When your graver is so sharp that a touch to your thumbnail sticks rather than slides, it will glide through the metal with little pressure and be much faster to cut. The cut and sharpness to your graver is EVERYTHING to engraving.

Thanks for the video of your handpiece design. I saw other videos which required a lot more work to get the build done. Your design will get us going in a lot less time.

Here I am agin.. commented 10 months ago! looking over again, this is just great build, quicken dirty and looks rather nice in the end. You could spend a lot of time and several dollars making one. But all these parts are so easy to access its what I call, build it simple stupid! The fewer parts the less can go wrong. Yup, I was planning on using lamp parts as you can make look fancy and the threaded pipes look very appealing. After pricing brass parts I could get one at banggood for 27 45 bucks, much cheaper....... You are the man !!!!

Great straight forward design. I was going to spend lots of time building one, but I like the idea of just getting it dun! Don't see why this one cant be fine-tuned to work great.

12:36 piping is measured by nominal inside diameter, which varies from pipe to pipe based on material and schedule rating as the external dimensions do not vary to accommodate different wall thicknesses. Tubing is measured by it's outside diameter and is usually a little more precisely labeled as true to size.

A 3/8" dowel pin will not fit in a 1/4" nipple. I tried it- no go. Maybe Josh meant to say a 3/8" dowel pin in a 3/8" nipple with 1/4" by 3/8" compressor adapter. Also a roto zip graver holder isn't as long in the base as a grs graver holder. so the dowel pin will not hit it. it will bottom out by hitting the 1/4" compressor adaptor. Whatever the actual parts used, Josh's design works great in the video. Thanks for posting

to solve vice problem. I bolted a piece of 2 x 8 flat on the drill press table. counter sink nut holes so it is flush. then bolt a vice on the wood. it isn't perfect or precise but it is cheap and can be removed quickly to do other things. it sticks up a little high. the ideal method would be to bolt a piece of flat metal to the drill press table and them use it to give you the hole pattern converter you need . I did mine with the wood and it works for the stuff I do. just keep a level handy so you know you are boring true holes. good luck , thank a million for the cool build and sharing it with us. I want to do some engraving but my arthritis will not let me do much push style. I need the power bump to get things going. if you are interested comment me back and I will get you the plans of how I used a bowling ball to make a graving vice. all you need is a ball , some old skate bearings, and a bolt and a vice you like. later swg

a pelican in the desert but not lost wow cool vice Idea!!! 😉 I love re-purposing stuff like that to make what I need coz sometimes find the prices a little high for those starting out. I'm make rings and this sounds very like a tybe of ring vice too that spins used for setting stones and closing bezels. I'd love to find out how I could make one and see if it would be of use to me if u don't mind sharing your awesome idea

Very creative. I think if you wrap a rubber band figure 8 style around the tip you wouldn't need to use your finger for the return stroke

Hey buddy I heard that you said that a speed control is necessary to make it work, so it means that at full speed the graver did not work at all, because I am facing issue that my hammer didn't impact on the graver, although it kept rattling due to suction and compression. please let me know if you read this.

Not really able to make one.... but the GRS and Lindsey sets are way out of my range... would a well made medium priced ($350.) pneumatic with foot pedal and compressor get me going good... at least for awhile?

Need some advice. Followed the build with identical components and I’m not getting any impact force at the graver. I can see and hear the air moving the dowel pin but there just isn’t any impact or force pushing the graver along the metal. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and what they found to modify. Thanks love the idea a cost savings

Yes but I did a few things and don't know what it was, check your air seals on the pump, check the inner diameter of the air line and also check that your wight is moving freely without too much space in between.
