Love the video and all your content but usually the biggest problem with a/c systems is a dirty condenser or evaporator, especially in farm and construction equipment

An excellent introduction to air conditioning basics. A note to Scott R -- good point, but I would add that if the clutch is bad, the compressor is not far behind (as a rule); so, for the truck Josh was repairing, entire component change-out was the proper cost effective measure for the truck owner, i.e. no sense having the owner return a few months or a year later to undergo the expensive troubleshooting, evacuation, vacuum, and recharge process all over again. Saves money in the long run. In another scenario such as owner's work, just replacing the clutch is the way to go.

+Chad Jessup Thanks Chad. Good point about the A/C compressor. I think most shops just swap the compressor now, kinda like they don't rebuild alternators anymore.

Hello- was just seeing if you ever did do a electrical AC troubleshooting video? Could sure use some help Thanks for all the great informative videos

Never use a vacuum to test for a leak you are pulling humid air into the system do a pressure hold test with dry nitrogen that’s the correct way to do it Not as big of a deal for you automotive guys but for residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration the windings of our compressor sit in the refrigerant and when moisture and the oil contact each other it becomes acidic and that’s why windings short you don’t want to draw moisture into your system.

Full of info... Not my issue I'm having though... My question is I have a fluctuation of pressure on my low side Wal-Mart guage which is cutting the freightliner compressor off and on... My assumption is the orphic tube is clogged... I'm heading to Florida this Monday and I do not have a vacuum pump ... Can I change the orphic tube and accumulator add refridgerante with out pulling a vacuum ....

I am pretty sure I have an electric problem. For some reason when I turn the dial to blow Max Air it does not blow any air but when I turn dial to off it blows for 10 seconds then dissipates. Basically I have to keep playing with the dials turning it on and off as well as the button for in cabin air circulation as well as the AC off button. Please help me with this problem. You said you can put paper clips in the connectors to see if the switches are bad I'm not understanding what that means and how to go about it. It would be much easier if I saw your directions visually

I have been searching for an answer on why my compressor is not compressing ,the system is fully charged, there is no leak , but when I turn on the a c the gauge is not moving and the compressor is not cycling and just continuously spinning. What part of the compressor is failing in this situation? No one seems to answer this question and know the answer.I don't want to replace the compressor if I don't know what causes of no compressions.

A lot easier to work on, the busses at my workplace have 1 huge condenser, 4 evaporators, the compressor is basically a motorcycle V4 and it uses about 28 lbs of refrigerant

What kinda bus are you working on that has a compressor that big

will it hurt my ac system if I add water bolt values to shut off the antifreeze to the system to make it blow colder. I have a kw 900L 05 model cat motor 475. or what would you suggest I do?

I have ac issues in my truck. Ac works and blows cold for 5-10 minutes. Then it just ceases to blow cold air. It just blows ambient air. You can switch system off for 10-20 minutes, turn it back on and the pattern repeats itself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as this one has stumped me.

If you have guages hook up and see what your high side reads if it's really high and the fan kicks on but doesn't bring the psi down check your condenser and use compressed air or a power washer to clean it out, should be good then.
