Yes, the Hun was originally designed as a pure fighter, but it morphed into a FAST FAC platform, along with becoming a strike aircraft, a fast photo recon platform, as well as being the first Wild Weasel aircraft.

My dad was an engine mechanic on them. Did two tours in Vietnam. He loved working on it.

Same here, I remember when Discovery Channel used to broadcast a documentary series called Wings, and I used to tape every episode, along with Firepower, plus, back in the 90's History Channel used to air a series called Battle Stations narrated by either George C. Scott, or Gerald McRaney.

Thank you so much for this. I was 12 years old when this came out, never saw this particular one though. I was obsessed with fighter planes at this time and would have watched this doc over and over again on summer break like did with other military documentaries.

2:18 Korea in 1968? I don't think we were fighting in Korea in 1968. It was Vietnam. And the air war was mainly unopposed until 1972? Close to 2000 pilots lost....that didn't happen between 72 and 75. Who wrote this?

That VF-84 Tomcat was firing an AIM-9 Sidewinder, not an AIM-7 Sparrow. 'Winders, and the mordern "Slammer" are carried, and launched from rail style launchers. The old Sparrow is ejected from recesses on the bottom of the fuselage, or wing pylons.

That's what fighter pilots use when firing missiles. They use that phrase to let others know what kind of missile is coming of the rail, weather it's an WVR, BVR, or Anti Armor, or Anti Radiation type. An example, the radio brevity code for a short range air to air missile is "FOX-2".

I'm sorry, but the engine that powers the Hun is the Pratt & Whitney J57 series afterburning turbojet engine. There was no "J37" engine.

Now wait a doggone minute, that footage of a Hun taxing out for a strike mission is from the Vietnam War, not Korea, also, the designation of the Dinah recon aircraft is pronounced as "KI", not "Key, plus those Corsairs were escorting an F-5 Photo Lightning, and not the other way around where one P-38 is escorting Corsairs on a strike mission.

Those are not "M-82" 500lb bombs, instead, those are Mark-82 Low Drag General Puropse bombs, which were developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company.

A couple too may error in this doc. The most obvious one is mentioning live Snakeyes being loaded onto the F-111 at Red Flag, while they are obviously blue practise Snakeyes. And they don't even seem to be Snakeyes either, but the other kind of retarded low delivery Mk82s (chute compared to fins).
