I find it strange that the White House only has 1 sam launcher and I would have pulled all agents to get into the White House to avoid unnecessary casualties or risk. And a F22 is going a supersonic so if the base was maybe under 5 miles wouldn’t it be already right on top of the AC-130 like really quickly?

@@Jupiter.141 Kinda sorta. You see, they actually follow procedure (for the most part) in this scene. You first intercept the aircraft and establish communication with it. Yes, it could be an attack, but given that it was painted as a USAF C-130, it could equally be some idiot who forgot to make sure the transponder was on, and had a radio that konked out sometime after take-off. The part where they failed procedure was that the 'shoot' plane wasn't in position when the 'com' plane attempted to make contact, as a result, both aircraft got shot down, and teh FAC-130 was too low for Patriots to track, and in a location where any other missile may fall on innocents (as what happened when it *did* get shot down). Honestly, I'd say that this wasn't a situation of incompetence, but complacence. The Raptors and Eagles at Andrews are likely scrambled dozens of times per month for airspace violations, usually by small planes that are lost, or by the occasional airliner that made a wrong turn somewhere (and now these days, because of drones), so it's likely that the two pilots in this thought "Oh joy, another idiot", and opted not to bother with the rule book.... and paid for it. The funny thing is, I prefer it when writers actually make the non-mains in action films competent and capable. It makes it far more believable when the bad guys do win despite casualties, and makes them appear far more of a threat to the protagonist.

@@Tank50us but the plane is incredibly close to downtown DC and various targets such as the White House and Pentagon. When the plane is that close, you're supposed to shoot it down, markings or not, because it's undeniably a threat. Also, the plane should've intercepted miles ago, and have provided the time for more jets to scramble to shoot it down. The only way I see this working out is if the air traffic controllers and the fighter jet pilots are in on it, because that's the only a way a plane could get that close to downtown DC

I watched the movie Air Force One, and the 2 F-15 were at the back of the hijacked AF1 which is the right position knowing fully well that it is an AC 130 Gunship with gatling guns on both sides.

Amazing how the Secret Service can't even get close to hitting the plane, but the bad guys can mow down everyone with the accuracy of a COD aimbot. Fun movie for mindless action but the more you watch it, the dumber it gets.

The goal of a mini-gun like that isn't to be accurate, it's to shoot enough bullets in the general direction of the enemy that you don't need to care about being accurate. Also, large crowds of civilians are much easier to hit than a plane flying at full speed and likely in evasive manoeuvres, because the target area is just larger

actually the white house have 4 air defense, 2x quad avenger 1, 1 phalanx and, 1- rim 116. but this is 2010 defense, I don't know the current air defense now.

Anyway the AC-130 is not correct. It has only one 30mm Gatlin gun and then one Bofors 40mm canon and a 120mm howitzer onboard and only on the right side of the plane. Needs a crew for ammunition and weapon operators for each gun. An AC-130 is never operating in this low air level. If you check real Gunship operations, you can see how far this beast can operate. They would get killed, before they can hear the shots. But... it's a movie😆

Why is the plane flying so low to the ground? First off all, those White House SAM turrets would probably be radar-guided, not heat-seeking, and an easy way of avoiding SAM missiles is to be far away, this time on the z-axis. Also, it would make shooting civilians a lot easier. A mini-gun doesn't just cover a few road lanes, it could cover an entire expressway. The only reason why I could think of flying low is to put civilians in the crossfire when the fighters scramble, but you can do that after you've gone high and completed your tasks. You can even sacrifice your added altitude for airspeed or other needed manoeuvres should the time come to need them.

@@feeblemonster8174 the problem is that the plane is still going to be detected once it enters the air defence zone and is attempting to disguise itself as simply a plane who got lost, which does happen from time to time. Flying that low with no explicit problems is going to be incredibly suspicious with the fighters and air traffic controllers that'll inevitable detect the plane. And besides, if you were flying legitimately, you could be discovered on radar and fly by with no problems

I know it's a movie but Secret Service is more organized than this. They never would have let this happen...of course it was an inside job so there wasn't much they could do. I've always wondered how actors and actresses film inside the white House. Is it like a replica on a set or what. I was really into this movie. But It reminded me of my combat deployment in 2011. My PTSD was activated during this movie. 😂

Here's a possibility: to my understanding, heat seekers have a narrow range of temperature that they target, if they targetted the hottest thing they would probably keep heading to the sun or a factory or something. Flares are such that they give off a temperature in that range to confuse the targeting system. Its always a meta chase of missiles having new ranges to ignore flares and flares having the right temperature for the current wave of missiles. So it could be that the flares were the "wrong" ones for that particular missile. Most likely the sequence was longer and was cut down: fighter plane fires one missile, gets caught by flares, fighter fires a second, transport doesn't have any more flares, boom.

Funny how wrong it is to CIWS ground civilians, when they are Americans, but not when they are Syrian civilians in a Medicins sans Frontieres hospital in Kunduz. The USAAF used a Hercules gunship in a 1 hour 30 minute attack on an undefended hospital, a hospital they knew was there, they had the GPS co-ordinates, yet still bombed, fired rockets and Gatling guns into a civilian hospital, killed surgeons, doctors, nurses, burned people alive in the ICU, and kept it up until ten minutes after being told to return to base. No one ever charged with war crimes, an exact copy of US justice as shown after the Cavalese cable car crash, where USAF aircraft went down a closed valley, too low, and at high speed, hitting a cable car, and murdering all 20 people on board, in Italy. The crew were immediately flown back to the US, never charged, except for destroying the in-cockpit tape recorders. The USA, land of the free, and murderers.
