right in. I still feel terrible but I guess I should be patient. Also so far I hadn't taken into account the Lifestyle changes, so thank you very much for that tip. It may be the key to the problem.

My heart is with you Caroline! It can be so important to allow ourselves the grace, compassion, and understanding to feel all the feels, then to find the courage to take our health into our own hands. Your courage and determination is inspiring and I believe in you! Lifestyle is often a game changer for many people!! Sending you lots of love and support and cheering you on!

If we are sautéing, how long is too long to cook the veggies?

Yes I'm new to aip and i feel that I'm eating through out the whole day. And it's coz I eat meat and veggies without rice or this stuff. So i really struggle with feeling ful. On the other hand cutting down the carbs from rice made me lose weight and this is the last thing I'm thinking about. So how to maintain it with gaining weight instead of losing weight. And another thing I'm struggling with is the portion of protein. I really don't know how to count it. Would you please enlighten me. Regards💐

I’m recently learning about importance of balance in eating omega 6 and omega 3. Most omega 3 is not allowed on AIP. I’m 60 days on AIP I eat a lot of chicken. It’s my main protein and I drink chicken bone broth as brunch and late night snack. Do you have any suggestions?

According to Sarah Ballantine, grass fed beef and wild caught seafood should be 75% of your diet with limited poultry. Maybe switching that up and eating more of those foods?

Hi Shanna. How long should the elimination phase last on AIP diet?
@ShannaNemrow
@ShannaNemrow 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Diane! It depends on the person. Generally speaking, the elimination phase lasts 30-90 days then a person starts the reintroduction phase. I was at my rock bottom when I started AIP so I was on the elimination phase for longer. I have articles on my website about each phase that you may find helpful: shannanemrow.com/autoimmuneprotocol

Thank you. I read alot about it and now that I am at the end of 90 days, I am really nervous to start reintroductions. I am happy for you that you are at this stage. Continue to do well on your journey.

Hi there! So Chlorella and spirulina are not included during the elimination phase, but each of us are different...so if you know for sure you do well with both of those, it's up to you if you'd like to keep those in. ;)
